I have a friend who is using Your Shape/Kinect under Personal Training. She injured her knee, so is unable to do the lunge. But since she scores low, the game keeps having her do it over and over. Is there a way to skip a particular exercise move? thanks, Jeff

From the developers:

The programs have been created as a combination of exercises to be complete workouts. Unfortunately, It is impossible to skip an exercise.

I found the solution. I decided to skip the girlfriend!

Impossible to skip? I understand the theology behind it, but that's a foolish idea in game design. My understanding is that EA's competing game does allow that. I enjoy most of My Shape, but the 'pendulum' exercise is really hard on my ankle, so I just sit that one out every time it comes up... which accomplishes neither your fitness routine's goals, nor your commercial goals of establishing a competitive product.

Perhaps it's something you should rethink for a subsequent downloadable patch.

I've been using Your Shape now for a couple of weeks and I have found it excellent. However, I would agree with the two posts here; not to mention the number of posts found elsewhere in forums on other websites saying the same thing.

I've spent my whole life as a long distance runner, but my legs have finally given in to constant pounding. After several months rest I discovered Your Shape as an alternative. I have really enjoyed it because I get a great workout and, with very few exceptions, they are generally low impact exercises; just what my physio ordered. However, the "Pendulum" especially is an example of a ridiculous exercise and I can feel the harsh impact on every attempt. I now sit that particular routine out (well, I flap my arms in time) as I cannot risk setting myself back again with injury. I would really like one of the forum managers to feedback this concern and ask Ubisoft to seriously consider consulting a professional physiotherapist with regards the benefits versus dangers of knee/angle pounding exercises like the Pendulum. If they insist that it is acceptable for most people then they should at least recognise that there are a number of us out there that are unable to complete certain exercises. In which case, we need to be able to substitute another exercise.

Apart from anything else, if they implemented such a feature then Ubisoft could track which exercises people are skipping and this would allow them to make better informed choices for future content, and so on.

I agree totally!

I CANNOT do anything but very low impact at this time. I too would like to be able to skip the higher impact excersises or even better would be to have a way to replace those excersises with a different one. I have found a low impact workaround for jumping jacks but if pendulum comes up I just try to do an alternate excersise so I keep burning calories, I just don't get credit for it.

I'm curious, I have not encountered the pendulum exercise in any of the sessions I have done (and I've done a lot of exercising with YSFE since Nov 6th http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif). Where are you seeing this exersise? I've looked for it in the YSFE Wiki (http://yourshapefitnessevolved.wikia.com/wiki/Your_Shape_Fitness_Evolved_Wiki) but it isn't mentioned. So I figure it much be in one of progressive session and since I've done toning I guess it's either cardio or sculpting which I have not tried.

I run into pendulums all the time. There are millions of them in Cardio Racer, and are the plague of my existence, and I believe they also came up during either Trained or Advanced Cardio. (They *may* have come up during Basic Cardio that I did for a little while when getting used to the game, but as they don't seem like a basic exercise, I think they were probably later.)

It's in Cardio Racer and I think it's part of the advanced cario circuit as well. It's like doing a jumping jack except that your legs alternate when they go out, so as your arms go up your right leg is going out, as they go down your right leg comes back and your left leg goes out. Pretty funky until you get the hang of it and definitely not low impact.

Although I *can* do them, I often don't do them full out because they seem to be a lot harder on the knees than any other exercise, including jumping jacks. I typically get only 50%-75% on them for this reason. I don't mind doing them properly a time or two, but the amount of pendulums that Cardio Racer requires is ridiculous!

Thanks, it's interesting to me that I have unknowingly avoided them so far. And after reading this thread I think I will continue to avoid them in the future http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Since I have enjoyed the cardio boxing so much I have not felt inclined to do personal training cardio programs. For personal training I like the session that tend more toward toning. And of course I also do some EASA2 workouts.
