New parch to be available on Steam today.
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23002
Official patch notes:
Finally! It should be available in a few hours via a regular steam update.
Patch readme below:
The latest patch continues to improve on overall performance and multiplayer functionality, as well as adding new gameplay options such as new Quick missions.
NOTE: This patch is incompatible with previous game versions when playing online.
The current patch contains the following changes:
GRAPHICS
* Added ATI Crossfire support. NVidia SLI support will become available when a profile for the game is added in an upcoming official driver release;
* Reworked the lighting system in the game to improve the visual experience;
* Added True full-screen mode. The game was previously playing in a stretched window; that mode is also still available. Switch between windowed, pseudo (stretched window) and true full screen modes in the Video Options. NOTE: If you are running an ATI video card and you notice reduced performance in True full-screen mode, please switch back to Pseudo to improve framerate;
* Greatly improved performance over large cities, especially with Buildings Detail settings set below Very High. NOTE: if you do experience stutters over cities with Building Detail set to Very High, please consider turning it down. Even setting this to Medium will have almost no noticeable effect on visual quality of the game;
* Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+ cores;
* Fixed a bug with distant forest lines appearing at close distances;
* Fixed a bug with shadow stripes appearing at edges of screen;
* Fixed improperly loading plane textures in the DirectX 9 render.
AIRCRAFT VISUALS
* Reduced head motion effects, especially in terms of G;
* Added a range of new SFX for bombs hitting or exploding inside a building;
* Increased draw distance for markings and decals on aircraft;
* Reworked stopwatch behaviour on German planes. The minute elapsed needle now indicates minutes as it should.
* Fixed minor Bf. 110 damage and animation issues;
* Fixed weird movement of Bf. 110's magnetic compass dial;
* Fixed Bf. 109 gunsight misalignment;
* Fixed a hole under a damaged engine cowling in the Defiant;
* Fixed visual issues with Defiant's tail damage;
* Put a mirror onto the Hurricane;
* Fixed Hurricane's tail damage visuals;
* Updated Hurricane radiator animation;
* Ju. 88 gear now open properly;
* Fixed minor Ju. 88 damage visuals;
* Asked the Ju. 88's pilot to keep his feet on the pedals;
* Made minor changes to cockpits of G. 50 and Ju. 88;
* Fixed a visual issue with the Spitfire's antenna;
* Fixed minor Sunderland damage visuals;
* Made minor modifications to Spitfire cockpit;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 88;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Hurricane;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 87;
* Made various modifications to SFX;
* Made various changes to victory marking decals;
* Fixed minor Blenheim damage visuals;
* Fixed a rare instance where a propellor could be visible when an engine was detached from a 2-engine plane;
* Planes won't knock dust off the water any more when they land on it.
AIRCRAFT PHYSICS & A.I
* Carburetter backfire effects now require a certain amount of gasoline mix to be contained in the intake to actually do some damage;
* The propellor pitch control on all Daimler-Benz-equipped Messerschmitts is now a spring-loaded electrical switch;
* Aircraft fires now burn crew members;
* Reduced the ability of bombs to bounce off certain surfaces;
* Changed magnetic inclination to 10.11 degree west to reflect actual 1940 values;
* Removed ignition control handle from the Bf. 109;
* Defiant's gunner now opens both hatches when bailing out;
* He. 111 top gunner's machine gun won't dip into the fuselage any more;
* Made all fuel pressure gauges a single-tube type;
* Made turret mounts unlock faster;
* Removed the effect that made Bf. 109's motor shake at higher altitudes;
* Added aircraft buffeting to wing icing effects;
* Increased wing lift loss during wing icing;
* Fixed the issue where non-symmetrical damage to landing flap mechanics resulted in symmetrical air flow over both wings.
GENERAL
* Added Force Feedback support to the game;
* Added six new Il-2-style Quick missions. See them at the bottom of the list - three each for German and British attacks of Airfields, Bridges and Transport Columns. Fly in bombers, escort and intercept and scramble fighters, with missions of up to 128 aircraft!
* Improved the damage model for radar;
* Made sure plane selection and other user modifications stick in Quick Mission Builder when returning to the interface after flying a custom mission;
* Restored throttle-up smoke from non-player planes;
* Fixed some pilot animations;
* Updated some briefings and other in-game texts;
* Improved the overall look of the 2D Map;

