<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> There will be many differences between versions, as the platforms themselves are different. For instance, if you take into account that you control your soldier with a keyboard and a mouse rather than with a pad, you know that you will shoot faster and more accurately. For us, that means that we have to adapt the level design (offer more covers), the camera system (immersive first person view), the difficulty (enemies are more challenging)… Basically nearly all areas of the game have to be adapted just considering this simple fact.
In the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighterâ"ž˘, we will develop the tactical aspect further than in the other versions, because this approach best fits this platform, and we know that all Ghost Recon fans are expecting to be able to plan their team’s actions on the battlefield.
That’s why we are implementing exclusive features for the Tactical Map of the game. With this tool, the planning phase can now happen at anytime in the game (at least when you’re safe enough!). That also means that you’ll be able to change your plans if things do not go as planned, just like real soldiers do. We feel this is an ideal balance between strategy and improvisation.
Also the PC version will provide many other improvements and tweaks to make it fit the expectations of our audience.

This sounds very promising, lets hope it can be delivered http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"We are still debating many aspects of the game, and the opinions expressed by the fans are always taken in consideration. For example on Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2, feedbacks from the PC community revealed that the “Over the shoulder” view was not appreciated. So on the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighterâ"ž˘, we decided to stick to a first person view during the whole game."

This is what caught my eye. Just whets the appetite for more.

Everything sounds great so far, my only concern right now is that they said specifically DVD-ROM, they will release a CD-ROM version right? But that is nothing major.

Ok, so there are hints of returning the command map, and including more "tactical options" in the maps. Now we just need to get them to declutter the HUD, ensure that we can switch bodies, and give us 3-squads and everything will be cool (e.g. GR classic will be reborn http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif )
Fingers are crossed (and toes, etc.)

Sounds pretty sweet so far. They got rid of the g*y over-the-shoulder view. They said first person. I hope they mean the old first person with just the aiming reticle. This is great. Our posts are starting to pay off. I hope the stupid console gamers get the over-the-shoulder view. I'd laugh me bum off cause they'd have to buy one of the new consoles and the new GR just to have it like GR2 again(which I hated. Congrats guys. Lets just hope they go back to the old map, squads of three, and being able to change your guys.

Most of are really good news, it's great to receive some official word from them.
I guess my hopes will hold on for a little longer... I just wish they'd give more specific info on the gameplay. So since they're actually reading, as they said, I'll make my little points:
- If you guys haven't done yet, please forget the 4-men squad - I'd affirm that pretty much the whole community would love to have the 6-men squad back (8 would be even better) and the ability to split that up in at least 2 fireteams.
- How open will the mission design be? Will we be restricted to urban scenarios with just a few approaches to the objectives? The gameplay needs to be at least as open as GR1, otherwise it's just not gonna be the same thing - unless, of course, you compensate it with something worth the trade.
- Don't take it that far to the future. More technology means less thinking, more fighting, and less recon. It's preferable to do the shooting and reconnaisance ourselves, with our own eyes. I do think that deploying and controlling drones to gain intel could be a lot of fun, but if that's going to be included, don't automatize it too much; let us take control of the thing.
There you go, my thoughts. Apart from these, I'm really glad about what I've read on this official release, and so far it's good stuff.
Keep us informed! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I really liked the pc interview. Lots of good news. After watching the 15mb E3 video, I had written that if the planning and tactical elements are present, GR3 seems to have the potential to be revolutionery, as far as gameplay, AI, graphics, physics and immersion are concerned. It now seems that maybe my dream will come true.

I could almost cry. But they would be happy tears. So sweet. First person only? It cant get TOO much better than that. That was one of the key features in the old GR that sold me on the game. If they listened to most of our comments, I dont see why they cant just make it like the good ol' days. This has given me much faith. I know I already said all this but I cant get over it. Just awesome. 2 squads of three maybe? Huh huh?

