I have a Altec 520, and I can't get my computer to recognize the microphone. Any ideas.

First, goto the WinXP control panel and click on Sound and Audio devices. Under the audio tab you need to make sure your Altec headset set is listed and selected as the default under both the Sound Playback and Sound recording sections.
Then, under the volume tab, put a check box in place volume icon in the taskbar and hit apply. Double click on the volume icon in the taskbar. Goto options and select properties. Under properties, make sure the adjust volume for playback is selected. Put a check in the microphone check box and hit ok. You should see a microphone slider bar now added with a mute checkbox below it. Make sure to uncheck the box.
Also, under the voice tab, hit the test hardware button. It will bring you through a small wizard......good luck....