* Added city and airfield labels to the 2D Map;
* Added larger 64x64 icons to the 2D Map;
* Improved the order in which icons are drawn on the 2D Map when on top of each other;
* Improved the look of the Battle Area grid;
* Fixed icon size selection options;
* Fixed issues encountered when destroying certain types of railway cars;
* Improved ground crewmembers in online games;
* Made sure Bobbin Cable can be selected in the FMB without issues;
* Fixed an issue encountered when trying to load a mission with a balloon winch placed too near a hangar;
* Fixed an issue encountered when trying to place crew into an object without a regiment;
* Fixed an issue with launching night missions with search lights on dedicated servers;
* Fixed an issue with launching missions with certain ships on dedicated servers;
* Fixed an issue with launching missions with armor when sound is disabled.
MULTIPLAYER
* Improved server and client stability and performance;
* Improved statistics;
* Improved user interface;
* Made parked planes disappear after a certain period of time so as not to clutter the airfields;
* Fixed phantom crewmembers occasionally appearing in place of dropped planes;
* Made sure airborne planes are created with sufficient airspeed in online games (born speed now tied to the plane's top speed);
* Made sure all players see the same time of day in an online server.
CHANNEL MAP
* Made Dungeness Point look more like the real-life location;
* Added the town of Horsham to the map;
* Added Westhampnett airfield to the map.
SPECIAL THANKS
* Sean Trestrail for his tireless efforts to test and improve the game;
* 3GIAP_Atas, Doug Watson, "The Oden", Repka Server, and other server hosts and testers that helped us iron out the multiplayer.

And this is why I LOVE this developer. You can count on plenty more patches and content in the coming months, if not years!

An impressive list for sure, but its a list of things that should of worked out of the box. Not weeks after release! Its great that they are fixing this stuff, but im not going to prais them for fixing what should not of been broken in the 1st place. Typically, if someone knowingly sells you a broken item, without listing it as such, its called a scam.

Does that make Ubi the scammers rather than the Devs? The Devs didn't want to release it in the state it was in.

Good stuff.
I was hoping they might take another look at Sheppy, its hardly anything like what Sheppy actually looks like from the air. Its quite a major land mark as well as it tells pilots its the Medway and not the Thames Estuary.

I thought Cliffs of Dover already was a retail product? So why is this a Retail Patch? Unless it confirms the release truly was a Beta after-all?

Name the game that was released with all promised features working flawlessly, if you are not happy then return to where you purchased product, simple. As for a scam well that is a bit harsh and as we all know you have issues with Maddox games owing to past working relations, your comments are a little petty, you arent totally wrong, but it is unfortunately just the way it is with software and constant complaining about what wasnt in the box is pointless as they aren't going to go back and re-release it, just think it could be like SH5 where the game was just dumped, at least they are still trying to achieve some of their promises.
The way some of you carry on about scams and various legalities makes me think there are either a lot of saints here or a lot of hypocrites, Gibbage have none of your models ever failed to achieve the fidelity promised by you at release and then required later fixing?

Every game ever made is missing at least a few features, thats true. Just part of the process. But out of the hundreds of video games I have played, I have yet to find a game as umplayable as CoD. THATS my point. It simply could not be played as delivered, and thats the scam. When you sell something to the public, it better damn well work.

Installed the patch. Very little improvement over the previous betas. I´m ****ing had it now with this POS.
BTW, Gibbage1, you seem to be only sane person on this forum. You are right; this game still ****ing blows! Patch fix lists are getting longer and longer, but basic game is still ugly, bugridden garbage. I ****ing can´t understand this masturbation around every patch. Mostly these patches just bring basic elements into the game, like ****ing WORKING FULLSCREEN! And people are all exited! "OMG fullscreen! I have confidence in Oleg's team only since I have been playing IL2 since it's inception. If it is not right now, it will be . I have been holding off on my system upgrade now for Storm of War ... er Cliffs of Dover to come out.
I just started ordering part to upgrade my 5+ year old system, I may go through Fallout3 Vegas first then circle back to CoD , but if I bought the game now I would not worry about it never being "right" .

