I am putting together a list of questions and issues to send to the developers and brand managers. There ARE people from Ubisoft reading these forums but it's hard for every need to be met. I volunteered to help get your questions to the right people. I would really like to help all of you be heard.
If you have a question you can reply to this thread and I will add it to the bunch. Or you can reply to this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5691026098/m/2711095598)

Event Questions</a>
When will we see an event on the website? Is there a specific date we can look for when we will be able to “subscribe to and event” to unlock the achievement?
We apologize for the Events section delay and for the Your Shape Center issues, but promise that we are listening to your feedback and working hard to get all issues resolved. Our development team is currently working on resolving the web caching and leaderboard issues, and getting the Events section live. We hope to have everything resolved this March. Thanks for your patience, and we’ll keep you updated.

Calories</a>
How does the game calculate the calories I’m burning?
The calories burned counter depends on different parameters: your weight, your age, the routines you’ve performed and the duration of the exercise. Your body naturally burns calories even when you are still (since it is actively keeping you alive). Your Shape tracks 3 different states: idle, active and very active. For example, if you’re just standing still during a workout, the game tracks you as idle and counts the calories for that idle state, giving you a much lower calories burned score than if you were actively moving during the exercise.
Movements Not Registering (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5691026098/m/9501031909)
Some players are having problem with the game registering their movements.
This could be a Kinect tracking issue. First off, it’s important to make sure you have properly set up the Kinect device taking into consideration distance, space and the amount of light in the room. Make sure your avatar appears in the dedicated work out zone and that you don’t stray from this area during workouts. Another thing to remember is that rhythm is important. If you are not in rhythm with the movements you won’t get the full reward.
"I’m having a hard time staying ‘in rhythm’ do you have any suggestions as to how I can improve my score?"
There are different levels of difficulty. When you start a routine, it starts slowly then builds up to more difficult levels. It’s important to be sure you are in rhythm with the slower levels of difficulty before switching to a faster routine. Through continued practice you will get stronger and have an easier time staying in rhythm.

The biggest problem is when you want to change programs and the lack of saving what you've already done. Having to start over from scratch is a dealbreaker.
I would also like to see less repetitions of the same exact movements within the workouts. For example the NIVEA Work Your Body workout has way too many reps of lunges during the course of the 15 minutes. There's little variety for the first exercise.

Please have them look into the poor calorie expenditure calculation. I'm a male in my 40's and weigh 185 and am 6'2". After doing 28 minutes of Cardio Racer, the game reports 150 calories burned which is ridiculously low. My Polar heart rate monitor with the exact same information about me (age, weight etc) shows upwards of 350. Even my treadmill calculates more accurately than this game and it also only asks for weight and age. If I were working out and worked as hard as I did during Cardio Racer and believed after 28 minutes I only burned 150 calories, I would never do it again...it would be too demoralizing and would not motivate me to keep going.

The zen class refuses to recognize any sort of squat movement. I know it's not the Kinect sensor because Your Shape will recognize squats outside of the Zen class. The class is very much *less* Zen due to all the effort needed to get the sensor to recognize these Zen class movements. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Also, the voice in the physical training sessions is always fussing that legs aren't far enough apart. They seem to need to be nearly twice as far apart as the trainer to get the sensor to recognize a "correct" stance during some exercises.

Agreed, it seems you have to do the splits to be recognised as a wide enough stance. I hope this gets fixed. I wondered, could it have to do with the kinect sensor not being mounted on top of my television but at a lower level???? Maybe the program expects a different angle??? Do you have the sensor at eye level ?????

If I promise to buy the DLC, will Ubi promise to patch the game?
Is there any evidence that Ubi is listening to our concerns?

Yes, I also find it strange that already there are new packs out to buy for this game and such a basic task as save the progress from the different programs aren't there.
That is just amazing, the priority should be patching this which in all honesty is a basica functionality before coming out with more patches asking the people that expected this functionality and paid for it for more money.
All I see in all of the forum posts as well, is we are listening etc not a single answer.
How hard is it for someone from Ubisoft to come back with an answer? Things like this with the user base starting to review and getting fed up is going to cost you more than you gain by ignoring your customer base.

My sensor is at about shoulder or neck level, so fairly close to the head. I was kind of wondering if maybe I put the sensor at foot level, it would figure out what a "shoulder width" stance is. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It is very common for new DLC to be available right after a game is launched. YS:FE is no different in launching new DLC than any other new title.
As to the bugs and game related issues mentioned in this forum, that is also very common for a new release. Especially for a game that didn't have any way to beta test. I can think of many other games that go through this same process after launch. Every question and post in this forum has been brought to the attention of the developer's and brand managers. Patches take time. That is if they find patches are needed. Every problem has to be tested and tested. If it is a problem that persists then they will figure out a way to patch it.
Not all customers are going to experience problems. This forum represents a small number of people having issues. (I have not experience any of these problems while playing the game, nor have any of my friends)
However, I do expect to hear back from them regarding all the issues, questions, suggestions and feedback listed in these threads. These Forums were set up for this very purpose. Just be patient.

This is interesting.
I already started Biggest looser and forget Your shape because i dint want loose my calories heard to make my legs wider and repeat boring excercises.
Only my costumer pride keeps me here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But if you really not repeating boring excercises and not loosing calories and your legs enough wide than i am happy to start to test Your shape paralel with biggest looser http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But if I will lose calories and i repeating same excercise every day than I will come back and I will write the longest positive review of biggest looser here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
(or do you think I should wait for the patch???)

Spectra,
I disagree with you on the bugs and glitches on new games. I have over 50 Xbox 360 games that were new at some point, and can count on one hand, much less 3 fingers that have had issues...this is one of those games.
When you say this game couldn't be beta tested...are you saying Microsoft didn't give the Ubi developers any Kinect units, or Kinect simulation devices to build their game around? If that's the case, then shame on MS for not giving developers what they need to create games for this device.
Don't get me wrong here, I feel for the position you're in here. I haven't figured out yet if you are an official Ubi rep, or someone who just cares enough about the game to give your time to the board as a moderator or go between. I've done the later and we should all be thankful here that people are taking time to compile concerns and forward them on.
My own experience with this device is that it's downfall is that it is TOO sensitive and tracking TOO much information. A perfect example of this is the power jog done in Cardio Racer. You basically jog and bring your arms and then out and then and then out. I was consistently scoring 50% or less and continually out of sync. Until I really started looking at the trainer. The trainers arms when coming back from the "out position" were kind of doing a chicken wing thing, and not a straight in and out. Once I got used to that motion, my scores are above 95%.

