Eye of the Storm - Avoid flack fire...

When avoiding flack fire in eye of the storm.. is there any trick to it? or is it just random dodging trying to avoid the puffs?
Got through easy enough on Rookie, but ace I'm getting torn to shreds way to quick.

What I do is just bank my plane at about 85-90 degrees, pull back on the throttle and fly around in slow, tight circles until the guns stopped firing.

You don't need to fly through the flak yourself, it's timed and stops firing when the bombers pass a certain point, so if you just circle and wait it out, you can avoid the flak completely without taking any damage at all.