Not all of them. And you have to allow for the fact that people who have squeaky wheels demand the most oil.
For those who have benifited from the patch,perhaps they can't be bothered to post?
And don't forget the extra functions as single player.
I'm now using the FMB and it's very similar to il2 1946.
In a stramge way,the sim is also almost photographic in it's realism. I keep taking screenies to save and enjoy. That itself must indicate a worthwhile plus.

I still get niggly, irritating little squirmy judders and jumps even mid-Channel. I did have a period of silky game play (away from land) but these last two patches seem to have done for that, I'd hoped a roll back from the 270.xx drivers might help but no dice. I've pretty much given up on any hopes of getting a reasonable landscape representation given that 'my set up + this sim's attempts to model Kent = Pants.'
I did have a Spit up to 28,700ft though and guess what...contrails. Avro's right though, it does take a smashing picture.

Looks like I do have the new patch It has just coincided with my New single GPU, CPU cooling and Win 7 upgrade.
Looking and running really good. With a nice little vibe from FFB. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
Although I did have a 1FPS momment for a wee while whilst flying over a French town that wasn't even on my screen?

Okay, even I will concede it's running a lot better.
Now bring on the patch to fix the tracers in appearance (no more X-wing lasers please)and put them in the Spitfire. Please fix the terrain colour but, above all things, above ALL things, fix those bloody awful gun sounds in the next patch. The engines aren't brilliant but it's the guns that make me crazy!
It's slowly getting there.

I didnt see a great improvement - i loaded up the 'free flight - france' mission, when i hit the deck over the port town i was getting less than 10 FPS.
Bummer - I even have buildings set to medium.

Ihave this game, yes a game, for nearly a month and half and I find it every day a little better.
There was no great improvement for me with the last patch but little by little we get there.
Never forget that IL2 the original was not perfect and how many patches offcial or not from the first days in 2001 until today.
I love this game and when froma time to time I try to return to them there is nothing to compare to this one.

Agreed that tracers could look a little better, I think the effect is overall correct, just a little too "fat" up close from behind. As far as putting tracers in the spit, no, that is historically correct, put them in yourself in the loadout screen if you must.

The Spitfire Mk1/2 did not use tracers? Well if that's correct then I agree they should be left out. (A bit of a blow for me as I need all the help I can get! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif )
It does surprise me though, so I have started a new discussion on the subject so this thread does not go off topic.
Many thanks devs !!
I was not happy with the head shake(Mutch too prononced ,now I am
I like the view from the hurricane
But the spitfire blue tinge of the front windscreen combined with the tinge of the gunsight makes it very difficult to find a DOT in the sky
I know it was due to the armor plated ,but I think(not quite sure when that Churchill argued about the yankee gangsters having armor plated cars windows and his pilots should have them too
But here we already have the handicap a a tunnel vision and more hindrances,so why add to them ???
It is only my opinion though...
I now fly more on the Hurricane although the spit is "morer betterer"

New patch is good for me. I can now run in my HD screen's full native resolution (1920x1080) at acceptable frame rates (with mirrors off) or excellent frame rates at the 1600x900 I was running pre-patch.
Patch notes say quad core (or better) cpu will benefit most from some of the fixes, that includes me with an i7 950.

Hotfix
We're releasing a hot fix to mainly address the DB prop pitch as well as a few other issues.
Should be available from steam in a few hours.
Hotfix notes edited into the main post, plus here they are again.
ATTENTION!
If you experience sub-par performance or unexpected artifacts please update your graphic
drivers to the latest version.
ATI Cards:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/d...Pages/downloads.aspx (http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx)
NVidia Cards:

