I posted this on the Myst Obsession forums, but I thought you all here might want to take a look as well.
-----
I maniuplated the photographs of Sirrus and Achenar in order to hopefully get a better straight-on view of them:

Definately new actors... but did you really expect Rand and Robyn to hop back into their old MYST costumes? :P
Anyway, these guys look good, asuming these are actual photographs, and not portrait sketches.
I also have redrawn the images for further refrence:

Can someone be kind enough to post a screenshot of Rand & Robyn's preformance of the brothers for comparison purposes?

Hi,
I'm looking forward to a more contempory look for the brothers, and for Atrus. Let me explain. Sure, the original has that "Myst style garb" (robes were big) and it's in some undefined time and place, but of course the creators were influenced by the style of the day. This really applies to hair styles. If I remember correctly, Sirrus and Achenar has hair that was early 1990s "fluffy" - Atrus too! I'm looking forward to an updated look for the entire family. Sirrus is looking pretty dapper in that picture.

They don't look so terribly different. If the actors are anywhere near as good as the fellow who played Gehn, I'll be more than pleased. Their performance will be much more important than the discrepancy in their appearance.

Yeah I agree, the new looks for Sirrus and Achenar look great. Like you say Sirrus looks very dapper in the new picture. I get the impression from the raised eyebrow, he's the one in control, hellbent on whatever he has planned and will follow it through. Where's Achenar looks more like a loose cannon, unsure, maybe regrets what's happened in the past, but Sirrus has him in control. All just speculation though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think the new Achenar looks a bit like Kevin Kline.

Sirrus looks exactly like Jimmy Smits. Jimmy basically made a name for himself on NYPD Blue and is currently playing Bail Organa in the Star Wars prequels. (Episodes 2 (Attack of the Clones) and Episode 3 (yet to be named).

I like the raised eyebrow on the new Sirrus. Achenar doesn't look as crazy as he did before, but that eyebrow on Sirrus is very telling. I bet he hasn't changed one bit.

Actually, Achenar -- at least in this fuzzy picture -- looks more like Sybok in "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (a movie best forgotten).

You mean Saavedro, not Gehn. Gehn was played by John Keston in Riven. Brad Dourif played Saavedro in Exile (and also Wormtongue in LOTR).

I thought that the actors were a good match for the characters. Both were a little "stressed" the last time I saw them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif, they're looking much more relaxed now. The new photo reminds me of the photo on Atrus desk in Exile with Sirrus and Achenar - wasn't there an easter egg for that pic or was it the other one? Actually I didn't realize that Rand Miller played Achenar AT ALL when I first played. Wasn't until recently that I'd read that he'd played both Atrus AND Achenar - he did a really good job! I agree too, Sirrus has that saucy look on his face with that eyebrow up - no good will come of an attitude like that. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yeah but in Myst Atrus is great, Sirrus is great, Achenar is kinda silly. Good thing Rand stuck to Atrus.

LaReh, that's called a "supercillious" = 'raised eyebrow' look. Tells a lot about a person or character, don't you think?

Well, Rand Miller is not a professional actor, though I think he does fine. Professional actors do add a whole level of immersiveness and realism to the game, in my opinion. I think Rand Miller doesn't like to act because he's not an actor.
I enjoy the whole saga of "will Rand Miller play Atrus"? I also sympathise with Rand, since I'm way past being young myself. It's funny how the choices we make when we are young come back to haunt us, later in life. From what I read, the Miller brothers acted in Myst more to save money than anything else. I'm sure they had no idea of the repercussions of their actions.
I think it's fine for Sirrus and Achenar to be played by other actors. They were only on screen, in Myst, in tiny little blurry images.

Naw, 'just' millions. Not hundreds of millions.
Personally, I'm not too crazy about the new look of Achenar. But the new Sirrus justifies the whole thing. His dapper look, his priceless facial expression--now that I like! Nothing against Robyn's acting ability in the first game, but this new actor looks like he has the face to play the villain of Sirrus--I always that Robyn looked too innocent for the role.

Did you take that from the intro movie, or is that a screenshot of the closeup you get when you click there pics in game?

That's from the intro. The game's a lot more brightly-colored. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm curious what the rating will be for Revelation. With Sirrus & Achenar? I doubt it will be "E". Maybe Teen?
Sirrus & Achenar act out an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon. There's blood everywhere.

I think that Rand and Robyn did a great acting job. I didn't think that Robyn looked too "innocent" for the role--the mustache and beard helped (I didn't even know it was him until I checked IMDB!). Plus, when he says the line in his next-to-final message, "But now, you are here to release me", with that smile on his face...Plus, he has an excellent evil laugh, albeit a forced one.
The way Rand played Achenar was a bit distracting with the constant nervous giggling (I still love it though), although I know that it is very difficult to "act crazy." On the whole, he was quite good, especially when he said the lines, "I will have my retribution" and "Of course, I had to warn Father, but when I finally found him, there was Sirrus also! Talking cleverly...(humorless chuckle) with the lying tongue of a serpent!..." The way he delivered those lines gave me a chill; there was no light in his eyes at all.
All in all, I'm scared of them both!
