View Full Version : A brief run-down of what I think of the units so far

Haven:
http://might-and-magic.ubi.com...res/haven/index.aspx (http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6/en-GB/game/creatures/haven/index.aspx)
Sentinel: Looks cool.
Crossbowman: Stupid name. Boots are too high. Pants look stupid. Giant hood ornament on helmet looks absolutely ridiculous. Helmet visor looks stupid.
Griffin: Looks emaciated.
Seraph: Angels are technically supposed to be genderless. Why have the Angel units dual wield swords? It looks redundant and stupid. Why not have the Angel units use one sword like they did in Heroes 5, 4, and 3? Go look up what the Angel unit looked like in Heroes 5, and then compare it to what Angel units will look like in Heroes 6.
Sister: Looks OK.
Radiant Glory: Stupid name. Doesn't fit in with the theme of Haven. Why a third female unit?
Sun Rider: looks cool.

Inferno:
http://might-and-magic.ubi.com...s/inferno/index.aspx (http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6/en-GB/game/creatures/inferno/index.aspx)
Hellhound: Looks OK, although I don't like the duckbill look. Aren't they supposed to have more in common with dogs?
Juggernaut: Looks cool. I'm not so sure about the name though. It doesn't seem to fit the unit.
Pit Fiend: Looks cool.
Tormentor: Looks stupid. At first glance it sort of reminds me of a murloc form World of Warcraft.
Breeder: Uninspired and stupid name. The unit looks stupid.
Succubus: Looks cool.
Maniac: Uninspired and stupid name. This would be a mediocre looking unit if there weren't gummy worms coming out of his hands.

Necropolis:
http://might-and-magic.ubi.com...ecropolis/index.aspx (http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6/en-GB/game/creatures/necropolis/index.aspx)
Skeleton: Looks stupid. Seriously, how did you guys (Black Hole Entertainment) screw this one up? The helmet makes the unit looks stupid.
Ghoul: Looks pretty cool, but there's something about the eyes that I don't like.
Vampire: This doesn't look like a vampire. It looks like something out of World of Warcraft. What's with the over-the-top armor with green lights (same problem with the skeleton)? It looks stupid.
Lich: This unit would look half-decent if it didn't have bright green legs coming out of its back. As it is now, it looks stupid.
Ghost: Close enough I guess, but again, what's with the green lights/jewelry? It looks stupid.
Lamasu: Looks cool. But what is with the green lights/jewelry? Get rid of it.
Fate Spinner: Stupid name. Boring looking.

Stronghold:
http://might-and-magic.ubi.com...tronghold/index.aspx (http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6/en-GB/game/creatures/stronghold/index.aspx)
Goblin: Cool looking.
Harpy: This would be alright looking if it weren't for the stupid helmet/head.
Centaur: OK looking, but I think this unit would have looked better if it were male.
Dreamwalker: Stupid looking.
Jaguar Warrior: Stupid name. Looks stupid.
Mauler: Looks cool.
Cyclops: Looks cool.

To be short. I think 90% of the creatures are great.
We also have to see what are their animations , maybe a crazy /stupid look is the pretext for some funny/crazy animations.

Personally i wouldn't mind playing Haven but i think it lack 1 strong male unit , big size to balance with the amount of feminine presence this time.

To be short as well, I like the majority of the creatures with few exceptions.

Tormentor is objectively bad looking: a mix of Warcraft and Alien feels really out of place in this game. I've read many opinions that share this point of view; something should be done about him.

Glories and Spring Spirits seem redundant and boring.

On the other hand, some creatures are cooler than ever: Griffin, Cyclop, Harpy and Pit Fiend in particular.

The Sanctuary faction introduced some cool creatures as well: Kirin, Kenshi and Kappa are amazing beyond words!

I wasn't sure about the Vampires' look at first, but after seeing their attack animation I was like: "WOW"! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I agree that the Tormentor is probably the worst looking unit so far - it has no identity and looks too much like the maniac.

I would have to agree on the tormentor, it just looks bad imo. Im also not a fan of the radiant glory, it feels way out of place for the haven faction. I would also prefer a more traditional vampire but I still think he looks good. Overall I think the creatures look great with a few exceptions.

Yeah! To be honest, at first glimpse I actually thought the tormentor was an upgrade of the maniac (or vice versa). The juggernaut seems to be about the same size as well, which is a tad uninspiring considering its name! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yeah inferno looks kinda contraversial(not sure if i typed this word right :P) Becouse on one hand they got most unique new unit in the game(breeder) while on other hand they have 3 very similar units..

Infiltrator-SF
04-03-2011, 05:10 PM
IMHO they should have went with a fragile offensive spell caster type of unit or flying demon unit instead of the tormentor. None of those two are taken so I can't figure out why they needed a 3rd melee fighter in their lineup...

yepp Hell charger,Horned Demon,"Super" imp are only few of possible units, but no they use 3 diffrent versions of h3 horned demon... I have been whining about this whenever it at least partly fited the topic. They really could use another offensive caster as Infiltrator Mentioned counting that Pit Fiend by my guess going to be flyng malee...

blackhole dropped the ball with a fair amount of their unit composition. I feel their adding allot of female units to give it that 'sucker punch' sex appeal, which makes the whole thing corny. on the other hand i agree with pretty much everything they have done game mechanic wise, except for maybe the lack of a TOWN SCREEN :@.

I am trying to keep a very open mind about the new units, because as much as I would like to see some more oldies return, new units will help separate the games from each other a little. With that being said, I can't stand the Fate-Spinner or the Seraph. I don't like the Angels from any of the games except 3. And the Fate-Spinner doesn't even compare to Bone/Ghost/Spectral Dragons or even wraiths and certainly not death knights.

So with only a few months from release, scrap the Seraph, or just put some serious armour and a beard on that girl and replace the Fate-Spinner with a Death Knight.

Im personaly liking the designs of most of the creature (besides radiant glory and sister) and I think that everything will turn out ok in the end.

Necro:

Skeleton: I like the design and spears feels a lot more intimmidating than bows and arrows (especially if you know monty python.

Ghoul: Very nice looking and seems to really embody the fact that it is meant as a tool of war.

Vampire: Arthas back!!! I knew the ****ty ending to his story arc wouldn't keep him from comming back (one way or the other).

Lich: not much to say really.

Ghost: as before not much to say other then its a ghost.

Lamasu: points for thinking outside the box but I have yet to decide if I like the design or not.

Fate spinner: anything is better then bone dragon (sorry but it really was increadibly lame both in terms of effectivness and design).

Stronghold:

Goblin: I like the fact that they now have ranged attacks instead of melee seeing how they were rather useless in the last besides getting sacrificed.

Harpy: not much to say here really other than that the helmet looks nice.

Centaur: not sure about the zebra part at all so Im sceptical here.

Dreamwalker: it fits the mood and the mutated arm reminds me of how their heretige sometimes manifest in rather uncommfortable ways.

Jaguar Warrior: nothing but good things to say about this one really since it embodies both the rage and skill of the orcs (pity it isn't the orks though)

Mauler: its an orc with a shield and a club pretty basic and not very note-worthy.

Cyclops: the upgrade looks cool and the basic one is well basic.

Haven:

Praetorian: anyone else having LOTR flashbacks?

Crossbowman: as so many have pointed out is looks stupid.

Griffin: no problem with it.

Sister: give her some armour and a hammer and im fine with her.

Radiant glory: Why make something were the change of colour is the only difference between the basic and the upgrade and this looks like an unbelivebly lame idea (couldn't we have an assassin instead seeing how they are nobillity it wouldn't be surprising if they had a few).

Sun rider: I must admit having a steed that never tires or slows down (unless the rider commands it) makes the sunrider seem a little more up to par with the rest.

Seraph: 1. Two swords seem much better for flight combat seeing how they are lighter, faster and easier to use in flight (the last part is an assumption)2. I like how the blades symbolises the seraphs dual nature (mercy and judgment). 3 Once again this one is yet another example of a unit with not enough change between the basic and the upgrade.

Inferno:

Maniac: lame but better than imps.

Hellhound: no complaints.

Succubus: I like it.

Juggernaut: it is a ste p forwars from horned deamons.

Breeder: I like the concept of a spawning unit but the design is lame.

Tormentor: you skinned a murlock?

Pit fiend:no complaints.

(Btw I can't see the problem with female units)

So I am going back and taking another look.

I had to laugh at the crossbowman, as I never looked at it close enough before. The "hood ornament" is a tad silly (and that might be a bit kind).

I do like the other units in Haven. The griffon could use a bit of meat but he's ok the way he stands IMO>

ON the inferno topic are you sure you did not mean the maniac with the gummie worms?

I have no problems with the undead or the orcs. This is based on purely physical appraisal of the art.

Nacho

Most of the creature are awesome even the Seraph and radiant glory. I just love the freshness you feel when u see them. I agree with u Cap292 finally separation. But i would add that they did a marvelous job in finding a good ratio between old and new. For the tormentor i have to agree it look normal could be fixed by putting anything that is flying cause it doesn't look like inferno has any unless they have teleporting unit witch i doubt. Can wait to play the game

P.S. creature are awesome they don't need change just hoping balancing is good cause i wish to play every faction especially sanctuary

Overall the only changes i would like to see are:Kill/Destroy/Delete/Banish Radiant Glories and bring swordsman back or create new unit.Unify seraphs blades.Remove Crossbowmans helmet.Realese poor Murlock back to WoW and make new demon unit(not 2 leg walker).Bring Wyverns back,i just loved them ;/.After such changes i would be very satisfited with Heroes 6 units,if not counting some minor complains.

