Please note that this thread is about a clearly identified issue that keeps some users (esp. from Australia) from creating/activating their multiplayer profile.
Unfortunately this leads to the "server unavailable" message which is also displayed for general connection issues.
The workaround for this problem is to log into the MyRealm (http://www.thesettlers.com/myrealm) site once - approximately one hour later your account should be "unlocked".

If your problem does not precisely fit this description it is most likely a different issue!
You can find some general hints on connection problems here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3601083258/m/4651055548) - if that does not solve your problem you should get into contact with our support (http://support.ubi.com/) or post your problems in this forum (preferably in this order).

I will close this thread soon, when the workaround mentioned above is no longer needed.

since the problem seems to have disappeared for some of the affected players I'd like to have an up-to-date overview.

If you have never been able to start the game due to the "Server not available" message right after the initial loading screen please post:

1. Your account name (as entered in the UGL)
2. Your location & ISP
3. How you purchased the game (Steam, retail...)
4. Time of your last login attempt (ie last game start)

UPDATE:
We have tracked down the issue - it's a problem that occurs when linking your keys to the multiplayer profile.
Ubisoft GNS and TG-OPS are currently working on a solution - I'll keep you updated.

If this has solved the problem for you (sometime last week) we'd appreciate a short notice.

I can get past the loading screen, however no matter what game mode I select (campaign, quick start single player, multiplayer, etc) as soon as the map loads I get an attempting to establish network connection error.
All birds/settlers/etc are motionless in the menu and in the map.

my brother reports he got it to work by reinstalling and then forcing it to patch - steam doesn't display that there was a patch, so maybe this is an issue?

Looks like this is an issue of Digital downloads (and being in odd countries..)

Suggested solution: Provide a manual patch.

THIS REALLY DOES WORK, Just tested it with me and my brother's account and it's fine.

Seriously, this works for the Australian "Server not found" error.

I can probably now do it for others...

NEVER EVER give out your ACCOUNT details to ANYONE you don't trust fully.

Will try again a bit later, as it seems i have to do a total reinstall, the game won't load at all now, just gives a Game Launcher error (missing parameters/Unable to launch)

I got the server not available first 2 tries, was able to play few times for a few hours after that, then server not available since that same night. Have tried many, many times over the past few days to no avail.

After changing my UGL password, I now have the same server unavailable message directly after the girl on the horse screen as most others have.
Last login attempt: 5 minutes ago (0957am AEDT)

Guys yesterday when I tryed to start the game it said it for the first time too. I was like NO!.. I continued to log in for about 4 hours every 15 mins. nothing...

Then I started the game but clicked logout in the little window that pops up. Logged in again and started it. It solved the problem. I belive it would have continued with the "Server not avalible" message if I didn't relog in the pop up window. That's why I thought I would post here, it relates. If that same thing would have happened to me the first time I would properly never have been able to log in.

It Happened to me this morning again, did same thing, relogging and it stopped saying it.

Thats just a hit and miss coincidence http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif logging out and back in does nothing but restart the syncing process.

How do you know it wouldn't have proceeded with the server not available bit if you didn't let it.

as for the port forwarding bit, that should not be required except in extreme cases, 99% of software will do it for you. opening ports did nothing for this game, maybe it is one less thing thats part of the total issue but it is not a fix

Im the US, in West Virginia

I have a Hughs Net connection.

The game is installed on my New mac, software updated all the works

I still cannot get it to go past server unavailable at all.

Iv had the game for a few days now without it ever working. Im about to try putting on the old black eye patch at this point. If folks know what that means.

Iv paid for something that does not work so at all. First and last time I buy from this company again.

Another long time customer is now lost.

EDIT: As of around 10 p.m., I managed to log in after many many repeated tries. Since then, it's worked intermittently. I have no idea what triggers it to work, but I can get in maybe once every five tries. Before this, I have not ever been able to get past the usual message.

MY GAME WORKS!

OK this seems totally f'ing random to me so idk if BB fixed it or what but:

I was playing around with my WINDOWS Firewall and noticed 2 things:

1 - I had previously (a long time ago) UNTICKED the exception for remote desktop

2 - My torrent program had sucked up a services port at 22323

So I tick the exception for RD and untick the services port on my lan settings (in firewall/advanced) that the torrent program was using.

(OK at this point I was desperate and changing things at random)

So I log in to S7 and BAM.... the DAMN THING WORKS!.. started a mission everything...

AGAIN - this seems totally random to me.

.....but my game is working... if it stays connected for a decent amount of time I will be happy but this is the first time I have EVER been able to start a game.

I've bought installed and updated this game all of which has taken far longer then should really be neccessary.

I finally managed to sit back in my chair and having had to locate the game because no desktop icon is created, I have to endure a Server not Available message.

This game is going to have to improve to be worth the effort so far.

