I read recently a thread that stated you could alter what time compression the game goes to when another ship is spotted. I think its set at 8x at the moment, but you can alter it to 1x
Can anyone point me to the thread or just tell me how to do it ? Thanks for any help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Some changes posted by someone else, didn't get his name, but is what you want.
Open the main.cfg in the folder my documents\SH3\data\cfg file with a texteditor/notepad and take a look at the following lines:
[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=256
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=4
CharacterAnim=1
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=8
Particles=8
PrayState=128
HunterState=128
3DRender=32
Maximum=2048

You also have to change this in the other main.cfg in the SH3 main directory.

Thanks Lovo_Kazistan "You also have to change this in the other main.cfg in the SH3 main directory."
Lucky I looked back at this as I had only done the one in the main directory, hadn't tried it, but thought I could help Paul_K. fixed now, thanks.

Thanks for the info guys. I've found the documents\SH3\data\cfg file, but I can't find one in the main SH3 directory. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Bump! I really really can't find another main.cfg in the main SH3 directory. In fact, I can't find a main.cfg anywhere but in User Documents/SH3.

I'm at work now, so I may be a little off..
But I'm guessing he means the main.cfg in the /data subdirectory of your SH3 directory.
You can always right-click on your game folder and search for main.cfg too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Actually you just have to edit the one in my documents (learned this yesterday http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif )and you also have to use a power of two as factor.

Okay thanks Lovo, 2x will be enough. The reason why I want to do this is I was at 512x and ran across an RN destroyer. The game dropped to 8x but I wasn't paying attention and my boat suffered some hits before I realized there was a problem. A lot can happen in this game at just 8x !
Thanks again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