Thanks Spectra,
I am in the IT business so I know a few things about Development, beta testing, bugs etc.
So you are saying these issues has now been logged as seperate bugs at UBISOFT? Do they have tracking numbers? Has any of the bugs been confirmed and/or reproduced?
You say that you haven't experienced any of the issues, seems strange. So you can run say Men's Healths calory burning program finish the program and update program and run cardioracer, then go out of the game and next time you come in and want to run Mens Healths program it continues with session 2?
This hasn't worked for me ever, if I change program(I run two different programs in a row) then switching back loses all progress. It seems that many people on these forums have the same problem.
If this is a problem you don't have it is very likely that you do something different than the rest of us and it would be nice if you could share that as this is a really frustrating problem.
I have no problem with bugs in a program/games, but if they are on a really basic level that means that the QE hasn't been done to the expected level, not saving progress is one of these bugs.

I've seen several games with such problems, usually seasonal sport games where the development time is limited and developers focus on "core" functionslity, while details get postponed for the next years release usually because of the lack of time or simply to ship i tas next years new feature...
This game is techically one of the best games on Kinect...core functionality came out great (in my opinion), but various "lower priority" features suffer from a first release syndrom.
Also the really bad online support for now might just mean that they are evaluating the investment (are there enough people using the site) before jumping 100% into it.

No, beta means that beta builds of the game have been released into wild (real world) to limited (selected) audience. Since Kinect hardware was not released yet and Ubisoft is a 3rd party developer they could not beta test it. Nothing to do with Microsoft...no one had the device (unless you were in Kinect Beta, but that's another story...)

Yeah, people are complaining, but I believe a bit too much (too sensitive, not sensitive enough, this move works, this does not...). First off you are working out for yourself, second, what you are saying is that game works really well, but it's too sensitive? In some cases I agree, but I really do not care too much. A bit of experimenting usually ends up in correct move, and if it does not work I really do no care about those 2-3% that game does not register.
More often than not game actually does catch me when I start to slack...

Is this by design? If you start the program you are supposed to stick with it and use that toning/sculpting..etc section to mix-up stuff. People obviously do not like it. I personally do not mind, but game comes up a bit short in guidance department. It's not really clear how to pick the program, The whole toning, scuplting etc.. section is not really clear to me...
So I believe if this was resented to users in appropriate way or given a choice, they would go with it, but now it's perceived as a bad bug...
BTW more than QA this is usability study issue, people who work on a product tend to take some things (flow) for granted and don't realize it's not logical to a typical user. that is why usability studies are done. To figure out how an average user would react to a certain feature/flow.
As I mentioned in my previous post this product does suffer from various first release issues, and guiding the user through the experience might be one...

Thanks Dzipi100,
Yes, I agree in case it was designed that way then it is more a usability issue.
I cannot see why it would though? I agree the programs are designed so that you stick to that program to the end.
But in a program where its main purpose is to help its users get fit, I have a hard time to understand that running a program to build muscles one day and then running a cardio program the same day should mean that you lose your progress in the muscle building program.
Its like punishing you for trying to train more.. Perhaps the developers didn't consider that option but I believe it is more likely to be a bug..
Regarding the game itself and the complaints, I must stress that even though I might seem critical I absolutely love the game and it has really helped me train more(I do train quite a lot outside the game as well)
I think the excersises are really good and that the accurracy is great in most excersises, so on that i give full cred to Ubisoft.
BUT this with the programs is a big showstopper for me and i believe others, also there has been no authorative response here regarding the issues brought up whether they should be fixed or not, considered bugs or not etc.
Also I think the first patch should have been a patch to correct the issues found not a patch for having the customers spend more money.

dzipi,
Thanks for the clarification on the beta testing which would make sense. Can we jump to the conclusion then that for those of us that have taken time to register to be on this forum could/should be considered the beta testers for this game now? I would hope so, since it appears their pool of testers was limited by the Kinect device itself. Hopefully Ubi is looking at this forum that way. We cared enough to buy the game, register and start posting praise and problems.
Can I give a game more slack based on the fact it has to utilize a 3rd party hardware device. Sure no problem. It would just be nice to hear directly from them.
I believe a good portion of questions/concerns could have been avoided by a more involved user manual. It could have easily added a more in depth description of the personal training sessions. In particular, as we've all discussed, that you can't switch programs unless you finish it. They should have known that our excitement is going to make the users want to try everything in the game for a bit. Perhaps an option to lower the daily sessions from 12 to X would be a nice feature. A few more words about the only way to exit the game is by going back to the Xbox dashboard. I've played many games and that's true for all except the arcade games where the you can back out of the game to dashboard with B.
I really think more information a better manual would have helped out.

Hi, thanks for volunteering to consolidate questions.
My biggest frustration is with the lady saying "step a bit wider" in most of those exercises, when I am stepping almost twice as wide as the guy that is the "instructor". It does not seem to track the step width properly. It is very frustrating to get a low score when you KNOW that you are doing it properly, and others who are watching you in the room say you are doing it as good as the guy on the screen.

I have not noticed any problems with my game. I alternate days with the cardio and arms. Every day I warm up with some gym games and for my workout I either run through the "Cardio Kickboxing" (silver or gold entire class) or work on my next "sleeve busting arms" session.
The game is working for me the way I need it to. I am not jumping around in different workouts. Just back and forth between the two I mentioned. I have never had the game loose progress. I feel like I am getting a really great overall body workout.
When I have completed all my sleeve busting sessions I am looking forward to starting the "Skinny Jeans" workout.
I workout almost every day. I am on my 5th week and I have lost 10 lbs!!! I am very happy with how this game works for me.
I recommend you stick with a program until you complete all the sessions and alternate your program with gym games and fitness classes (like Zen or Kickboxing).