OK, I am no tech head, so I seriously do not know whats going on, However....
I bought the game on Saturday, have not been able to play it at all. I am consistantly getting the Cannot connect to server box.
I have a wireless router at home, a belkin one.
Today I decided to bring my laptop to work, the laptop i loaded the game on to. Connected to the internet through the cable i have on my desk and low and behold, the thing works! What the hell? Like I said, I have no technical knowledge but it could be a router issue. I know all the trouble shooting BS...serioously have no idea how to do it. Along with that, it seems some people have trouble the router/hard line change over with no effect.
Anyway, i wish i could play this at work but alas, unfortunately work do not pay me to play games all day.
Anyway, just thought i would post this up and see if anybody else has had tried it with success.

Definately a "routing" issue, just not a specific router on end user.

I have a D-Link wireless router, i only use for convenience hacing a PS3, Laptop and my mobile all needing use of the net randomly aswell as my desktop thats connected most of the day. I thought of that router possibility and connected straight to my cable modem via ethernet cable to desktop, which had absolutley positively . ........ No effect other than my PC's internet wasn't running through the router.

I've really been trying to get the game to fail again... it seems that all of a sudden I have a completely stable, working game.

This still seems totally f'ing random.... it doesn't make sense that any of the changes I made at the time it worked should have had any effect but here I am 4th mission into the thing and thats after multiple restarts and putting some moderate load on my connection.

the 3 things I did before it started working:

- opened up a udp in/out port on my router between 21000 - 29999

- enable exception in WINDOWS firewall fore Remote Desktop

- Disabled my torrent app SERVICES port in WINDOWS firewall/advanced/settings (on the firewalled connection)

Again, I have no idea why any of this might have worked because it doesn't make sense to my feeble mind. But I'm playing and before I have never been able to log on...

GL all... i hope everybody gets to play ASAP...

We have tracked down the issue - it's a problem that occurs when linking your keys to the multiplayer profile.
Ubisoft GNS and TG-OPS are currently working on a solution - I'll keep you updated.

I am using FIREFOX browser and can no longer access the forums using that browser - we have switched our default to IE but this was after installation of game - is it possible that Firefox is causing the problem? My other theory was that if might be happening to those who had existing log ins with UBIsoft before registering the Settlers7 game - if this was causing the conflict - but looking at Reg data on the forum this doesn't seem to be the case? I just realised that my reg data is the date I registerd the game and not when I joined UBIsoft - but others have dates that are years ago.

Don't think it's a browser causing woes, other than viewing these forums. I had to go the other way around. the forums on IE wouldn't display and function properly. Firefox they work alot better

There is something that may well be linked to everything else though, the ubisoft site in general keeps telling me often im not logged in when i goto post or click on links, but then sais i im already logged in and to log out and back in again only to get a System Error page half the time.

I think it all as to do with wireless computers.
I installed the game in a desktop and it works fine.
If this is correct it has to do with the router's firewall.

Why is it 6 days after release of this game in Australia we are still not able to play this game??? This is ***king bull***t.

There is no official word from Ubisoft as to why the problem is and what is being done to fisx this. The only responses I have seen floating around the internet are, "we are aware of the problem and we are looking in to it"...........sorry but thats not ***king good enough.

Why is it we cannot even play a single player game, that in theory shouldnt require an internet connection.

It would be nice to have some answers real soon and also a patch so that you dont have to connect to the servers.

I've always been a big fan of Settlers and I did have problems with Settlers 6, I should of taken that as a sign and not bothered to waste my money on Settlers 7. If and when I am able to play this game I doubt I will be able to enjoy knowing that I have wasted 6 days of trying to get the game to work and going through forum after forum trying to find answers when all I should be able to do is go to the Ubisoft website and see some kind of official word as to what the problem is.

I wonder how many other Australians there are out there that are as frustrated and fed up as I am.......

Well, I contacted the French ubi support yesterday. After asking me a lot about my network settings, they eventually asked for my CD key and my login. I don't know if they did something with that or if they are working on their servers but now it just works, both on mac and pc.

Good luck to you all, I hope you'll be all able to play soon.

I won't complain about ubi support because I had the game yesterday, and I waited less than a day for it to work (although i'd have appreciate not to wait at all). They were quick and correct to me.

However I understand fully the growing anger here on this forum.

Nope, i did the non wireless route connected straight to cable modem and had no effect.

It's an issue relating to linking our keys with our multiplayer profiles, has nothing to do with our end.

That doesn't cover the rest of the crap that will happen when we even get into the game, but the connection issue is that.

BB_Firefox already pretty much admitted it's an issue on there end.

I had a similar problem - "Server not available" message. I checked logs on my D-Link wireless router and it showed, that several connections bounced off when I tried to launch Settlers 7.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but if you have a D-Link router you may want to try to set a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in the Advanced tab. Just mark Enabled, type in the address of your computer and click Save Settings. It worked for me. Now I can play the game.

Seriously I'm very ****ed!