Additionally, if you have disabled Cloud Synchronization for config files, you may be playing
a game with an obsolete controls config. Please back up and delete your old file and reenable
Cloud Synchronization to grab a latest stock version.
GENERAL
* The game will now automatically delete and recreate its cache when a new game
version is installed;
* Medium-range terrain detail noise is less dramatic when seen from up-close;
* Improved the lighting of spline roads and runways;
* Fixed empty tooltips occasionally appearing at edges of the 2D map;
* Map zoom extents now reset properly when switching between game maps of
different size;
* By popular demand, enemy indicator arrows will now only appear in the no-cockpit
view, and will not show up when the cockpit is turned on, i.e. work they did in
the original Il-2 games.
AIRCRAFT INTERNALS
* Removed warnings of a missing "Select_F1" piece when flying a Hurricane.
* The Sunderland will no longer cause errors when loading a mission.
AIRCRAFT VISUALS
* Inverted the movement of the Bf. 109's radiator flap indicator (raised when
radiator closed).
* Propellor visuals are now tied to epilepsy filter settings applicable regions.
AIRCRAFT PHYSICS & A.I.
* Spitfires' payload in outer-most machine guns changed to contain tracers. The more
historical no-tracers loadout can still be selected and applied manually in plane
options.
* Removed the ability to feather propellors on Daimler-Benz engines by increasing
the pitch angle beyond normal operational range manually.
MULTIPLAYER
* Conversion settings should properly synchronize between all players;
* Fixed the weapon selection grid in online games requiring an extra click to save.

What FPS are other players getting over ground and what are your graphic settings? I have a good gaming computer and I am still getting a crappy 33 FPS with some stutters over land. I have to say that until this game can get over 45 FPS over land then it's going to remain unplayable for me. I just cannot get a good sense of flight when it feels like I am flying through treacle and the plane is in slow motion. I have tried setting some of my setting to medium, but I still get the same crappy 33 FPS. I still await the patch that is going to bring about a big improvement in FPS and so i will be back for the next patch. Lets hope one day I will be able to play what I paid for.
I also think I am being kind when I say 45FPS given that most people want 60FPS these days.

WTF. Anything over 30FPS is Playable/smooth. AFAIAA. What are you. Not happy with?
What are your specs?
There are "High end systems", that can play this Sim. And there are "Benchmark Systems".that are well. What they are. (Nothing to do with playing) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif
AFAIAC. I like to "Play the game".
"Black Death TRK" Was always the Benchmark in IL2.(For ever and ever http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif)

I know what I am not happy with.
And as for now. It isn't FPS!!

I get 33 FPS with the game on medium setting, but if I start to put shadows and that on I get 25 FPS over land. I am not happy because for me the game feels like I am in slow motion and I think thats down to the lousy FPS I am getting. Do you seriously think 30 FPS for a flight sim is enough? I am getting 33FPS and my game isnt anywhere near smooth. I can actually see the frames chugging along as I fly in this game and for me that isn't what I would call smooth. I own other flight sim games so I am well aware of what is ruining smooth and what is not running smooth. All the other games I own do run smooth and I already figured thats down to the fact I get 60FPS on them.

Just a thought...
Before I upgraded my PC and AFTER I had first installed CloD, somebody had mentioned that the game itself didn't install the Microsoft .Net Framework 4. I downloaded that and installed it BEFORE I got my PC upgraded and it made a huge difference...though the game was still unplayable over land.
But, once I got a new videocard, windows 7 and 8-Gigs of RAM, it works like a dream. My processor is a dual core that runs at 3.33 Ghz.
Maybe you've already got the .net framework 4. If you don't know check your control panel.

I get 30 or fps low over London (less than 1000' on the altimeter) with everything medium, shadows on but mirrors off. I get between 20 and 30 with mirrors on. Either way, the render is smooth and stutter free. Does your CPU have four or more cores? If not, possibly this is a factor:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">* Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+ cores; </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Before this change I had fps only slightly lower but my graphics suffered frequent minor pauses (sometimes several times a second) while landscape details loaded when flying low over land, especially over cities. This was not a factor of the low(ish) fps but of complete pauses while CPU did pre-render loading in chunks instead of smoothly.

@ Tully - I have a quad core and 30 fps for a flight Sim of this nature is never going to be good enough for me. I say this because 30FPS is never going to give you the feeling of speed which needs to be created in a fight Sim like this. Also, when I turn the game to medium setting it makes Il2 look better in comparison and I did buy this game for it's graphics. I guess I will have to wait sometime before this game becomes playable for me. I think it's going to take another graphics cards at the very least, but I cannot justify spending over £100 just to get one game ruining good.

I think a lot of that is in the eye of the beholder, Im pretty much used to always having an at best mid range PC, so probably get used to less then stellar performance, a steady 30 is sweet for me and smooth, this is about the same for me as ROF, particualry online both sit in the 30's fps wise but are very smooth or seem that way to me, which is all that really counts, maybe I just shut out the bad bits. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif
