Here's a quote from RAWA which he recently posted to The Lyst:

quote:
A little inside info, since I was the one who started "Something
Elseā"ž¢" back in May...

Bill is right on the money.

If you want to look back in the archives at the end of May, you'll see
that folks were trying to figure out if we were going to be doing more
Uru expansion packs after TPotS. I answered that we were working on
"Something Else" as way to say, "No, our next project will not be
another Uru X-pack" without giving any specific information about any
of the projects that we had in development. I wasn't just talking
about "Sasquatch" (Myst V's codename which you discovered a few months
later).

Now that Myst V has been officially announced, you can see how
"Something Else" was accurate for that project in the context of not
being another expansion for Uru, and with the other information in the
announcement you can probably also see that "Something Else" was even
more appropriate for the other projects we have in development (which
will remain mysteries a while longer).

You'll have to stay tuned for news of "Something Else Entirely" and
"Something Completely Different".

So, Myst V really WAS the fabled Something Else project that started it all... but in the midst of all that, we have two other projects that are also currently in development.

I can't wait to get more hints in the future regarding those two projects. I think that Cyan will come up with something good even if it isn't Myst/D'ni related. I will definitely be buying it.

Wow. Sometimes the forums are more mysterious than the games. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ah well, whatever these two mystery projects are, I'm sure they'll be fabulous! Thanks, Cyan.

I'm constantly amazed that people forget that Cyan is a business as well as a wellspring of good stuff.
Their current customer base is us, and there are fewer of us than in years past. Certainly they won't ignore their loyal customer base, but they simply cannot afford to cater to our whims because it might very well bankrupt them.
So their problem is to come up with something new, something that has wider appeal and which, ideally, will also appeal to their loyal customer base.
If you were Cyan, what would you do?

People that work at Cyan have families and they need to live. Cyan is a job even though they love what they do. They do it to make a living just like we do. They can't afford to forget about a wider market in favor of catering to a smaller albeit loyal fan base.