I bought the game on Saturday and I haven't been able to play for more than 20-30 mins due to server problems, newwork screwups and game simply crashing!

Same story with Silent Hunter 5 - not only a ****-poor game (rushed out of development at least 6 months before completion, DRM practically didn't let me play it)! And if you don't believe me, have a look at gamespot.co.uk - they got 5/10 for that poor excuse of a game!

So in 2 weeks Ubi stole £60 from me. Considering how many people complained, I think they finally managed to bury their company. With all the excuses in the world, if I pulled such a stunt at work I'd find myself out of a job and the company in a potentially endless litigation suit.

I think by trying to avoid a few desperate kids trying you poor excuse of a game out of a torrent site, you actually managed to get paying customers out for good. I am not wasting a dime on your products (and I dont' care how many "we're terribly sory" emails I get from you. I'm sorry but you screwed this one up beyond repair!

PS:
Sincere advice: put up a patch within 24hr that would eliminate this imbecile continous DRM idea. Lots of people have lawyers in their families and this is a time when any business is good business.

Strange things are indeed happening, but tried disabling the firewall and suddenly the game loads. Turned on the firewall again and it still worked. Could just have been a temporary glith with the servers or turning off firewall did the trick.

Why is the game auto disconnecting me from the internet? thats whats happening from the event viewer, the game launchers and then terminates my internet connection, then says can't connect to servers.

The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control.

I don't want to show off as a cocky smart ***,but have you tried to send a ticket to ubi support?

Apparently a lot of you claim that ubi UK doesn't reply. Try to write in English at the French support. Why the French? Because Ubi is a French company and has a lot more infrastructures in France than elsewhere. You have to act as an idiot, like "well I don't understand, the game doesn't work for 6 days now", don't speak about DRM, don't be aggressive, because not answering to an angry customer is something, but not answering to a polite customer who is needing for help is not affordable for a company.

Send them a readable scan of your keycode and your login (don't give them your password they don't need it). That's what they asked me and now it works, even though i have to log off/log in a couple of time before the game actually launches itself.

Have a look at the screenshot, it took me 9 min to get an answer.

It really all depends on your router. Most (all?) have various web page config screens to do this. You either need the manual for your router (usually the 'modem' but being an internet user for 20 years, I associate modem to analog modems, the 'dial up' ones as they do modulating, de modulating hence modem. Usually your router/'modem' has 'firewall' or 'ethernet' or 'packet' (both followed by the word 'filter', so packet filter or ethernet filter, or even firewall. Many ways this is named) in a config screen. The IP of my 'modem' is 192.168.1.1 so I go to http://192.168.1.1 (http://192.168.1.11) and find the relevant screen. I'm in too much pain to type any more concise due to said pain and typing not going hand in hand (also pain + fuzzy mind kicks in too!)

And then you need to enable 'UDP' in the relevant section and the port range (21000 - 29999), no need for 'external IP', internal IP is the IP of your computer. If you don't know, the instructions are 'load up command shell, type 'ipconfig' and find your IP)

Maybe google "port forwarding" and the type of router/modem you have to see if you can see exact help for your relevant router.

Same result as the poster above, new login screen and music is nice, but still server not available (although i've heard the music before as i have the collectors edition and the soundtrack was all i could use ;P )

With one startup attempt however, clicking exit to desktop took me to a half-formed menu with only quickstart (swords crossed icon) showing up, no other icons, no menu at bottom right. OK Seems like i've got a new bug for the latest 1.02 patch,

If you click the "Exit to Desktop" button during the start of the opening video, you wont exit the game. Instead, you'll go to the menu. Except there is only a crossed-swords button in the top left-hand corner - "Play single player game immediately" or something to that effect.

When i click that button, the game crashes.

UBISOFT please give us the option to play this game offline, we payed $50.00 for a reason, or at least have a HUGE disclaimer on the front of the game saying ONLINE PLAY ONLY!.

I bought battlefield 2: bad company last week and same thing their servers have been offline for 3 weeks to the point where i dont even load the game anymore, now i bought Settlers to find out its worse i cant even play the game solo unlike BFBC, i cant play at all.

Really aggravated that a campaign game im actually enoying playing for the first time, forces me to have a online connection or be connected to a server to play! WTF! really?

this is not a MMO which relies on others for entertainment, at least the campaign mode isnt.

for what its worth The game is a great game, havent played a strategy game like it in a long time even all of the other settlers.

Why do you all even botther buying a game from Ubi that has this type of DRM in it? Personally I will never buy any game that forces me to be on line to play a single player game. so I say you guys are getting what you deserve. You knew this DRM was in the game and would cause issues. If you didnt then you didnt do your homework.

Still no love 6 days after purchase, all the new patch added was a few extra buttons and extra loading time

If you click on exit to desktop however the game goes to a screen with the option to play single player, but that button leads to a Crash to Desktop.
