It has already been noted that the Rosetta tablet is completely semetrical with the exceptions of the shapes on each "tooth" of what appears to be come sort of cog.
Seen here...

With the resently realeased screenshots we now know that one of the story elements are the "slates" that are enclosed in each orby, bubble thingy. We can also see the room in K'veer form a different angle...

As you might notice.. inside this particular bubble there are four of these so-called slates... The concept art includes a more detailed picture of these slates...

As you may see there is a certain similarity between the slates and the rosetta tablet.... they have the same shapes! As a matter of fact I am willing to guess that the rosetta tablet belongs in K'veer in the very bubble with four different shaped slates... most likely in the middle.

So what do you think? What is the significance of the rosetta tablet? Do you believe that it is supposed to go here? Any thoughts?

I think you're on to something. Now that I've looked, it seems really obvious to me that the Rosetta Tablet fits on the square peg at the center of that four-slate arrangement, "keyed" so that the notches accomodate the vertical stands for the slates. Hmmm, very interesting.

Note also that the conceptual art seems to indicate that each of the slates' stands appears to pull outwards, most likely to insert the Tablet... at which time they swing back up to lock it in place.

All of which begs the question -- will we have an inventory in Myst V? If we need to take the Rosetta Tablet to the slate stand, for example, we'll need to be able to carry things.

Or maybe we just kick it... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Just editing here, with a further speculation. I wonder if, when we get the Rosetta Tablet properly placed in the device with the four slates, if those slates are then enabled somehow, and become our portals to four different ages? You know, sort of like the Nexus. Also, it appears that the bubble in Noloben only has one slate on its stand, so maybe that takes us back to wherever the four-slate device is located.

Somehow I just don't think the purpose of the slates/bubbles involves transportation. We already have linking Books for that. Perhaps the idea is to retrieve slates from the single pedestals in the other Ages and place them in the proper spots on the K'veer device, using the Rosetta Tablet as a guide. Or, maybe the other way around -- take slates from K'veer and carry them to their proper Ages.

It was mentioned in an article that the stone tablet is used to comminicate with creatures (some kind of runes I belive). What do you make of that?

The only place that I can find that even mentions the slates is a worthplaying. Here is what they said in their own words:

"This world seems to have mysterious creatures running amok, but thanks to the introduction of the slate, their presence can be quite advantageous. You learn from Escher that the slate allows you to alter the environment and communicate with the creatures. As it turns out, you will encounter various symbols in the environment, and if a correct combination is etched onto the slate, it will allow you to control some aspects of the environment, such as summoning the creature which conjures rainstorms."

So it looks like the purpose of the slates are to control some aspect of the environment, and is has something to do with communicate with some "creatures" Hmmmmmm...
