My newest mission, commemorating the Amiens Prison raid.
From the ReadMeFirst file:

<span class="ev_code_yellow">The bombing of Amiens prison.

The prison's 700 inmates included several activists in the French Resistance, 12 of whom were to be executed on 19 February 1944.

At noon on 18 February, 11 Mosquitoes dive-bombed the prison, dropping time-delay bombs inside the outer wall from a height of 60 feet; the guards' accommodation area was also bombed. A 12th Mosquito repeatedly overflew the area and photographed the entire operation.

The blast breached the wall and blew in the doors of the prison. The explosion killed 102 prisoners, but 258 escaped, including 79 Resistance or political prisoners; sadly, two-thirds of the escapees were later recaptured.

The co-op version of this is a squad favourite of ours. Very good mission with lots of cool scenery. The target is particularly cool. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Highly recommended.

yeah, the online version was a blast. Low and fast ala 633 Squadron. I kept looking for Cliff Robertson.

Mossies were used twice to do prison breaks. If i was in there, id take my chances and sure want them to come. The film from the raids is amazing. I think the only loss was the leader who was bounced by FWs on the way out.....i think. they couldnt catch most of em.

The only thing it needs is the theme from "633 squadron" playing in the background. Actually, i guess you could arrange that......

Did I enjoy the mission? Let's see.....I hightailed it out of there fast on the deck (50m) after levelling the buildings across the street from the SW wall of the prison. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif I had an engine shot out but limped home and bellied in, because I have no idea how to land a Mossie correctly, never having flown it until this mission. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif But when my engine was hit just offshore, I hit F3 to see where everyone went. They were all back at the scene of the crime, shooting things up and such. So I'm runnin' like hell back to the ranch, while those yahoos are having fun and making me look like a chump! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif So, hell yes I enjoyed it!

That perpective is great...I wasn't paying a lot of attention either taking off or especially landing, so thanks for the pic of the airfield. The cliffs really set this one off from others. Good job, Beebop! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

You could alway's make a little mini-campaign with it m8 hint-hint-wink-wink http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Perhaps I will but I'm just about done with my first mini-campaign, "Baltic Raiders". When that's done I'll think about making a campaign of famous Mossie raids. How I'm going to sink the Turpitz with 500 pounders will be quite a challenge. I'd love to wait for the Norway map but that will be at least "two weeks" from now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Thanks major setback.
Re: the "Tirpitz Raid". My bad. Mosquitos apparently never did such a raid. It was the Lancasters. The final 'Lanc' raid used the "Tallboy."
Oh well, there are plenty of other Mosquito missions to model.

By all means do Phas3e.

Perhaps if several of us make different "Famous Mossie Raids" they could be packaged together (with appropriate credits of course) and uplaoded to airwarfare, NetWings or Flying Legends.

I cant remember which raid it was on a prison, but on one misn the initial planes in wrere on target, and the misn was a success. However, in one of the awful ironies of war, one plane was hit and crashed into the edge of a school, causing some casualities among the students.

the last few planes in the attack saw the fire and smoke and thought it was the target and accurately dropped on the school worsening the casualties...i think it was in belgium, but not sure.

An odd occurrence in hist0ry of a great aircraft.

The Isreali AF also used them alot in the late 40s, early 50s. they "obtained" a batch by fronting as a movie company purchasing them from France I believe (Im getting kinda old man-the F-100 was our most numerous fighter when i was born for petes sake).

They took off supposedly for a movie scene and flew several of these planes off into the sunset, not to be seen until they surfaced in the Mideast enroute to isreal. A few were still in service in 56, and id love to know their combat service, but its hard to find, even with all my books on the IAF.

Anyhow, the special ops history of htis plane could make several cmpns.

THese are a couple of shots of kermit weeks mossie (forget which model-late war wiht a bigger bombay) right after he got it restored in 87 at westmemphis Ark. Ive got some great shots in the air wiht spits and a B25....just gotta find em.

One on the ground after its taxied in. I dont think they fly this much anymore for obvious reasons. It was at teh EAA museum in Oshkosh, but it may be back at his new museum in lakeland fla. I dunno. Those merlins were sweat.
You just have to see ane hear one of these birds. It was used in the movie "633 sqdrn" with a fake solid nose-one of three. Another one is in the USAF museum in us weather recon markings, and the third one belonged to BAC and had a gun nose. It was destroyed in a bad crash a few yrs ago. Just in case you wondered what happened to those 3 planes.

hey is this a map in pf stanalone or is it forgotten battles map? i only have of so i might not be able to use it

It's the Normandy map, the one with the "mini British Isles" that came with AEP. If you have "of" (PF?) only it won't work. As stated at Flying Legends in the "Compatability" box, "...for FB/AEP/PF merged"
If you don't have FB/AEP you should search out the Gold Pack. It has both along with patches up to 4.0 IIRC. W/O the Gold Pack you're missing out on 2/3 of the fun. Seriously!

The raid 'Enforcer' relates to, in which a school was tragically bombed by mistake, must have been Operation Kartago when the Gestapo Headquarters in the Shell building in Copenhagen was bombed.
This took place on 21 March 1945. Despite coming close to the end of WW2 it was decided to bomb the Gestapo building which also housed a prison where some very important resistance members were held. Gestapo was supposed to be close to cracking the Danish resistance organization and the raid was approved.
The Gestapo registers over the resistance organization was destroyed why the planned raid on them could not be performed, but 133 Danish citizens died in the attack. Many of them chidren from the French School near by(More than 80).
Many Germans in the head quarter were also killed. I will remember between one and two hundred. Officially "only" 70.

Beebop,

Looks excellent. I am adding it to the playlist for this Thursday's coop session. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the continued interest. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Enforcer, nice Mossie pics!

Doubletap, I'm honored. Even though it's a Single Player mission It's quite useable as a coop. It will just force the host into the primary plane attacking the walls. Open the mission in the FMB and uncheck the player plane. It will be easy to spot as it's waypoints will have a little flag on them. If you have any problems with this, let me know and I'll shoot you a fully co-op version.
