It's been a busy week for me. Besides downloading the new game, Battlestations Pacific (looks like it's going to be loads of fun but, with quite a learning curve for me) and receiving my latest book delivery of "Halsey's Typhoon", I bought a new truck, a 2009 Ford Ranger (FX4 Off Road Edition). I'm posting a photo of my last Ranger along with the new one. Sorry, I couldn't get it with fore and aft tubes. No ordinance at all with this model. Can you believe that?!

My last Ranger (at my old home):

Now's the time to haggle prices with the dealers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Very Nice, Werner. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Just one question, what size deckgun did it come with? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Good thing I got the longer bed this time. It'll be a bit cramped back there but, I just might be able to squeeze a 40mm Bofors in the back. I know the truck can handle the weight. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

What happened to the Stepside ? Why did you get the new one ?

Why did you get the new one? </div></BLOCKQUOTE> I sold that 1999 Stepside a number of years ago. That picture was taken in 2002 or 2003 (I needed the money). I do miss that truck though. It was Jalapeno Green, an unpopular color from what I'd read about that year's Ford colors. It had a 3/73 diff which was great on the highway but it was the "Sport" edition. I wanted the "FX4 Off Road" package (with the 4/10 diff ratio). The new truck is for the weekends. It has a larger wheelbase than the former, though it probably doesn't look that way in the photos. That's because the old Ranger had 15" rims while the new one has 16" rims with larger tires. I still have my 2000, 4 cylinder, Plymouth that I putts around with but, it just passed 80,000 miles in the beginning of May. I needed a second vehicle, just in case, though the car still runs great (due to regular periodic maintenance).

I like the color of the new one.
Want to improve the range on that thing? Get a Tonneau cover for that big air catcher behind the cab.

I just put 300,000 miles on my 2005 Silverado.
Still runs like a champ. I can't ever afford a new truck cause my wife seems to trade hers every 6 months. She keeps it up she's gonna have to get a job.

Good time to buy trucks. What's your MPG?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">What's your MPG? </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Not completely sure but, it's a 4.0 liter V6. I think it's somewhere in the vicinity of 16/20, city/highway. My 2000 Plymouth just passed the 80,000 mark a couple of weeks ago, so I figured I'd better get a second vehicle again, just in case. My wife is always beefin' that she needs a car but then, she never drives anyway. That's initially why I bought the first Ranger, so that she could have the car. I think she drove it 3 times in 3 years. It sat so long in our driveway (w/o being used) that the battery went dead and one tire went flat, all by itself. That's when I decided to sell the truck and start using the 4 cylinder again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Actually, MythBusters did an episode with what would give a pick-up the best gas milage. It seems that those net-looking "Air-gates" work better than a Tonneau cover.

That makes sense and sounds about right, since air swirls around and then downward from the cab. The airgate would look nice if I had this thing strictly tricked-out for serious off-roadin' (i.e., a 4" lift, 33" mud terrains, bullbar w/lamps, etc.). As it is, a tonneau cover, though it would save a little less in gas, looks more aesthetic, less rustic. It'll also keep a lot of crap from piling up in my bed.

Air gates do save on fuel consumption more than a tounneau cover but, they have a few cons like leaving the contents of the bed visible for all to see. That makes hiding bodies problematic and leaves a grossly open shopping cart for opportunistic thieves. I like my jumper cables and tow chains to stay put. Granted, securing a P/U bed has its challenges. But, at least a cover keeps the honest peeps honest.
My little brother had a nice tounneau installed on his Ford. It wasn't your typical button down jobbie with the crossbows holding it up. It had multiple wooden slats pushed through pockets sewn into the cover itself so it laid flat on the bed sides and buttoned down with Velcro. Unlike my bed cover, you don't have to wait for a hot day to put it back on.

Ohhhh, aren't they a pain? That's the type of cover I had on the green truck (you can see it in the first photo). Pulling that sucker tight enough to snap on, over those metal ribs, was always cause for some serious sweat. Even on a hot day it was no cakewalk. I'm going with the fold-down version this time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Both pictures were taken (years apart) during the month of May. Around Memorial Day.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-fc/patriot.gif The difference being that the first was taken shortly after 9/11 but, my flag is still flying. You just can't see it from the angle taken in the second photo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

There is a trick to getting those things buttoned up but it still takes some serious tugging and if it's at or near freezing...fergeddaboutit.

Hmmmm.....

For an american car, it has an unusual lack of "rounds per minute" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The VW Tuareg "Traffic Blitz Edition" somehow offers more in that aspect and comes with a less flashy green camouflage. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Celeon, that barrel looks very interesting...

Is that turret build around old trusty MG42?

If so, there's gonna be some serious cloth-ripping in next episode of "Alarm fuer Kobra 11"...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

(for those outside central Europe, "Alarm.." is a German action series with two highway cops in IDDQD - GOD mode and lots of old cars being blown into the air on autobahn)

I must confess i never saw a single episode of Cobra 11. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif

The only thing i know is that they destroy more cars per episode than any other show in the world. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The daily routine on german Autobahns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JeyN25kp5w)

Mad Max was a Kindergarten compared to this http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I didnt even know that its broadcasted in other countries aswell until i checked that wikipedia article a few minutes ago.

Alarm für Cobra 11 Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g1FwxKEL_0&feature=related) Too trashy for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, thats an MG3 introduced in 1969. Its basically a MG42 rechambered to 7.62mm with some mechanical improvements here and there.

Still the heavy-mg workhorse of the german army. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Q:
Which show dubbed that series "Alarm fuer Kebap 11" due to appearance of Turkish guy as one of main characters?