Man I can't belive it FINALLY coming. I gotta say, after being faked out by GR2, I almost feel entitled to this game. But on to a serious question.
Will GR3 feature the same trojan horse that splinter cell CT does? And if so, will it be compatible with windows XP 64 bit version?

While I can't return SHIII, I did have returned SC:CT because of Starforce. I barely looked at the package. I got Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 instead. That is a really big hint Ubi, do not use it or you may suffer sales because of it.
I have to wonder who asked the questions about who asked the questions for the interview. It almost seems if the questions were bastardized from questions we had asked here and at GR.net.
apollo104
07-10-2005, 05:07 AM
The questions were canned. I'd love to see a community member interview a developer on AIM, or make an interview thread and give like 3 or 4 ppl the right to post in it and GRIN replies there.
But UBI wont let that happen since GRIN signed a NDA when development started.

It would be great, and rather hilarious if we could connect to the same servers as, and therefore play against XBOX users... Although this won't happen because of differences in the games on the platforms it's still a funny thought...
Also I wonder if I will be able to install one copy on both my bro's computer and mine so we can play LAN? That really, really let RvS down, the fact that it was so strict with PB and cd key checking and all that. It would be great if they did that on the net, but not on LAN. Cos there's no way in hell I would ever buy buy 2 copies of RvS, and this game will have to live up to the hype if I am to consider buying multiple copies...

Don't count on being able to use one disk for LAN play. If Ubi sticks to current policies, they will be using Starforce for copyright protection and you will need 2 phyisical disks to play.

If such a PC vs PS2 online system debuted for a FPS, you would see an emergence of "PS2" only servers because of the kiddies losing 24/7 to the superior PC gamers. The beatings they would take would threaten to kill the game for PS2/XBOX.

Well, AFAIK if the game checks the disk only on startup, then you can launch the program on one PC, and then use the same disk to start it on an other PC. Some folks did this with SCCT, I heard...

I really hope there's a "Steam" type licensing scheme as an option :/
WhiteKnight77

There are demos out that are Starforce protected, that are downloaded. Even a Steam type download could be protected with SF. Unfortunately, I don't see it's use decreasing.

Well im a PC gamer and i dont find miself "superior" to anyone else, its obvious that the PC interface works better for FPS games but please try not to embarass your fellow PC gamers by ofending the console crowd http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif.

if Ubi wants to install starforce without us knowing we better get the game for free.
Pc gamers have more aiming abilities and can use more commands at ease compared to console gamers. Only a very seasoned and skilled (or lifeless) console gamer can master the controls of a console game the way most good PC gamers do(im not talking about people who can actually kill stuff, i mean the guys who just own.)
apollo104
08-01-2005, 09:53 PM
Alex, I was hoping most people would understand that I was being intentionally brash with that post. PC gamers are not any better than console gamers. We just happen to own more.
And the day that someone can prove themselves to be one fo the best with a console controller AMONG the PC crowd is the day that I swallow the blue pill and enter the matrix. (or was it the red one? Oh well I'll just take both.)
But as a PC gamer, I have no objection to PC gamers being able to play side by side and vs. console gamers.

LOL we know u were only joking but PC vs console I think I know who would win in a matchup... We would still own them

Not only that, but think of the resolution advantage. Go play OGR, and play on the Ghost Town Clear map, try it on 640x480, and then on 1600x1200. The higher resolution that a monitor provides over a television is immense. Until that, and the input control hurdle is passed, you won't find Console vs. PC FPS on the market anytime soon.

Been a long time since I checked the forums here, basically because I was super upset (how ever sad that may be) about the cancellation of GR2 for the pc.
I like what I am reading here, as it seems they are returning to some of the things that made the original such an awesome game.
My question is simply WHEN. I have looked everywhere, I might be blind, and I am certainly stupid. But endulge me. Anyone know WHEN the planned release is? And if you don't know, take a guess. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

So that would not be relevant to the PC version.
