Personally I wouldn't want my game to look like those second shots. Some of them are terrible to look at. My 9800XT looks better than those pictures.

Anyway, that said if you have all your game settings to maximum I would think you already have a pretty good looking game, but then I haven't got a 6800 to know what settings it has etc.

I'm getting nothing like the "overbright" on those lights or the extreme pseudo-displacement mapping on the rock surfaces.

This is running with everything on "Highest" in graphics options using the 1.1 patch.

Those pictures are showing off what they can do with PS 3.0 (though they can also be done with PS 2.0) on the new 6800's. These are with a special patch that is no currently available to the rest of us.

Is this patch going to be available in the near future? I just started replaying far cry since I got my new 6800, and I certainly don't want to keep playing if I can eventually get graphics like that out of the game.

If it's not going to be available for awhile (2 weeks or more) I might as well just keep playing without those awesome effects http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

If you read the fine print you will notice the "before" pictures were taken using PS 1.0, not PS 2.0. The difference between PS 2.0 and PS 3.0 is not NEARLY that dramatic.

All the preliminary reports I've read so far indicate that the difference will be minute. However the only way to really know is to wait for the patch to be released and see what the reviews say then.

"The difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is not THAT dramatic?"

Are you kidding me? Have you not seen the Unreal 3 video? That is SM3.0 at its best my friend.

Games this year and next won't nearly be that noticeable but if a developer plans to implement SM3.0, then you WILL notice a difference, or you can have a huge performance hit when SM2.0 tries to use SM3.0.

So wait, let me get this straight... a patch IS coming out that will give me the incredible lighting and displacement mapping that the second web link shows? The first weblink is not that impressive... look at the shots in the second web link in the first post in this thread.

Is this in the 1.2 patch, or is it in some other patch?

AFAIK this will not be included in the 1.2 patch, so keep playing the game and enjoy the graphical goodness already present. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Give it a few months when more people have 6800 cards, then maybe they'll think release one. I'm guessing there wasnt a patch, they just took a few screens or a small section of game & added some PS3 to them. PS3 also requires directX 9.0C so dont expect anything yet.

thats just it tho its only a performance increase due to extra instuctions not a visual one, the extra visuals are a side efect of them having extra fps left over to up the graphics some more, http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif plus the unreal 3 engin is dx9 cards ONLY with no legacy suport. so apart from looking forward to its early 2006 release i would expect it to look that good http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

From what I understand, this game is using PS 1.0, not even 2.0. You probably don't even know what PS 2.0 looks like as games aren't using it yet. I'm also under the understanding that PS 2.0 has nearly every ability that PS 3.0 has and what it lacks can easily be achieved with a little extra programming.

They have No AA in them images, why not?

Thought the 6800 would be able to handle that.

Vey high settings activate PS2. Mainly lighting. Set lighting to very high & you will be using PS2. Cards without PS2 cant use very high lighting (obviously) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

I forgot what forum I read it on, but I understand that those overbright pics from the second link were manually made to look that way. The person who took the screenshots adjusted the lighting effects.

I have seen more pictures from that set which aren't posted at that link. The rest have normal lighting, if I remember correctly.

Man my 9500pro looks better than those shots. Look at the lines on the gun all pixulated like that....
The lighting effects looks kinda photoshopish to me.

No sig for the captain
