I just logged in to play and it tells me the demo has expired and I can't play multiplayer anymore...
So I guess UBI doesn't think any prospective buyers are going to want to try out the multiplayer before they buy it??

They may as well take it down, its was a disaster, worked for about a week then couldnt connect to server from there on out.

dude, whats the problem, it's just like every other mp demo...

what rage said. All MP demos do this... Well most anyways. Homefront had their up for quite some time.
If you want to try it (longer then you already have) go rent it. You can get it for a buck a day from Redbox, and those things are everywhere now!

^Exactly. If you truly want to see how it plays, play SP demo, like all other games. Then rent it to test multiplayer.
Ubisoft would have been stupid not to remove the MP demo once the game came out. Every game does that. Why complain?

Do you have to buy an online pass if you rent a game?

Ubi totally messed it up so online is free.

As long as the 1 player demo didn't end, I can understand why they'd limit the online play after a certain playtime.
If they limited the 1 player too, that would probably cut off that extra time needed to decide if the game was worth exploring more in the full retail version, and wouldn't be a good move by Ubisoft. Just like their decision to keep players logged on at all times with PC.

Dude buy the full game it is definatly worth it.Only has a few quirks here and there.Still the best car line up I have ever seen in a game though the '69 Dodge Charger online is so freaking sexy to cruise in offline to haha.

Which games? And if so, THEY ARE DUMP.
Also, driver is one of the few BIG games that ACTUALLY RELEASED 2 DEMOS, ONE OF THEM, BEING A MULTIPLAYER DEMO. Seriously what did you expect? If you want to try the game now, after it's out, try the SP demo to see how it plays.
Afterall, the gameplay will always be the deal breaker.
You download demos to see if they are worth purchasing or not, mainly for the gameplay.

ok calm down, i get the impression you're confusing me with the OP, i dont care that its taken down, it actually makes sense to me that it be taken down because it wasn't working for a lot of people anyway which would cause them to doubt the full release. Its a safer option to only have a single player demo.
Now we have gone from "Every game does that" to "..if so, THEY ARE DUMP", now that is what i call progress.

If you can't afford it, then prob got bigger things to be concerned about than a GAME. obviously you can A: afford a 630 or PS3 and Internet, since you can down load demos all day. And please don't cop out and say they were all gifts and if you are a snot nosed little kid who's parents bout you everything, ask them for it. Lol I don't mean to sound harsh but the truth is the truth. Either you can afford it or you can't. You can live with in your means or you go broke trying to live outside of them.

Speak for yourself- one of the most downloaded files at a certain battlefield download site these days is the multiplayer demo for bf1942, a game from 2002. Quite a few people still play it too, and I can't see anything wrong with that.
Demo's aren't just about testing a game out before it comes out. They're about testing it out period. Multiplayer demos usually aren't -nor should they be- any different.

Those that do have the money generally don't have the time to play every game available. That's why there are limited demos (to entice you to this game) and you pick and choose what you spend money on.
Meanwhile it would be nice if everyone calmed down a little http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They are there for testing out the game. The gameplay is what the demos show.
The MP demos are limited, because the big companies know that MP is very popular and they would lose sales if they don't take down the MP demo after the game comes out.
Seriously, mentioning 1 game against all the others that did like driver doesn't prove my point wrong.
It's just common sense to take it down. Afterall, THE DEMOS ARE TO TEST OUT THE GAMEPLAY. If you want to test out something else rent the game. But the purpose of the demo is to highlight the gameplay mostly.

So then what happens if someone hears about a game for the very first time three years after the game came out? Should we all say "bad luck, you werent around before it came out, so no multiplayer demo for you!?" What if they just want to know if servers for the game are populated after all this time? Wouldn't a still-populated multiplayer demo be a pretty good indication?
Taking down a multiplayer demo for any reason other than technical difficulties is just ludicrous. I've bought games that came out twelve years previous because the multiplayer demos were fun and still populated.
You release your demos in a working state- and you leave it at that. Pure and simple.

^You're talking about as if Multiplayer is more important than gameplay. It is not. Seriously what's all the fuss about multiplayer. The gameplay is where it's all at, Multiplayer is a 2nd cause.
I never said I didn't understand your point, but from the company's point of view, it makes sense to take MP demo out because they would loose sales. In the end, the gameplay is suppose to be the deciding factor, that's why there is the SP demo. I can understand this too and for me, it makes perfect sense because gameplay comes first, then multiplayer.
brok2
09-12-2011, 05:32 AM
What are you talking about? Multiplayer IS gameplay!
And you're saying a company would lose sales if they kept available working multiplayer demos. That assumes that when someone is unsure about a game and can't test it out, they will choose to buy it to find out, rather than skip it.
No. No, no no, no, no. That's not how it works. Maybe on the off chance if a game is on a $5 steam sale perhaps, but most of the time people don't have the time nor inclination to buy a whole game just to find out if it's good. If people find a demo, and enjoy it enough, they WILL get the full game, no matter how long ago the game came out. If they like the demo but decide not to get the full game, they probably were never going to get the game in the first place anyway.
Assassin_Hun73r

Multiplayer is a feature of the game that takes advantage of the console's online playability, BUT IT IS NOT GAMEPLAY. It seriously isn't.
So that's why you keep the single player demo only. FOR THE GAMEPLAY.
MG_Driver
09-12-2011, 09:51 AM
I've bought plenty of games that haven't even bothered to release ANY demo. Hell, Even pre-ordered some of them.
If I need to try a game out that I cannot get a demo for, I rent it first. It's not that complicated. Redbox's are everywhere and you can get a game for a buck a night if you're smart. Blockbuster and Gamefly will send the game to your door.
I don't see the lack of a demo holding anyone back from buying this, and it probably costs Ubisoft money to maintain a server for the demo (As it was surely on it's own server and you wouldn't be playing with all the people in the real game).
