Yet another post about crash at [Central Hall] (Slaughter House)

Hiya, I'm aware of the other posts on the board about the following issue:

When I'm in the Slaughter House and am in the Central Hall where you face off against 3 robots (which you can use to disble 3 energy barriers) I do not receive a key for defeating them AND and cannot leave the room without the game crashing to windows.

I AM using patch 1.01 and have exhausted all feasable hardware troubleshooting methods that I could think of (that was BEFORE I came to these forums).

I'm starting yet another thread about this in the hopes that the message will get across that this needs to be address. I even tried the "hack" that was mentioned in another thread that gives you the second key but the game still crashes when I have to backtrack and go through the hallway again.

I've ascertained from the various postings that the solution that will probably work is to reinstall the game and not use the new patch (I'm NOT reformatting my system like one of the board admins suggested. I'm mortified that THAT is considered viable tech support).

This is not a solution that I'm too happy with considering I'm 7 hours into the game and took the time to catalog every animal possible and pick up all the extra pearls and such.

What I'd like to see (if anything) is possibly a quick little utility that could revert your 1.01 save files to 1.0 (which possibly could form a solution to this problem).

I know that I'm not the only one with this issue as there's been a number of posts here as well as various other boards on the internet. By doing the math and figuring that "common users" don't generally go online to try to solve their problems (they just return their software to the store they bought it from) you'd have to assume that this problem is fairly widespread...or maybe just for AMD users.

system specs:
AMD Athlon 2100+
Windows XP
512 Megs Ram
Geforce 4 4800 TI 128 Megs
40 gig 7200 rpm hard drive
MSI (via) motherboard

Its not only for AMD users. I'm running on a Pentium III and the stupid key is also stuck in the ceiling.

anyone know when a quick fix or patch will be released to fix this problem. i know myself and all of you would like to continue off of our save game but cant. i was stupid enough to keep only one savegame, instead of multiples, so i either restart the entire game, get someone elses(but its not mine, different progress, its not my own http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ) or wait for a patch. i myself would wait for a patch if it is being worked on....is it? i tried the 2key patch, and that works to get to the next picture, but i still crash when leaving the room. Patch?

I used rahly's save game patcher and it worked for me, so maybe you should consider doing the same? I've pasted his post below.

This Patch works GREAT,i got 2 keys and take my last pic ! BUT i am not able to leave the 3rr(when i am finshed with the tasks behind the "3rr")to go the ramp up to the room just before the "3rr", as i wasnt able before. the game just shuts down (no errormsg or something else). i can load the savegame normally and when i head in the direction to leave the "3rr" the game crashes. and it did crash also before applying the patch. now what? i cant go on...(((( btw 3rr = 3 robots room /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

After you've taken the picture you should save your game again at the reader where the game crashes. Then exit the game and use rahly's program to "swap" your save game file.

btw, the fix works, I as in the situation that I saved in the room after I already took out the robots and didn't get the key and didn't know until after I saved that the key was supposed to drop.

If you are in that situation, use the fix, it works, and yes, you MUST swap, continuing to play without swapping only results in a crash. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