I disagree with you on the bugs and glitches on new games. I have over 50 Xbox 360 games that were new at some point, and can count on one hand, much less 3 fingers that have had issues...this is one of those games. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Some of my favorite games have had really bad problems at launch. Here are a few huge title examples: Battlefield Bad Company 2, Medal of Honor, Modern Warfare 2, and Fable 3. All of these titles had issues at launch with either the game itself or with their servers hosting multiplayer matches.
There were a number of issues present with BF:BC2 & MOH, that despite beta testing, they were unable to fix by launch. Medal of Honor's lack of success, I feel was a direct result of the games technical issues.
MW2 didn't beta test and the first few weeks of the games release were evident of that. That game's bugs and glitches are now being exploited by modders to cheat. For me, the game is almost unplayable because of it.
BF:BC2 servers kept crashing and kicking players out of the games. BF:BC 2 corrected a lot of the issues but it took months. Their issues were the most frustrating I have ever experienced with online play. Because the game didn't appear to be broken but something was very wrong. (p.s. this is one of my favorite first person shooters ever!!)
And then we have Fable 3. That game is plagued with bugs and issues despite the fact that it is a brand new release. And we are talking serious game crashes. I just lost 37 hours of game play yesterday. THIRTY SEVEN HOURS!!! I have to start over. Those kind of problems you notice. Every ONE of my friends has experienced the same problems with Fable 3 and I'm lucky with only loosing 37 hrs.
What is being described in our Your Shape forums is pale in comparison to what these titles faced during their launch. And those titles were not launching their games using any new peripherals.
Your Shape Fitness Evolved is one of the first games developed for Kinect. I have played a number of other Kinect games and it is by far the most accurate at tracking my movements in game.

Two things to add to what I see on this board. Why do game developers have to nickle and dime people. Microsoft is especially guilty of this and started this trend where you buy a game then have to buy points to play it. Considering most games are aimed at kids, it's like they're taking candy from babies. Have you no shame. There's already enough advertising in games and software...why not make that your added revenue stream.
On another note. How do you get out of this game? There doesn't seem to be a "quit" function. Was the lost somewhere?

Ok, I am also getting a great workout etc, etc, I am also training a lot etc, etc. I can also work around it, I run cardio boxing gold and platinum for cardio first and then do the selected program.
That is not the question nor the problem though, I did at one point and I will want to do it again, run one program, finish that session switch to another program after that and run that session, next day the progress in the first program are lost.
So simple, a yes or no will do.
Is the game designed to not save progress if you switch between two programs the same day(or two or three for that matter) even if you finish the session in respective programs?
Instead of telling me how to use the game and promote the value of the game on which I agree, it would be nice to have an answer to the question above.

Spectra,
Again, thanks for responding, however, your answer is disappointing (or maybe it is Ubi's response that you are giving). By your logic, we are to just accept the fact that when we pay good money for games we are to expect or accept that they will have glitches. Why should I have to accept that? Why should any consumer have to accept that? Just because one game has glitches, it's OK for Ubi to release one with glitches? Do the developers sit around and say, well remember back when Oblivion and more recently Fable 3 were released and the problems they had?? Our game has problems, but nothing compared to MW2 or Fable, so let's go ahead and release it anyway...it's good enough.
Maybe I should go to work and tell my boss, hey, you pay me good money, but you know what, my work is good enough...deal with it. Maybe I'll tell my kids, hey I know all of the other students are getting C's and D's, so just do what you have to get by...don't excel at anything and don't try and outperform the next kid.
Ubi made the conscious decision to release a game with bugs/glitches. I don't care about Fable, Obilivion or MW2. I don't care about those other developers and what they released. I bought this game. I care about Ubi, does Ubi care about us?
Regardless of what Ubi says, a game that now has problems tracking even my most basic moves (step touch, jumping jacks) has major glitches.
So please quit comparing this game to others and how other games had bigger problems when released. This isn't a forum about MW2, Fable or Oblivion. It is about Your Shape. It is about the game I spent my money on. It is about a game that has glitches that need fixed.
It is apparent that we are the beta testers for this game and they really need to start listening to us and get a presence on this board.
Their silence on their own forum is deafening.

@ Spectra: We appreciate what you do to get our concerns heard. From what I've read, the biggest thing that people want is the ability to save progress within each of the personal training programs so that if you switch, you don't have to start over and can continue with the program and do some new exercises. I have been doing what you are doing and continuing within a single Personal Training program and supplementing that with switching to some of the Fitness Classes (the cardio and such). I do get a good workout, but at the same time, I would like the chance switch things up...to do the Sleeve Busting Arms workouts and the next day do the Ultimate Fat Burning Workout and the next day go back to Sleeve Busting Arms and do some new exercises and not start over again at session 1. (I am assuming that session 6 or 10 have some different exercises than session 1, I haven't gotten that far yet).
Overall, it is a great game and I feel I get value from what is there. There are things that can be improved -- what I mentioned above is the main thing I'd like to see. I don't think I've seen one game come off the shelf without something I'd like to see changed. I'm trying not to get too hung up on some of the exercises that have trouble recognizing me and giving me "credit."

Could someone explain to me why my dayly training are not progressing? I have been doing the same workout 3-4 times a week for the last 2 months, and it still shows that I have 11 sessions left, but it actually never changes...
Where can I get answers to that (here on the blog, or in the actual game...). Do I need to update anything?

Publishers don't typically release titles with intend glitches and problems. My intention was to bring the issues people are facing with this game some context. Video games are by no means perfect and to expect such is foolish. However, Ubisoft makes some of the best games available. The developers who worked on Your Shape intended to produce a revolutionary Fitness experience for Kinect and I believe they have done so. They didn't launch the game and all go home. They are still working to provide players with the experience as advertised.

Developers don't usually respond directly on forums. That job is left to the Community Developers and Forum Moderators. And people in both those positions have been responding in this forum. The other Ubisoft representatives and myself, are working to bring the issues you are facing to the attention of someone who can implement your feedback in a way that will make this game even better.
We have received the first wave of responses from developers and I hope to have more at the beginning of the new year. Answers received from the developers have been posted in red to the corresponding threads.

Here are some of my questions concerns:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>Like many have posted on various topics in YSFE already, I am always told to spread my legs out longer when doing leg curls. I can't...as I'd end up pulling a muscle or something. This needs to be fixed.
<LI>I agree that YSFE should not reset the number of workouts you are doing, for example, "Cario Racer" or "Toned Body" if you want to choose something different for a day or two and then come back to your normal exercise routine.
<LI>One of the more serious things I've seen is lag in the video where it's not syncing to the audio. I've got a 40" Sony Bravia HDTV which is capable of 1080p resolution. I also have my XBox hooked up to my 5.1 channel Sony surround-sound A/V receiver. Here's a prime example. Recently, I downloaded the new "Toned Body" workout from the XBox Marketplace. It's a great 34-minute workout for me. However, about 8 minutes into the workout...where the leg curls begin, the video tends to lag behind the beat of the music by about 1/4 beat. This is very noticable because the trainer on screen never puts her foot down on the beat. It's always behind...and so a lot of the workout after the 8 minute mark suffers from this lag as well. Then, when the routine gets back to the squat punches for a short time (around 16 minutes in), the squat punches are actually AHEAD of the music...which also throws me off. In summary, the lag is frustrating because I never know if I should be matching the beat of the music or if I should be following the trainer on screen. If I follow the trainer on screen during those parts, then I am (without question) not in time with the beat of the music.
<LI>I can never seem to get 100% on the cross-ski exercise. I've gotten as low as 1% on it, and I believe I am doing everything correctly. I don't understand why YSFE doesn't recognize my movements correctly on this exercise (found in "Toned Body").
[/list]
If these issues could be sent to the developers as well, I would really appreciate it! Thank you.

Great program overall but there are a couple of things that I'd love to see which would be great improvements:
1. I love the virtual brick smashing game. I just wish that there was a way to set the time on it. It would be great to go at least 5 or 10(maybe more) minutes straight doing the brick smashing(Or is there a way to do that now?)
2. I wish there was a way to implement a weight tracking system into the game. The exercise is wonderful but I'd really like the ability to monitor weight loss
3. It's minor but I'd like there to be clarity of my figure when I work out instead of a funny colored blur. Surely the camera on the kinect is good enough to maintain a bit better likeness during the workout(or just use the Avatar instead)
All in all, excellent program and I'm looking forward to future advancements. Have you considered creating strategic ties with bodybug or Jorge Cruise?

steven.stokes...there is a way to see your "true-self"...in the initial screen, there is a circle you can step on where you can change what "you" look like in the display. One of those is your "true image".
1) I would like to mirror Steve's request for a weight-tracking mechanism. Maybe there can be an option to input your weight...and an option to see a dated graph that shows a) your weight loss/gain progression, b) a history of your workouts which coincide with your weight movements.
2) I also would like to mirror Steve's request for a user-defined time limit on the Gym games. They are low-impact, and just about the time my heart rate is getting to where I need it, it's over.
3) I have not had NEARLY the issues that it seems some people have with exercise position recognition. I usually finish my 28-40 minute workout at 90% accuracy or more. The one exercise that has the hardest time is (I cannot remember the name) the one where you curl your leg upward behind you, then pivot to the other leg. (Leg Curls?)
4) A more fleshed-out daily/monthly/annual "at a glance" calorie burn graph.
5) If what was mentioned above about the caloric burn inaccuracy is true (I have yet to wear my Polar monitor, as my battery is dead), proper calibration would be optimal.
6) The ability for me to create my own custom workout by building my own routines from the laundry list of exercises...this would be huge.
7) Custom soundtracks...another huge option that I cannot believe was not implemented.
Love it so far, keep the DLC coming. Work in more workouts with weights/straps/etc.

Thanks Birdflu...I did figure out how to "change views" of myself to different colors and even to what is supposedly a true image or "self". My thought is that the image is still very rough and I'm just wondering if that is because of the limitations of the software or of the Kinect camera itself.
I had a nice workout today with multiple options but would still like a tad more control over the actual time of the workout.
I downloaded the add-ons and ....it looks as though I need to work through the other workouts first before they become unlocked(which I'm fine with as long as they are worth it when I get there.

Hello,
I am curious if there would be more workouts using the weights. I enjoy the the Men's Health workout but it get's repetitive.
Also, I suggest adding a DLC that would also target muscle on the core.
Lastly it would be nice if the speaker would explain what muscle are targeted when doing exercises (ex. Lunges targets Hamstring, Quadriceps and Glutes. Deadlifts targets Hamstring and possibly lower back and abs, etc. etc.
Thank You!

I'm frustrated with how poor the web site operates. When my "beta" account was created on the xbox...I typoed the password. When logging on the site the security words would not show up so I could not even get it reset. You also cannot email the webmaster without logging in. This is a big problem when your complaint is that you cannot log in.
After a month, low and behold the words finally showed up and here I am. Now I can't figure out how to add my husband as a friend. In the game it says go online. Online it says I have no friends but there is not a button (that I can find) to add a friend!!!! Love the workout hate the fact I can't pick on the hubby with a challenge. Help...
Also the wide stance thing and the squat in zen bugs me too. I gave up and just keep on going. I'm doing it and that is what matters. But my question is: are the calories burned increased as your score increases? If so, the game needs to recognize a wide stance and squat better so the calories are more realistic.

The game doesnt seem to have any options to allow for exercise or mobility restrictions.
I have limited mobility in my knees basically cannot squat or lunge. I was very disappointed when the first work outs that it put me in were squats and lunges.
There needs to be an area to limit routines that target problem areas of a persons body.

I really like this "game." One of my biggest frustrations with it is that no matter what I do, I am unable to consistently break blocks with my knees or kicks in virtual smash. What is going on with this? It is killing me inside.
Other than that I agree with the complaints of the others. I too have lost progress, and the "game" keeps telling me to spread my legs more.

smp1977, when you kick are you kicking across your body? When you kick it's just like when your punch, left leg kicks right block, right leg kicks left block. I apologize if this is something someone has already told you. But it's the only thing I can think of that would be causing you so much trouble.

Nano -- When you kick a block, does it really "smash" and go flying apart? Or does it just sort of fall over? I assume you get more points when it flies apart, which never happens when I kick anything.

I seem to be having an issue on the 2nd and 3rd levels of the new Platinum Cardio fitness level. Everytime I do a smash lunge it will not track the lunge on one side of my body. I believe it's always when my right leg is back and left knee bent. The other leg tracks perfectly. I can't get even one of the right leg back punch lunges to register. Anyone else?

The faster you get to a block whether it's punching or kicking the more likely it is that it will break into pieces and you will earn more points. So, if you're kicking slower than you're hitting it's more likely the whole block will just fall away when you kick. If you're successfully kicking the blocks and they're not breaking up for you, I'm sure with practice you'll get faster and you'll be smashing them to bits http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yup, that is the problem. I just played it again, and really focused on getting a good, fast kick in on one of the low blocks. It blew apart fine. I'm just really slow, I guess. Normally I am rather off balance when those low blocks come up for the kick, so I take a long time before I react and knock them over. Fortunately, my wife tells me, if I get my core muscles tightened up I will get faster at that sort of thing.
Thanks for the explanation!

This has been a common problem for people. You need to do a full first session of the personal training you choose before the fitness test results are saved. When you complete the session be sure to leave it by hitting the "Finish" circle.

I would like to see a way to change between male and female trainers without having to go through the whole fitness test routine again, along with other options that are chosen during this test (such as weight, age, etc.). Another thing is when doing some of the cardio sessions and they have the part where they teach you new moves you have not previously done, they don't count down and you have to keep doing them over and over until the software says you are doing them correctly, even though you may be doing it exactly like the trainer. I've nearly worn myself out before even starting the session. At least make this where it counts down with the trainer as in other parts of the game.

I have problems with my step width. It says I need to step further and I'd have to practically do the splits and you wouldn't be able to keep up. Also my zen squats don't record properly, even though I do them as shown.

MsgtFlash, You can change your age and weight and retake your profile picture without retaking the fitness test. Go to "Edit Profile." But sadly you do have to retake it to change the trainer.
I like to retake the test every few thousand calories or so. If someone can stand their current trainer that long http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif retaking the test isn't so bad. Also, no matter which trainer you choose you will still have the same voice and the trainer in the fitness classes will remain as they are: Zen = female trainer; Cardio boxing = male trainer; Bollywood dancing = female trainer.

MsgtFlash - I agree with the tutorial issue! I have experienced many of the same things as others have mentioned (not wide enough stance etc.) but not being able to skip the tutorial is really hard. I had one yesterday that I know I was getting at least well enough for it to count for part points but as I started to tire I could not keep up wit the rhythm so was stuck forever. I finally just stood in place for a few minutes resting and eventually it stopped and moved on but not before becoming very fatigued with that exersise. And then I had to go through the whole routine with multiple sets of that movement before it saved! I actually do like the movement that I was working on but found the tutorial just wore me out.
Another issue I have had is not being able to do a few of the exersises due to physical issues. Jumping jacks for a middle aged, obese woman who has given birth a few times and is well endowed in the upper chest area is NOT cool for several reasons, some I don't need to go into but besides it being uncomfortable I have found the strain on my joints is terrible. I find I can get my heart rate up just fine with most of the other exersises that don't involve jumping off the ground. I'm sure as I lose weight and get more fit I will be able to do those but maybe there should be a workout geared more towards those of us who have been couch potatoes for years and need to spend some time building up not only muscle but joint and tendon strength. I will admit though - I did find a way to work around the jumping jacks, turns out you can swing one leg (and both arms) out while keeping in rhythm and still get some credit. For those of us who are out of shape you burn just as many calories!

Please patch the game so I can advance to sculpting 1.2.....I've been doing scultping 1.1 over and over and over.....I'm bored....Patch this game or give me back my 60 dollars. Stop making new downlaodable content to scam more money from people and fix the current game so I can advance to the next level. Make the game clearer on what it wants me to do to advance.

I am wondering why when I switch programs that the progress isn't saved and I have to start all over. I find some of the workouts not challenging enough or long enough, so I like to switch around. But getting stuck and going back all over again sucks.
Is there something I'm doing wrong to get the progress saved?

You aren't doing anything wrong. This is how the game works. People have been I think we all just have to wait for Ubi to give us the official answer if there will be a patch or not.

Lots of others have this same problem. This has been a common complaint I've seen both here and on the YSFE Facebook page. It's good that we are reporting it though, so Ubi can investigate further. They are reading these forums...according to Spectra.

This version of the game YSFE is intended to be used on the XBox 360 with the Kinect sensor. If this is the version you purchased it will not work on a PC and so cannot be downloaded to a PC.

There are two things I would like to see added to the game. First, I would like to see a warm-up and cool-down stretch program that you can do before and after your workout. Second, I would like to be able to utilize more than one personalized program at a time. For example, if I do one of the training programs for two days and want to do something different on the third day, I lose all progress in the original training program and have to start all over if I want to continue on the next day. Also, If I want to do two training programs in one day to extend my workout the only way to do it is update the training and I again lose progress for the next day so I can never finish a 12 day training circuit.

Not to lose the progress I created 4 additional profiles and switch between them if I want to do more than one program a day. This way I don't have to start anew after changing programs and don't lose progress.

I'm glad I found this thread. My wife was telling me that the game didn't seem to save her progress and I ran into that this morning. Now I know that changing progams causes this. If this is working as intended, I hope they change it. It's nice to be able to mix them up.
I also run into issues with the game telling me I need to keep my feet further apart. I look at the trainer and I already have them further apart than they do.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I've been having this same problem too. I'm only 4'11" and 120 lbs. I find this problem to be a rather LARGE safety risk since I have my legs so far apart I'm almost slipping and I AM getting a bit of rug burn on my feet(though I could just wear tennis shoes). Get a heavy weight person than me and it could cause some injury to somebody.

My advice for those who are hearing the trainer voice "fussing at them" for various things, like the width of their stance, is to check the small green dots while you doing the exercise. If the green dots light up you are doing just fine. My experience is that sometimes the voice is incorrect. This is sometimes due to a bit of lag, but it not uncommon for the voice to say you need a wider stance when in fact your stance is too wide. I think some of the voice cues are a bit scrambled.
I've talked about this in more detail in the thread Nice & Easy revisited – trainer voice all out of wack! (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5691026098/m/7191030409?r=7191030409#7191030409) But I think the problem exists in many areas of YSFE.

kwilds- THANK YOU for that workaround suggestion regarding the jumping jacks. I have similar issues. Most of the workouts are low impact enough but those were gonna kill me. I didn't think about just doing one leg at a time while flapping away. Much nicer now, keeps my heart rate up and still a great workout- gives me a 73% completion rating on them. Good enough for now.
Now it's only the "widen your stance" issue that bugs me. I look forward to game updates and patches in the future. I'm enjoying the program for the most part! I love seeing the calories burned add up, and can't wait for the inches to fall off.

That would be nice, but I'm almost doing splits before it recognizes a wide stance thus making other movement impossible to do correctly. It's also annoying that your exercises only count if and when you're in rhythm even though you've been busting your tail even though it's not registering.
A few other issues besides the inability to save and stop a session and pick-up where one has left off is the annoyingly granular menu system. If you pick a menu option, why the need for a new button to activate going to the choice. It's like someone sticking a key in a car ignition and turning the key to start the engine and then having the car's onboard computer system asking you "Do you REALLY want to start the car, if so, turn the key one more time please."
Then there's the inability to mix and match routines to suit specific exercises or avoidance of certain exercises. I can't do specific arm AND leg activity one day and select cardio and toning on another day. Also, if I hate lunges, for example, I should be able to skip those or any other exercises that are part of a routine if I choose.

I agree. I can't seem to go to the next level of the same exercise - the system always forces me to either play the same exercise again and there doesn't seem to be a way to stop the program and save the progress -- therefore everytime I start the You Shape it forces me to start from the beginning. Sometimes one would just like to do a series of certain kind of exercises, example shoulder and go to the higher levels without having to start from the beginning. The Kinect selection steps do not appear to permit the user freedom in tayloring one's exercises to one's desire at that time. It is frustrating enough to not want to do the you shape again. Florence

In order to get the fitness test results saved by the game you must choose a personal training program immediately after taking it and complete the first session of the program. Be sure that you leave the personal training session by touching "Finish" after you have completed it.

I love this game's potential, but I am a little bored by it. It seems every cardio workout uses the same moves. I'm sure you get to challenge yourself with different ones at higher levels, but I just get too bored doing the same exercises to get to the next levels honestly. I saw something about a Bollywood workout, but it had no reviews and you had to pay for it. Are there any free downloads of additional content?

In order for your daily sessions to count down you need to do the following:
Complete the entire workout and then choose "finish" and let the game return to the main menu.
Not "Update Your Personal Training Program" (when you update and do another Personal Training Program it re-sets your daily counter back to 0)
You can only complete 1 Daily Session every 24 hours. If you do the same routine 2 times in one day it will still only count it once. It's designed as a "DAILY" workout.
Here are some tips:
I suggest warming up with Gym Games or a Fitness Class. Then move over to your daily Personal Training session. You could even cool down with some more Gym Games or Fitness Class.

It's not a bug. That is the way the game is designed. The game gives you a series of Personal Training choices based on your Fitness Evaluation. The developers intended for the player to stick with one Personal Training program at a time, as part of a daily workout. Their thinking is that jumping around to programs you are not ready for can lead to injury.

Maybe I don't understand the menu structure but in my opinion YSFE DOES make you 'jump around to programs' because it does not offer a lot of different (complete) workouts. For instance why did the people that work on YSFE not think about a warming-up and cooling-down? These things are very common in a workout, especially if you are concerned about people getting injured(and I'm sure people at UBI are). I noticed that my workouts in YSFE sometimes start at (full) speed without taking any notice of what I did (or didn't!) before I started it.
In my opinion you should get the credits if you do a workout. In this decennium software should be smart enough to warn people if they are training too much in their opinion. Example: During my last workout on YSFE I almost did the complete series of cardio boxing and burned around 800 calories. I could have injured myself and I received some (appreciated) warnings but I got all the calorie credits.

Puh, you really call this now a feature ?
I remember in the beginning when the game came out, you failed as well answering the peoples question why the counter is all the time set to 0 again when you try to shuffle the program.
Next, I wonder why UBI would advertise the game with the great feature to shuffle and put together your personal workout which the game somehow fails.
BUT the point prooving that it is for sure a bug and not a feature is the missing advice in the game to warn you, like:
"Are you sure you want to update your personal workout. This will make you loose your current progress"
No description about this feature in the manual neither. So please stop calling it a feature.
It is pathetic....

A bug is when something isn't functioning as designed. Spectra_FD said that it's functioning as designed, so there's no point in trying to argue that it's a bug. It's not.
Having said that, things aren't always designed in the most user-friendly way or the way we would like them to be. We post feedback and it (hopefully) gets back to the powers that be. Whether they decided to change the design is their decision. They're the ones who will pay for mistakes in the long run (through dropping sales)

Reading your post, I do have to agree. Dont misunderstand me I love the game actually.
I am just sometimes very frustrated about certain feature which are really not user friendly.
I hope you are right and the constant input of this forum will have an impact on the development of a patch or (more likely) a new game. I really hope so, because due to lack of alternatives I am for sure going to buy the next one as well.

Are there any plans to release an update in the near future with more accurate or more tolerant tracking? I have pretty much given up on this game and switched to one of your competitors. If a patch is forthcoming, I'll wait and try it again. If not, I think its time to trade it in.
I really liked it at first, but the poor accuracy and constant out of rhythm status are just too irritating.

Really? One workout of five minutes every 24 hours? That's just ridiculous - I like to do cardio AND toning every day for at least an hour, have for more then two months, and no, no injury. Dictating what a person should do for training is stupid, and forcing them to cut way back just to "save progress" is insulting.

Is there a plan for more content in the near future?
I have just finished the "toned body" (I think thats the name of it, a 34min program which I combine with some cardio boxing before and after.. gives me a good 500cal count daily.
Looking through the rest of the programs they are all ~15min-ish, so my question is, are there plans to release more content soon?
Also --- figured I would add my review from Amazon.
If your reading this, you are likely wondering if this is for you.
Answer - yes, it is.
Now for the long version.
I work in IT, and I have been training for 25+ years, I have just passed the 9000cal mark on this game (to scope my response).
First, if you are someone trying to get in shape, or better shape, or a new twist to an existing routine, this will work. Its good, stick with it, change things up, have fun, eat right and you will get in better shape than you are now. There are glitches, it doesn't track perfectly all the time (although I have found that the majority of "not tracking" issues was a problem with me, not the game), but for all its faults you will probably get as good if not a better workout with this than in a cardio class.
It will not replace a personal trainer, which will take you through lifting routines and help with diets etc., but it will give you a very good cardio based workout. I am glad I got it, I use it often and it works me, and I have been training for 25+ years. The levels are fairly well set (I have a beginner who uses it in my same house and its doing a great job there too, just a bit easier than mine), and things to change up a bit, the games are entertaining and do make you sweat for a few more calories, but stick in the personal training as the main part of your program. Be sure to stretch well and warm up before getting into it though.
Now, for UBI - You had an opportunity to really kick one out of the park here, first one in the new market, established success, and you turned a C. This is the first deep interaction that has happened with people / machine, soooo many opportunities you missed to make a product that people were amazed with, you could have set the bar with Kinect interaction, but you left the money on the table and walked away. You turned out a good, solid product, but missed soooo much from interaction to stats and just a lot of fun factor (Yes, I am in software and work with the Kinect, I know what I am talking about). You left a lot of money on the table.
Now for Men's / Women's Health, mainly men's. I am going to guess your all under 35/35 and all wear straights (which means you are all under 35yo, under a 35in waste, and wear straight leg jeans). Like so many "fitness professionals" you are of the mind "faster is better" (cardio boxing a prime example). Every exercise I have seen so far, uses this ideal of jumping or moving fast to workout, and there are so many good, solid, alternatives many of which are arguably more effective than the typical "cardio class" or doing calisthenics. As your not in a new market (like UBI) I can only give you a D, I would expect you to know better and give many more options to UBI to produce. I hope your publications are not so myopic.
Finely for everyone else, even though I would expect more from these two companies, the product itself is solid and can really help you get fit, have fun and feel better.... get it, and hopefully in the next year or two someone will step up and produce what this should have been.

Yes, we got one single response about events that says maybe March. The game came out in Novemeber and the events, seeing as how it's an achievement, should have been up and running with the release of the game. So, some of us would like to hear anything more on the events at the very least, even a "hey guys we're still working on it" would be nice. March is almost over, and we are yet to hear anything... I've been playing EA the past month, and although it's as easy and quick to check to see if they put one up yet, it's getting rather old, constently checking to see no event and no word on it.

You could always PM Spectra or Gypsy. I did that last week to get permission to post a gameplay video, and Gypsy replied that same evening...and it was a Sunday night (if I recall). Maybe they would be willing to just check in again with their developers so they can give us a status update. Just a suggestion.

3 days left Ubisoft. I really wanted to pull for this game, its got a cleaner look and a nicer interface than the competition. That being said the resistance training is a joke and its idea of core training is "clench your abs while you squat". Please. TBL guides you through a fitness routine and EAA2 paces itself using a monitor. This game leaves you in a wilderness of exercises that reset when you try a new one, and doesn't guide you towards being fit other than you going to the site and setting calorie goals. Add an event, fix the detection/rythm issues and maybe add some documentation on how to use the game in a manner that promotes health. For a game with professional health magazines on board, the lack of intelligent health design is absurd. Show me what you got Ubisoft or I'll show the Kinect my backside as I use your game as an ultimate frisbee.

Hey Spectra or whoever is out there that can answer my questions...
First off, let me admit that I'm a newbie on this game (2 weeks, but I only really count 1 as full effort). I love the game, I took a good long look at it and the EA title before deciding. Its a good show of Kinects ability.
Now onto my questions:
1) I seem to agree with statements listed early in this thread (from Dec, almost 4 months ago). Something seems way off on the Zen detection. I do my training, it detects fine.. any out of rythm or bad scores I can easily chalk up to me being unskilled or doing it wrong. My scores are typically in the high 80s/90s (http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif a few low 70s and a 50ish once, but I was tired). But in the Zen programs, I'm registering 10s, 20s.. and whats worse is unlike the training, the moves are only counted once (not immediately repeated 20x over, but its understandible its yoga/tc). This means I have no easy way to learn to correct my mistakes. There's no way to slow down the flow, or retry the position to perfect it. After 10 years in SW engineering, I've debugged some uglies. Since the training stuff works, I doubt its my Kinects tuning; and I'd even guess its not the game in general. I'm sure the problem is probably me.. but the game isn't helping me get better, its pushing forward without me.. and I'm losing motivation, and find myself shying away from the zen stuff. As someone who has done yoga and enjoyed it (well not downward dog, i'm not insane), I was originally really excited about this feature.. and thats sad to me.
2) This quesion is for my wife. She's much more fit than me.. a runner at heart. But we're expecting, she's still trying to run (as her doc said thats ok). But wanted to know Is there any program (be it short game stuff or otherwise) that the qualified fitness people there, who know the game would recommend as being ok to do during this time?
3) I'm confused with the fitness programs, and need guidance. I did the test and based on my desires & its suggestions, I started a cardio program. I do the routines, it ends and I'm given the option to finish or play next. I play next, and continue to play next until about 40 min (typically 4 sets of routines). Then I wrap up with something fun or attempt the zen stuff before my wife wakes up and allows the doggies to come out to the play room (kinect killers). The next day I do the same. I'm getting kind of bored with the program, and wishing to mix it up. I read the thread a bit and found that I can jump from cardio to toning to ? (sculpting?) and stay in my program. How? The game just gives me "finish" or "play next" whenever I end a set. Finish takes me to the training menu and I don't want to lose and have to restart my cardio program by selecting something else. And play next seems to take me through a never ending cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio routine.. does it end? I got lvl 3 cardio after my first set this morning (well before I hit the lvl 3/ 1000 Cals burned, which I got after some block smashing workout wrapup)
4) I looked at the game manual (should be an achievement for that as I think this is the first game I've done that with), and it mentions a 4 week course. And I see in this thread people mentioning some kind of "daily training" system that says how many sessions you have left... (guessing its the same 4 week course in the manual?). And I want to know wtf is that, and where do I go to do that in game? It sounds like what I want in this game, a plan. I currently lack a plan. I chose what I thought was a cardio plan, but it doesn't feel like a plan just "play next" for another 8-10 min, until I finally decide I should "finish". A real plan would be awesome, am I on one and don't know it?
Anyway sorry this is long.. but the game does lack true player guidence (which is why I cracked open that manual btw, thinking I missed something.. no guidence there either.. but 2 pages on the xbox controller, which i've never touched in this game). Now I know someone else posted this too, and again with 10 yrs sw eng experience I know I do this with my company's UI, so I understand... I know how to work my sw UI as I'm programming it.. but the customer doesn't have a clue that I decided to certain things because I thought them better that way, their intuition may have them unsure how to use my system. And I think thats whats happening, I'm intuitively not in sync with the ubi devs and there is no guidance showing me what to do. I've watched videos of the game too, but they all seem like marketting vids. How bout a user manual video? showing us how to do some of these things ubi devs thought were obvious? For us newbies.
Thanks.
And again, the game is great, I really love the game.. a lot, which is why I'm EXTREMELY frustrated with certain glaring deficiencies.

