New ATI r420 cards out

See for yourself. pretty darn close overall, nvidia seems to do better with older directx8 games. ATI really (female dog) slaps nvidia on games like Far Cry and anti-aliasing in some other games.

However nvidia is also coming out with another card that is really just overclocked.

Eh, it's not a big enough difference to make a fuss about. Both cards are more than fast enough to run any game right now. So it's really down to just brandname loyalty here. However, compared to the 9700 Pro I currently have, the new ATI card is blazing fast, but I'm not about to spend $500 for another 100fps that I won't notice. I'll wait until this becomes the current generation, and the 9800 Pro will drop in price, that might be good for me if I ever need to upgrade, but I think my 9700 Pro will do fine for now.

The Geforce 6800 (and GT/Ultra/Ultra Extreme) is not just "overclocked" at all... It is based on a completely different architecture, with many new features and better support for upcoming technology... It is just as different, if not more different, from the previous generation as the Radeon X800 series (which doesn't support PS3.0 and VS3.0) is from the previous generation. I do like the sound of the X800s "Temporal anti-aliasing", which can adapt to a different sampling pattern every frame (if required) to achieve optimal quality at a good framerate.

My 128MB ATI Radeon Pro is good enough for now, my general rule is to upgraed every second generation. The only reason why I would upgrade so fast is if it was edible, so I could east the card instead of selling it later http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif!
