I had a fun idea while working on a new map of mine, which I didnt even think I was going to do for a while. But, i was up late one night and had a sudden inspiration, so I loaded up the editor, threw on a pot of coffee and started click click clicking away.
So, the fun idea was when I was tinkering with some photo editing software. Since a few of us have already done storylines, why not start a little comic to give the backstory? So, here is a short little comic for a work in progress, of which actually is yet to be titled. Im only about 1/3 of the way complete, as the main building still needs finishes and I plan on including several smaller custom structures as well.
This map will probably take a long time to complete, which was another selling point of the comic. I am going for a level of ambience far beyond what I have ever done yet, and Ive done some heavily custom themed maps. Screens below, after the comich show the acual map progress.

Ok, so there wasnt much to that, but a future installment will go more in depth, as i will have more of the map completed. I didnt have a whole lot to work with since its hardlt even begun, and I also just kind of tossed it together in an hour or so.
Screens below show actual in game screens of the map, which comapre very nicely to the comic versions of you look. The building is not quite done but only wieghs in at 17,867 right now, even with all the detail you see. The screens below are taken in 1920x1080p, on ultra high settings. Even without occlusion, it runs at 40 fps + on my rig. (3.2 core 2 duo, 9800 XLR8 1gb GPU) Upon full completeion, I expect this map to run very very smoothly on nearly any machine, yet still have all the detail you see. (Also, the lighting is barely in place, with lots of fine tuning to do of course.)

Lol you made it look cell shaded! That's Great!
Man i was going to do this back om Predator when i made Fantastic Four Labs. Never did more than a couple of panels on my computer.
I did write a story though.
Cool Kevin keep it coming. The map also looks really cool BTW.
You know, if you plan out your story a little, you could just build some props that can be cloned to make new areas. Never publish the map, just keep making different stuff for your scenes.

I like the originallity you are showing here, really thinking outside the box. This was delightfully refreshing and made me laugh for some time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gifExcellent way to showcase.
may I suggest you pose some characters with some text bubbles around them in the next installment?
Ha haa! So clever... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks guys! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I am already working on a 'real' comic - er graphic novel with the text ballons and all that. I actually had a lot of fun doing that even though it was a quick little experiment.
Also, the map is coming along nicely, I have this problem where I get on a roll and dont want to stop, (call is obseesion, dedication, focus, whatever you want) so I made a lot of progress last night. The main buildig is 85% done, and a lot of the surrounding grounds have been done.
So far the map uses object in a very heavy custom way as well as being used in the traditional sense. So far, by keeping the main building as the focus of the heavy custom work, the map really looks great. The main building looks very much realistic and quite feasible, (on the outside) making the stock outbuildings around blend in nicely. I made sure to have everything looking smooth and not to have anything at all that looked out of place.
So, Ill have some more screens later today, and I will continue to work on my little graphic novel.
Thanks again guys for all the comments, hopefully I can have some more eye candy soon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Ok, I have a bit more done on the ouside, enough to give some screens. The inside is 95% done now, just needs some final touches and lighting.
I decided to make this one a more plausible map than what I had in store. As I was finishing the building, the ouside was looking so much like a regular building that I went with a more realistic exterior element. The interior was not changed from the first screens, it is very heavy custom on the inside. Im saving the real stuff for my next map, which will use the same type of walls but have a very distict feel of its own.
Anyway, heres more screens, no comic yet. After a couple test rounds and some creative playing, ill have the screens I need.

The background is a bit bare still, I did not have it done when I took the screens. Overall, I still have some of the occlusion to do, move the play boundry, all of the multiplayer spawns etc and the things I mentioned earlier. DM and TDM should be very strong, Uprising should be good as well, but CTD i am thinking of turning into some kind of power struggle for the main structure, since the team layout will definitley not be symmetrical. The map is relatively small; it is barely more then a solid sprint no sliding from one end to the other, if you ran straight up the road. Of course, that would probably get you roadkilled since the entire main building can be driven around completely. That can be dangerous as well since thare are 4 small towers that hold .50 cals in each corner of the map, and all have a pretty decent view of the road. 2 of the roads (which just make a square around the building) are lined by fully detailed inside and out structures. (Even grass to burn buurrrnn in the lawn areas)
All in all, with mounted weapons, 6 vehicles (some with weapons) and the overall size of the map, it should have something for everyone. That includes weapon classes as well.

Heres a couple overhead shots, showing the size of the map in relation to the overall given area, as well as a little closer one to show spawns etc. Uprising and CTD should both be a power struggle for the structure, and with 10 points of entry there should be little chance that one team can completely stop the other from infiltrating. (That would involve 2 of the team members covering 2 doorways each even in a full match) Each team also will have a small number of spawns already inside the building.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt144/agent00kevin/FC2Editor2009-06-3008-27-21-01.jpg
The map is nearly complete, much sooner than I expected. This is partly due to the fact that I went more traditional than I originally planned; but the map I planned is still slated to start as soon as this one is done.
Edit: more screens!

Thanks a lot! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I was going to back off of the game for a while, but it seems I just can't do it. I was hoping the comic would also make people want to play the map a bit more than usual too.
I have a bit of a storyline planned out; I used to write a lot back in school but never comics....so every 'issue' should get better. The story from this will definitey tie into my next map as well.
I really appreciate the interest, it makes me want to continue playing FC2 instead of taking a break as I planned before.
