View Full Version : Nostromoā"˛¢ SpeedPad n52
Does anyone use the Nostromoā"˛¢ SpeedPad n52? I am interested in it but not sure if I want to invest in one. I am wondering how the feel is on the hand. My hand tends to get tired on the keyboard and even though the space bar is as big as it is, I always seem to have a hard time finding it in a pinch.
thanks

It is great, never regreted I got it... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I use it in all games, in RvS the 4/8-way d-pad is quite useful, for like ducking and raiseposture and for peeking.
In Desert Combat mod for BF1942 it works great too, with it I can fly as good as with a joystick or at least I don't need it when I have a n52, again the 4/8-way d-pad is great, use it for stearing in planes etc.
The great feature is that every button can have 4 different settings, if you enable the shift button that cycles between the 4 modes. It can also be set to just cycle to one mode if you only need e.g. two configs in a particular game.
wow, placing my order now.
thanks for that info.+c

Nah just kidding... good luck on you purchace. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
One last thing, in games leave the keyboard config at default and make all the changes, if possible, in the Loadout manger software that comes with the Nostrom. Then if you reinstall your configs still work with default setup, and you only need to save your Profiles dir from the Installed directory of the Nostromo software.
This is also goood if you need to reinstall, Windows or format etc.
thanks for the info. i will rememeber this. should be here early next week and i cant wait.

Once you get used to it you'll wonder how you ever got along without one.
I love mine and am sooo glad one of my clan-mates recomended it to me.
Gunny gave the best suggestion for it in changing the profile for the Nostromo and leaving the default setup in-game alone.

I've never seen one adverticed, but that doesn't mean that they don't make them. Manufacturer is http://www.belkin.com, you can probably get an answer via the Contacts option on the website, if you don't get a reply here.

Don't forget all the nice macros you can make for editing in photoshop as well. I had the n50 and killed the 5 key, got the n52 and still have yet to use all the keys.

i guess i didn't really mean left-handed one, but one which has the pad on the left side. because if i use my right hand to us that, it means my thumb will be on the wrong side.

The keys on it are 'programable' and can be mapped to what you want them to be. So you just setup the keys to send the same signal your keyboard does, but you get to place them in the order that YOU want them in instead of the default layout that is on the keyboard.

Ya I have the Claw and I like it better than the Nostromo. I didn't like the buttons on N52. Only problem the Claw is hard to find now. But if u do find it you will definitely like it. It has only 10 buttons, but u can program a Shift key and have many more. I currently use one shift button and have 18 buttons available, plus my mouse. That is more than enough for most games. I have used the Claw for more than 1 1/2 years and would use nothing else for FPS games, it's awesome. I really like the feel of buttons, and u can change the clickeness to the way u like.
Check it out: http://www.claw.com.au/

Bought one tried it for a week and then uninstalled it. Didnt like it at all. It sure looked hyper functional but I couldn't get comfortable with it. The only thing I liked was the D pad. Unfortunately I had to buy the unit mail order from the UK ( I live in Spain..) as I was unable to find a retailer here to try it out.
Complete waste of money..

Deliverance, Did you try using a Claw? Cause the feel of the buttons are way better than the Nostromo. Give the claw 2 nights of gaming and you won't go back to the keyboard. I just luv the Claw, it's that good. I know it has only 10 buttons, but you have shift fuctions which works really well. I would never go back to using the keyboard ever again.

I just got a N52, and after the initial first few hours getting used to it I can honestly say it rocks. It was easy to set up, and now everything is within finger reach. The only downside to it are the thumb buttons. Whilst the orange one is not overly stiff there are times when you do have to exert a bit extra pressure for it to register, and the other "thumb" button is just that little bit too far to be of any real use. And it also is just a bit on the stiff side. Those gripes aside it was well worth the outlay.
wish i could get mine. ordered two - one for son and was out of town when they delivered. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
now i gotta go through the acewhippin of gettin em reshipped since fedex sent em back.
kills me, $35 computer part requires sig w/ fedex. UPS on the other hand (SAME DAY) left 1200.00 worth of plane tickets sitting on my porch!

I tried the pre-built Raven Shield setup from the Belkin site, didn't like it so created my own. It was amazingly easy to do. Now all I gotta do is create profiles for my other games, WHEN I get time .... hehehe.
