Maybe it's just me, but does it seem a little unusual to anyone else that when you sneak up on a convoy, and fire your first spread, and hit the target, they all stop dead in thier tracks?...Or creep along at 1 or 2 knots? This is everything except the escorts. It sure makes it easy shooting for the 2nd, and even the 3rd targets. Maybe the Japs shut down all engines so that the escorts could hear a sub among them? Seems kind of wierd to me. Any body else have any feed-back on this? Another bug perhaps?

Did it happen after loading an in-game save? That really seems to mess the convoys up.

in real life the jap had a stupid notion of keeping the convoy together unlike the allies in the atlantic so if one had an engine problem the rest would slow down with it and if i torp hit one they would all stop and try and help that partly why they lost the war

Yeh it's very unrealistic, it happens all the time, they just sit there, iv'e read that they would in fact all split at max speed at meet up later and reform, so i guess the merch AI needs a bit of tweeking, mabey one of our modders out there could do some thing about this it spoils the game i think.

I found this as well although after a short time they started up again and looked like they were trying to escape while the escorts milled about looking for me....I am not great at launching the torps and doing the math but I took some pride when one of my launched torps missed the target, kept going and about five minutes later smashed into an enemy destroyer bringing up the rear and sunk it!...made my day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You are correct.
When a convoy was attacked -and several ships were being picked off at will- the capt of the convoy would order the convoy to split up so that they were no longer tight and a sitting duck and would have a better chance of escape.
Bearing in mind that the escorts and convoy didn't know if they were in the middle of a wolfpack or not, this was commom practice.
Also, crews were only picked up if it was safe to do so -certainly not if your hitting ships at will.
Since the game doesn't model ships picking up other sunken ships crews, that is irrelevant, since they stay in life boats whatever the case.
