I dont have permission to make a poll.. I mean I am only a frag doll on this forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Anyways what r my odds on driving 2000 miles in a 1998 isuzu/113,000 miles without breaking down?

Random question I know...

Brooke, for long distance trips, the management highly recommends bringing someone along who knows how to turn a wrench. Besides providing extra company and moral support, someone who knows what they're doing can help prevent problems BEFORE they happen.

Otherwise, replace oil/coolant, and check the tranny level, and you ought to be fine!

Phineas1382
05-24-2005, 09:23 PM
The mileage or the year aren't that relevant. Check your timing belt (as Jinx said), your engine oil, and [most importantly] the condition of your transmission and transmission fluid. I'd suggest having your transmission checked and the fluid changed [if needed]. If all those are in tip-top shape - you should be just fine.

Thanks guys/girls.. Yeah I will be getting my belt replaced tomorrow.. I was going to get it done today but the mechanic decided to take 2 hours to rotate my tires and change the oil, so I just said, **** it I’ll do it tomorrow...

Before you head out on your long trip let me reccomend the twilight zone episode: The hitch hiker to you. Watch it before you head out, preferrably alone.

I don't know why you're driving 2000 miles. With today's gas prices the train would be a better option if you could take it. But if you need your car with you (like for a move) then I guess you're stuck. (As for the poll thing try not being a frag doll. I know idiots would create polls comparing the girls ect but I just want the ability to make a poll like I'd have anywhere else. What ubisoft polit bureau do I visit about that one)

P.S. Thankyou Diva, I take pride in that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif You've got a good point but the beautiful thing about that episode is the woman in it (traveling alone on a long trip) interacts with people and makes phonecalls ect. I actually prefer listening to audio then reading books... I recently received Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, so that should keep my mind focus for awhile..

Yes Im moving so train isnt a option, I need my car.. Plus I had to take trains when I was younger and wanted to jump out and start running... I felt like I would make more progress... Train might be straight shots, but they feel like they move 10 mph, not to mention stop at every lil town on your way..

Make sure your tires are the correct air pressure as well. It will help with gas mileage and tire wear. Im guessing if you got your tires rotated they would have done this for you already. You should probably also check your spare tire just incase.

I liked the twilight zone movie- but in all honesty that kid still kinda creeps me out.

Anyway, I'd recommend bringing a cell phone and a headset (those pink H2 headsets should work) and just talk to people on the road. It really helps pass the time when you get sick of hearing Christina Aguilera (If I spelled that incorrectly, I don't care).

Oh and make sure your alternator is working fine too, on a 200km trip (thats like 120miles or something for you americans) I had it break down and my car just died. Not fun to find a replacement and it was like 150bucks.

Good luck with the move though, and if you get in trouble bring a horn to call for ewok backup. Works for me all the time.

Brooklyn,

As a boost of confidence, I took a 1992 Dodge Shadow from Pacific Beach in San Diego, cross-country to D.C.

It had 152,000 miles on it. Like everyone else said, oil change, tire pressure, tune up before hand. We had no problems and I trusted the car enough to buy it from my sister.

I can't say enough about the timing belt. A friend took his wife's bmw into a shop they said you have 75k on this and you haven't changed the timing belt thy're s'posed to be changed at 60k. 3 weeks later, pow, clank grinding to a stop $3500 later (two pistons, 5 valves a new timing belt)and she was going 5 miles per hour. And this is not meant to be condescending make sure they replace your timing belt (not your fan belt saying it's a timing belt)we know how "honest" some mechanics can be. Safe driving get out and walk often and see the sights you never know when you'll pass that way again.

Did you ever think they sabotaged her? You'd be surprised how many problems my carsd have developed after I took them to a mechanic. We once found a screwdriver had been left punchering a tank on one of our cars and another time they swapped out steel running boards for plastic on a van. Both times resulted in free repairs to fix their "repairs". In short. I don't trust mechanics. AT ALL.

No, there's not. It's *******es like you- the majority- who don't understand it's fiction that are the problem with this book. "It really makes you think about things" It shouldn't. It's fantasy. You should "think about things" about as much reading about a failed catholic assasination attempt as when gimli jumps over the ramparts of helm's deep. But I shouldn't be surprised. This country's always ostracised catholics so a book where they're the villains was sure to fly off the shelves. The only villian that would be perianally more popular would be the nazis.

I agree so long as the car is running well…check all fluid levels before you leave…check them every other time you stop for gas…..check the belts now make sure they are in good condition….no cracks ect. If you have a friend who knows about cars have them look these over so you don’t get ripped off by a shop. If you take it to a shop to have them look at the belts they WILL roll you and tell you things need to be replaced even if they don’t.
Take a working phone and let people you know know where you are every step of the way.
