After Rescue scenario, game resets

It resets me back to starting the Elven campaign, like I didn't just complete the first three missions.

This happens when I hit the continue button at the end of the Rescue scenario, it dumps me to the first level of the campaign.

I completed it with a complete map clear and freed the underground hero pretty much last thing. Okay, precisely the last thing.

I've got patch 1.5 on and HoF is installed on my computer. Any suggestions for not replaying the thing over? I've got a few saves and can go back and do things differently, say, free the heroes before completing the garrison objective. Just got to not hire those pesky unicorns.

FWIW, UBI tech support responded quite quickly that this usually happens because we had virus protection running while we installed the patch. So uninstall, turn everything off, then reinstall and apply each patch in order with virus protection off. So I'm going to give that a try.
