Hi guys,
My housemate is one of the unlucky few with an incompatable CD drive (I think the LG one - but it's visibly unbranded) he was initially unable to install the game.

We fixed this via drastic measure - swapped his CD drive for mine for the duration of the installation then swapped back.

However even after updating to the latest patch, the game still requires the CD. This confuses me, as most of the time a year down the line the manufacturer has pushed out a legitimate no-cd with their patches.

I looked around and found that the 64-bit patch does not require a cd, but couldn't find one for the 32-bit version. Is this correct? He's screwed now I guess, as I don't know if the store will take the item back at this stage.

Any help greatly appreciated. I don't plan on taking the illegitimate route deleted as that might put his CD-Key at risk online.

There isn't a legal no cd version of Far Cry. Unfortunatly, it seems his only recourse is to obtain a new CD player.

FYI

Thanks for the information.

Regarding my post, can you explain to me what part of it constituted breaking the rules, as it's not clear to me.

3.4 Warez: Links to warez sites or discussion of warez is not permitted. Breach of this rule can lead to legal proceedings against Ubisoft, and will not be tolerated. No-CD cracks are against the Ubisoft licensing agreement and are included in this rule - which is strictly enforced. This still applies even to legitimately sort game problems. Further to this, it is Ubisoft policy that Emulation SW, eg SW that can emulate a console on a PC, cannot be discussed, or linked to, here.
