F6F-3 "White 41" Tri Color VF-17.
F6F-5 "White 22" Overall Semi glossy sea blue VF-17.
VF-17 was one of the most successful units involved in the final carrier push into Japanese home waters in 1945, scoring 161 kills between February and May. Its weapon was the F6F-5 Hellcat (72 birds split between VF- and VBF-17), although a handfull of late-build -3's also saw service into the Okinawa campaign- indeed, 'White 41' was probably one of the last of its type in TF-58. Twelve pilots achieved ace status on this Deployment with VF-17 (The first being in F4U's), plus a furhter 8 aces with 'twin' unit VBF-17.
Blank and no marking for both -3 and -5