sparki1980, This won't answer all your questions but a forum member has put together a very nice wiki for YSFE - http://yourshapefitnessevolved...Fitness_Evolved_Wiki (http://yourshapefitnessevolved.wikia.com/wiki/Your_Shape_Fitness_Evolved_Wiki). Perhaps it will help with some direction. Some of us have been poking around in the - not exactly dark but sometimes dim light - of YSFE since early November and have come to understand how most of it works. Thanks NanoParticle, it does answer some of my newbie questions.
I see now that I'm doing the Cardio thing, which doesn't operate on a 12 session basis. So that answers some questions. That wikia does raise some others (the avg burns don't make sense - MBC: Get Fit = 14min/115Cal, Cardio Racer = 28min/139Cal.. but I haven't tried either so idk).
I can now also see why people don't like the non-progress saving on switching 12 session workouts. 1 session of a 10min workout is barely a workout, it'd be nice to do a single session of 2 seperate workouts each day... and to mix it up. Can you mix in cardio (a non-12 step program) with these sessions and not lose your progress?. If not I guess its cardio kick boxing to get a full day in.

Hey minnasykuuipo,
Here's what I gathered from the site nano sent me, and other places:
1) You can do as many repeats of the workout as you want, but will only get credit for 1 session a day. And if you start another training program your stats (session counter) reset.
2) Your WL account log in is your email/password you used to make your xbox live account. xbox live info = Windows live info.. You have to sign in with that to get your xbox friend list onto ubi's site.
3) 3 ex(ercises), 34'(minutes)

YES! thank you Sparki
I have another question; I have the ipad app for this and on the program finder there something one called Womens Health Special Program with 'The Abs Workout' along with toned arms and shoulders (found it) and skinny jeans (found it) but I can not find the tight abs one

MinnasyKuuipo, The 'The Abs Workout' does not exist in YSFE at this time. It could be a DCL for the future or it could be an idea that was scrapped by UBi. I don't know any details about it. I guess we can keep an eye out for it. I would really like an abs program.

For anyone affected by the bug not updating calorie scores :
I've received the standard response from Ubisoft - they know about the problem (known since January...) and IF they have a fix they will put it on the website.
I didn't get a response to my request why it was taking so long for something so fundamental to the game and whether there would be any recompense for the people affected.
I suggest anyone really hacked off with Ubisoft contact Microsoft :
http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/email-us.aspx
I've already had a speedy response from them. I doubt they will be very happy to hear one of their manufacturers is losing them customers.

First off- Fix the bugs- that is necessary-
AFTER that-
*I want to be able to alternate prgrams per DAY*
(I don't think you should be able to do more than one program a day- that's bad for muscle- however repeating the same session is not bad- but being able to change between legs one day and upper the next would be a huge benefit for muscle- ~~~~if you over work the same muscle you end up burnng the muscle not the fat~~~~~)
*Second- WHY is there not Chest exercise- not even showing that it's worked ont he apps- it's not even an option! the chest muscle is a very important muscle group- ~and no woman wants a flabby chest- Womens health has exercises- put them on here when you can, we'd appreciate it.
then of course if the ps3 has a core program so should the xbox!
Other wise fix the bugs- that's priority- and thank you!

Totally agree, this has to be fixed! I ended up creating another profile so that I can play 2 programs in parallel, but that is not ideal...

I am also having issues with my training not progressing. After reading this post I made sure I only accessed one training program per 24hr period and that I finished it and returned to the main menu but I am still not progressing?????!! This is so annoying how can I access the next session. I am completing the programs at 90% so it can't be score related. Is this a glitch in the program? What am I doing wrong?

Could someone explain to me why my dayly training are not progressing? I have been doing the same workout 3-4 times a week for the last 2 months, and it still shows that I have 11 sessions left, but it actually never changes...
Where can I get answers to that (here on the blog, or in the actual game...). Do I need to update anything? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
i need the exact same answer please </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

i find the Zen classes are the absolute worst, and i also have the exact same problem -- it never recognizes my squats, even tho the cute little white "skeleton" lines **CLEARLY** show me doing a squat.
i am highly disappointed in this fact, but the only thing i can possibly do is either accept the fact that the game is incorrectly giving me a terrible score, or not do the Zen exercises.
i 100% experience the same problem.

I noticed a workout the other day that I would like to try . . .Hips Horay, but it is locked and I am not sure how to unlock it. When I click on it, it brings me to my ubisoft profile. Anyone know how to unlock it?