Overly stylised in the anime/WoW way. Surely now we can move onto more realistic graphics rather than this infantile cartoony nonsense? I want troops that look like they're marching to battle not a costume party.

Pretty much I don't like the graphics trend in the game that's going on right now. I'd like to see something drastically distinctive from it. As much different as Heroes 2 and Disciples 2 GFX.

i was referring to creature set vs another creature set balancing (inferno vs sanctuary for example) or else u start at an advantage

hero strength come from player choice and the way of playing the faction according to her pros ans cons add to the player skill (so if your more in brute strength you'll be better playing stronghold than a defensive faction but then again you have player who are good at 2,3 or every way of playing the different faction so u start to see where the diversification come from)

The swamp was in the middle of nowhere not as bad as the 1st 4 but not badass like the last 4.

P.S. the only "good" thing about H2 in terms of balancing is that nobody had capitol so titans and dragons were a pain in the arse while low cost armies (barbarian and knight) could faceroll you at the early stages of the game.

are you serious.
nothing was more imba than undead in huge and impossible maps.
i remember i had town portal with expert earth magic and i could sacrifice countless of units.
even my second or third hero used to have more than 3000 skeletons and only 6 or 7 bone dragons.
and as about stronghold, did you ever try to play them like attackers.
i mean brute strength and resistance.
not to mention cyclops beaking walls in towers.
they were the only town with escape tunnel and had also balista yard (2 war machines).
many times i was able to build behemoths in first weak
they all had their strength and weakness.
i mean have you played heroes at all?

One thing that I've noticed as well is the relatively high number of female units (in comparison to earlier HOMM games?).
Nothing wrong with that as a fact though, IMHO, just thought it was worth pointing up.

Overall I really like the creatures of HOMM6 thus far (with a few exceptions of course).

My thoughts:

For the most part, I find most of the creatures to be acceptable to good; if they fall in that range I give no further comment here. In addition, I'm going to need to see the in game animations to really decide, and in a couple cases it'll make or break the model for me.

Necropolis:
Lose the green. Please?
Love the skeletons having spears, the ghosts look very good, and nice to see something new in the lamasu.
Fate Spinner I think looks good, it's 132 times better than a bone dragon (by actual count!). I also like how it fits in lore-wise, and have high hopes that the animation could be something special.

Inferno (a.k.a. the always underpowered team I hate to love!):

Succubi, Pit Fiends, and Breeders all look awesome to me, and I'm fine with all the others (yes, even the tormentor). Although with someone saying 'murloc' now I'm going to have a hard time not hearing that sound in my head when I look at them.

Haven:
The hood ornament cap has to go. Unlike some, I love the dual wield for the Seraph. I will however join in the near universal panning of the glories.

Sanctuary:
Been a fan of Naga since I first read the D&D Monster Manual. The H3 Fortress was my favorite castle of the series, and this feels a bit like a spiritual successor with the water theme. Combine the two, and you have the faction I'm guaranteed to play first.

Mostly though, I'm just okay with the pictures I've seen, other than the Kensei and Kirin which look sweet. A lot of the others though fall into that category of looking alright and I'm hoping the animations make me fall in love.

Stronghold:
Best for last, I think the Stronghold looks great all-around. My only complaint is that I like the white harpy much better than the green and since green is second pic, I'm assuming that's the upgrade and I'll be seeing it more often.

Now, how 'bout starting up that Beta so I can see these animations in action?

BlueLore

Haven:
I think the haven units are ok,sure the decoration of some armors are a little bit over the top,but it doesn't bother me,the angels are also ok,the only unit I don't like is the glory because it is just invented.

Necropolis:
I think they are ok,I don't know what you all have against the green, i think it looks good, but I think the liches don't look as cool as in H5,but still ok

Stronghold:
Looks really good, the only one I don't like are the pantherwarriors as they are just stronger orcs, they should have made ogres or trolls for this

Inferno:
Well the units themselves are ok,but I don't like it,that they invented so many demons....

sanctuary:
looks good in my opinion but I think they could have made other units instead for the mizu kami and the shark warriors.

I totally agree about all the negative stuff regarding the glories, they do feel a bit out of place and uninteresting. Same with the Tormentor.

Most of the units look pretty cool thoughwith some of them being absolutely amazing (Jaguar Warriors, Cyclops, Kenshi, Lamasu, Pit Fiend, Sentinel).
