Things have been kinda slow around the forums recently, which means I have more time on my hands than I like. When this happens it usually means that some new custom missions will be available shortly. I'm working on a couple of ideas right now, but I would like to open this up and see if anybody has any ideas that they would like to see put into a custom mission. I will do my best to comply with your suggestions.

Hmmm, how about an oil tanker convoy in the Dutch East Indies, in heavy seas on a rainy day early in the war, perhaps coming out of one of the bays in the Celebes...

Perhaps a "support group" moving thorough the Sulu Sea towards Davao. Battlegroup would be the Chitose, a minelayer, Mogami, ***a, a few DDs, all surrounding the Kongo. Include a small passenger ship and a couple of freighters/small tankers. Late evening, average weather, not perfectly clear, but not a raging storm either...

Please make both compatible with stock 1.4, for those who are flight sim guys who still have their SH4 training wheels on... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

thanks!

One of the problems with SHIV as it stands right now is that there are a number of different versions available and I don't have all versions readily available on my computer.

I shall try to make allowances for all versions, but I can make no guarantees.

That being said, I have to say I like your ideas, Major_Lee. I shall give them due consideration. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

i think a big gap in missions is the lack of single patrol missions available out there.

many single missions are out there but single patrol missions are as rare as free money.

just my 2 cents

I have made a number of patrol missions. I shall endeavor to make a few more. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

How about:

Your sub was deployed on training maneuvers when Pearl Harbor was attacked, and you were subsequently ordered to return for combat deployment. While en route contacts begin to appear dead ahead, the withdrawing Japanese fleet!

Your crew is inexperienced and you are heavily outnumbered, but you have the singular opportunity to strike the first major blow against the Japanese, and against the fleet that has just killed so many of your friends and countrymen.

To war!

Well how about youre sub is being refitted (subtender)( couple of tankers) and an aproroaching jap TF ( destroyer's(about 6-8) cruisers (2), lite carrier maybe and a surprise heavy like the Yamoto are closing fast on youre position and with limited available aircover and a destroyer (or 2), you have to fend off the attack, and of course, you would have to have an Allied small strike group (escort carrier, 3 destroyers, cruiser comming up to asist, but they are just out of position for an hr,...I would suggest, a very early dawn (or early evening) setting in fair weather.

Well, I don't know if it's possible (i.e., what conditions need to exist for such a mission) but, how about the Battle of Cape Esperance (i.e., The Second Battle of Savo Island)? Geez, there were quite a few naval engagements off of Guadalcanal, weren't there?

I try to stay away from the historical made scenarios. It tends to get a little tedious trying to get all the details just right.

What about defending San Francisco?

Could it be scripted to where they will retreat if X number of tonnes are sunk, but mission failed if they enter the harbor?

Well, here are the first two new missions. They are called Borneo Oil and Kongo Sulu. Thanks to Major_Lee for the ideas. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You can find the missions here (http://postdownload.filefront.com/13880386//b7d4879f0bd18923c02ef9a6af6498e5d02922c2babfb4c755 186cb0e8df3b47a762cc9f9a97b203). They are JSGME ready, BTW.

I know they play in stock and I imagine they will play in FOTRS although I have not tried. If you don't mind giving them a try in FOTRS, Starforce, let me know how they work.

added note> These missions will run in RFB also.

How about a nighttime naval battle in Iron Bottom sound. An American sub trying to stop the IJN capitol ships from bombarding Henderson Field. That would be interesting.

both missions run it fotrs. The oil one was good. The convoy sailed on with one medium/large tanker and a DD with a fire behind the front turret. I sunk everything else, including 4 sampans and a Fishing boat while looking for the convoy.

The Kongo one I messed up the intercept, and ended up in the path of a DD. I fired on it and went deep, and he pinged me just before the torpedo would have hit and changed course. I was able to get in range, sinking one DD from near head on as he approached at 6 knotts, set one afire that passed astern, and one came over at PD and set off a can under my stern. Didn't destroy anything but did some serious damage that limited me to 1 knott. I got 2 torpedo on the kongo, but they collided with a sinking DD instead. Did sink a mogami, and one of the trailing tankers, and while attempting to deck gun something through the haze (troop ship I think) another DD came in and after diving and going to max runner I got the aft tubes around just intime to hit him as well. He turned to run but his engines stalled and he was down by the bow and burning and finished him off with another torpedo. So in all I had the merchie, 4 DD's, and a mogami. After making repairs I looked around some more to see if the convoy turned back or what have you and found and freighter to sink with the gun, a small one.

Thanks or the info on FOTRS, Starforce.

Just to let everyone know, I've got another mission in the works. Hope to have it ready for uploading in a couple of days or so. It's called "West From Truk" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, if it's comming out of truk it ought to be worth sinking.

Add RSRD and you can play that one....Great mission and would still make a great single mission.....stop all that time waiting.

You should try and make the impossible mission and see if anyone can beat it. Reasonable but hard.

Like dropping off a spy, but having to get by a dozen dd's both in and out with lot's of planes.

****Custon Mission Announcement****

Disclaimer: This mission was created using the latest versions of TM and RSRDC. I wanted to take advantage of the wide variety of ships offered in the ME using both of these mods. This being said, you'll find that this custom mission will run best using the latest versions of TMO and RSRDC. So if you have problems running this under a different set of mods I will offer no help.

OK, guys. If you have d/led the above custom mission and given it a try, I would very much like some feedback. Did you like it or not, or maybe what could have been made better?

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars, overall great. I'll play it a few times, didn't get the tonnage I wanted.

Load it up guys, it's fun.
