My CPU fan failed last night. Over the last few days, I have been getting stuttering and freezing (up to 7-8 secs)that I was not getting before. It also seemed to be taking longer to load campaigns and missions. Could this have been caused by the fan not performing properly as it broke down? Thanks for the help.

Definately, but not because the fan was breaking but because you CPU was probably getting to hot. Depending on your system you can set in the bios to warn you of such and event before it gets to bad, also you can set a max temp there so your PC would shutdonw if the CPU exceeds that temp.
All depends on your hardware, but yes, a faulty cpu fan means high CPU temp. During a game your CPU is under load and doing a lot of work and it will heat up bigtime if cooling is insufficient.

I hope you replaced the fan with a working one before continue using your computer?

You will be shocked how fast these CPU heat up without a fan. I once forgot to attach my waterpump and it took like 30 seconds before I got some alarm beeps and my computer shut down. Itâ´s times like that you are happy you have a mainboard with working overheat protection!

The first time (I assume)that I turned on the computer after the fan failed I got an error message right away, and other than some very quick research on the price cpu fans, it hasn't been turned on. It's in the shop now. I bought a good fan that is supposed to be compatible with my cpu and with my HP. I brought it home, opened up the computer and...realised that nothing looked quite right. I brought the fan and the computer to the shop, where the techs opened it up and spent 5 minutes humming and hawing and shaking their heads and muttering to themselves about HP's! Thanks for the heads up on the effect of heat on performance. Now I know.

Not to be a wise a** but here's something you should do on a regular basis. I found out the hard way. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Shut off power to your pc, ground yourself to the tower and open the side panel. Then take a can or air, a vacuum with plastic hose to suck up all the ****, and blow out CPU, fans and everything you can. Don't turn the can of air upside down tho or you'll have to wait awhile for things to dry out and restart..... wet propellant comes out when upside down. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

You'll find your PC will run better and last longer.... especially the CPU.

Well, I guess the technicians at the shop have the situation handled. If not, maybe this link can help...

Of course, it would have been easier to help you if I knew what model number we are dealing with here, so this may or may not be the right fan for your PC.
