I took the tutorial on how to get rid of the white background in Gimp on simers paint shop. I used the P51 void but it did not look anyhting like what the tuorial said it would be. It looked just like what i started with. I did it twice and followed evrything said so why did it not work?

Did you put the white backround behind the remove-whited layer? If so, it'll look the same, BUT!! all you're left with on the layer (not the white backround one) is panel lines, rivets, the whole shebang (albeit not white).

yes i made the the second layer i used bucket fill white and filled it then i moved it behind the Void wich all whit was removed and it was covered in a checkered patern and yet still everything was the same as if i went and took the void file again and put it on top of hat 1, they were totally the same. not like on the 1 in the tuorial where the outer parts where grey and the rivits and stuff white, evrything was whitw with the rivets showing, just like a void.bmp.

Yes, it's supposed to look like that. The only difference between the new file and the old void is that the rivets, panel lines, and other mechanical stuff is separate from the white backround. Now you can paint, weather, dent, or pimp out yo ride without covering up or damaging said rivets, panel lines, and mechanical stuff.

Hi Hawk, sorry I didn't see your question earlier.

I think what you are referring to as the grey part is the part of the skin that falls outside of the actual fuselage or wing area?
The A6M void I used in the example for the tutorial was grey in those areas from the beginning. (I hadn't thought of that at the time I made the tutorial) Unfortunately, the P51 is white all over with no exact indication of where the edges of the different pieces are. Removing white won't help to create different colours to help with this.
About all you can do is apply your paint (above the white background layer you made, but under the void layer) and then put the skin into the game and see where you end up. You could also take a look at some skins to use as a guide to see where certain items line up.

Hope this helps you sort everything out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes it does thanks, just 1 more question, do i have to fill in all the white on a void, or just paint the parts of the plane such as the wings fuselage and what not or does everybit of white hvae to be painted.

Not all the bits of the skin actually map for anything. In some skins, like the Mig-3, the non-mapping area is quite big, in others, every nook and cranny of the skin file is filled up with inconsequential bits (like the Gladiator). Some parts can't be painted, like the propeller hub in the P-47.

All the white fields you can se in this picture are non-mapping parts of the skin:

In some ready made templates there's a layer called "Mask" or "Whiteout" or somesuch. These layers show what parts of the skin file do not show up in game.

If I may be so bold, I will recommend downloading Nightshifters and mine Gladiator template, to give you an idea of how it works:

Ok downlaoding it now, the thing is it seems that the ready made downlaod templates have paint already on them so how can i create my own when the paitn is already done. I know i can juts paint over it but since the weathering and camo is alreayd done its not really my own creation, i wish the voids were done beter.
