I did a search could not find a another similiar thread. I am on my 6 patrol with GWX mod. I noticed that my depth gauges do not working properly. To go 15 meters, I have to set my dept at 23. To get 40 meters, I have to set my depth to 60; to get 120 meters, I have to set my depth to 200 meters. etc. This can be dangerous when be pursued and when going to periscope depth, because the top of my conning tower will be sticking out of the surface and I have to re-adjust where I set my depth to compensate. Also it means my U-boat usually runs submerged with it's bow planes in the down position, but the U-boat will not dive.

My hull is 100% and I have had no damage.

I am just assuming I am reenacting a malfunction and it will get fix when we get back to port. Any ideas?

P.S. I was sneaking around in the port of Reykjavik and I noticed a destoryer bow down in the shallow ocean bottom with it's aft sticking up in the air. It was not sunk, it was just bouncing with it's bow in the sand trying to go forward. It was moving around in the bay like that. The sailor's bravely stayed at their positions in the stern.

Do you by chance have that effect in Commander turned on, that simulates malfunctions and sabotage?

Has this happened to ALL 6 patrols or just this last one? That could be your problem.

As for ships like that, yeah, it happens. Go to Halifax in Canada. More often that not, you'll see ships sticking out of concrete piers.

I once "sank" a carrier in Loch Ewe, it was listed as destroyed, but it remained afloat. It then floated around the docks for a bit before coming to rest at another dock http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I am on my next patrol and the same problem.

I use SH3 Commander and SH3 Gen. I couldn't find the effect you talked about.

Found it! No, I did not check that box.

And it is still doing it. When I go to periscope depth, my U-boat only submerges enough to leave the conning tower sticking up. I have to constantly be checking to make sure I am submerged and not able to be seen when I approach a convoy.

This problem almost cost me last night. I could not get my U-boat to go to proper depth. Lucky me I still got away with only minor damage.

I noticed last night when I put my engines at 1/3, my U-boat would go to the correct depth, let's say 60 meters. When I would back off to "slow" my U-boat would rise to 40 meters.

Very interesting. Are you by chance running any other mods installed on top of GWX, OR, have you installed GWX over a non-fresh install of the game?

I've had problems because of the above 2, but they were only with sound and crashes after doing some actions.

Usually, a boat is supposed to be more or less level till about 120 meters. After which point it slowly sinks with engines at Slow. Need to go at least 1/3rd to restore control over depth.

Your problem seems to be exactly opposite, and I have no clue why http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Come on people, let's help this Kaleun! Anyone else want to propose a theory?

What type U-Boat?
Seems I saw something like this
on some testing.
But forgot to make a note.

Can you post a list of your installed mods and which version of GWX you are using?

I just upgraded to GWX 2.1 and started a new campaign. I haven't seen the problem. Maybe it's gone!

I hate to re-open an old thread but im also having this same problem with GWX 2.1. The only other mod I use is SH3 Commander, and only to change the games default time acceleration when im close to land to 128x.

When I installed GWX 2.1 it was a fresh game install. I would try to fix it by just starting fresh with GWX 3.0 but im in the middle of a career that I would like to finish.

It is just annoying when I hit (p) and my depth isn't deep enough that my conning tower sticks out of the water. The sub Im using is a IIa. But i tested this on single mission with a XXI and still the same problem. It appears that the depth is about 1.5 - 2 meters more shallow then what I actually ordered.

I also just did a test on single mission and noticed that the deeper i go the more innacurate the depth keeping is. That is until I actually order the engines ahead. Then the U-boat will dive to the ordered depth.

Is this normal?

Well I have made a fresh install of SH3 (including fresh Windows XP install, but that's an other story)

and after that I installed GWX 3.0. Same thing with my IIa -sub. First I thought "didn't I order 15m depth? It's 10m now."

Now the game requires a lot of rechecking with depth.

Any help for a quick-fix?

Welcome aboard vheiskal,

did you patch the game or is it patched to 1.4b?

Thanks!

I patched it to 1.4b before installing GWX 3.0

EDIT : I made some tests. With full speed the depth will be as I ordered. But when the speed was 0 and I ordered 20m, it dived only 17m. But when the throttle was pushed up, my sub dived to 20m.

So, it seems to be a feature, not a bug.

I rechecked that - GWX Manual, Page 48!

Yep!

Well, what can you expect from a computer generation. They (we) think everything goes smoothly just by a press of a button, but there are some physical laws, which might disturb that thought http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Thanks!
