Okay since opinions vary so extremely much, lets have a thread here where people state their opinion AND their background and taste in snowboard games.
My opinion:
I dont own the game yet so cant opine.
My background:
24 yo male vacation snowboarder for ten years.
Snowboard games I've played:
SSX 3 (bought it and hated it for its arcadefeel)
Amped 3 (tried the demo and hated it)
Supreme Snowboarding aka Boarder Zone (love it and feel it catches the feeling of snowboarding)

My opinion:
Very fun game. Online is loads of fun and will extend the replay value. Graphics aren't amazing but it's still a beautiful game. I love the different views, especially the far panned back view and the first person view (total rush)
Background:
29 and been snowboarding for 18 years
I've played every snowboarding game made to my knowledge.

Opinion: It's sucks. The frame rate is crap, the control is average, the constant info (which I now understand you can turn off?) is annoying, the mountains are FAR from huge! The camera can get weird at times (NEVER had this problem in any snowboarding game before!)
Background: 43 and have been gaming since long before most of you were on this planet. I have had just about every snowboarding game ever to be released on every console (Steep Slope Sliders (remeber that one? Saturn. It was GREAT for its time!), Cool boarders, SSX, Amped, 1080, ESPN snowboarding (whatever it was called-PS2)etc)
Bottom line is that the folks who say that it is great or that it is good are either easy to please (VERY easy to please) or just trying to convince themselves that they didn't waste their money on a game they have been looking forward to for a long time. You see this a lot. They want so desperately to like a game that they actually start to believe their own lies.
Now, having said that, this game is NOT atrocious. It is playable and does have some redeeming qualities about it. When it does run smooth it is nice (rare) and when you actually pick up speed (VERY rare!) it can be fun but these things are so few and far between that it just doesn't justify spending anymore than...I don't know...maybe $15? It is NOT a $60 game. FAR from it IMO.
If you're on the fence then do yourself a favor and rent it. You'll thank me for it. Trust me. I am EXTREMELY dissapointed with this game and have been looking forward to it for a very long time.
My only hope is that either the PS3 version doesn't have the FPS issues (i'm sure it does) or that the Wii's version is actually fun with the balance board. I have all 3 consoles so maybe i'll STILL get a good snowboarding experience.
We still have "Stoked" to look forward to. Hopefully it'll be the game I wish SWS had been.

dajzilla it must be the 360 because the ps3 isn't that bad. Yes there are framerate drops here and there but nothing too bad.
I can easily see why some people wouldn't like this game especially if they are the amped 1 and 2 elitist types but honestly there is a lot of skill involved when you start to learn how to play the game. Once you get the controls and feel for the game down and put it in the far back view it's like watching a movie.

Just curious smeace and dajzilla
You both said youve played all snowboarding games, what do you think about Supreme snowboarding (aka boarder zone)

I should have prefaced that with "console" snowboarding games. I've never played boarderzone.
edit: it looks like it was on the dreamcast as well so I stand corrected.

From the trailer i seen, Stoked looks like it captures that feeling of plowing through soft snow. That feeling is alfa and omega to a snowboard game, all the graphics and tricks and licensed snowboarders dont mean anything if it doesnt just feel good.
But Stoked is being advertised on its dynamic weather and the fact that your boarder gets snow on his suit when he falls - those are ******ed gimmicks that doesnt mean anything. Heres hoping for more.
Sometimes I feel like im the only one in the world that loves Supreme Snowboarding, but the other day I played it on my laptop at a lecture, now this week theres like 10 people playing the demo at lectures out of a class of 200.

I loved Supreme Snowboarding on the PC that is.
There was a small group of us who use to try and beat the best times for Alpine Easy, Forest, etc.
Still a great game even now, turn the music off and play at night(in game) for atmos.
Anyone have any idea when exactly the PC version of Shaun White is due. I have it preordered at Play at the moment. It says 28th Nov.

Yeaa dude, music = OFF, sound of wind and cracking snow owns everything.
My mate is down to 1:43 on Alpine Easy (in the demo) going through all checkpoints.

23 years old
Was addicted to Cool boarders 1 - 4
Have tried Amped 1 and 2
Was somewhat disappointed in shaun palmer pro snowboarding :P Yeah that game was horrible.
I've played some snowboarding games on pc as well, but they're so old that I can't remember the name
Oh, ski or die --> halfpipe ownage!
So "based on this" I like Shaun White Snowboarding a lot! I've played it for a couple of hours now and starting to get to know the controls. What a cozy game it iiis!

I see where you are going with this. This game has it's own feel in regards to powder. It doesn't give you that instantaneous gratification that you would crave from a snowboarding game but as you get better with the controls the style starts to come out. One thing this game does better than any other snowboarding game is tree riding. The trees are spaced out nice and have great lines and when you play with the panned out camera it's really a great feeling.

Nice review snowboarding101
Which of those games youve played were you hoping this would be the successor of?
Heres the first review I could find. It's from videogamer.com and they give it 60% - ouch! http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/shaun_white_snowboarding/review.html

Can someone post some footy on youtube please? And is there some kind of replay editor?

After playing the game for about 6 hours now I have to say in the beginning I was pretty disappointed. With the standard view I found the game no fun at all, and the movements looked horrible.
Once I changed the camera to the close-up, EA skate-like, camera and switched the 'change grabs and shifty' option on, the game became a whole lot more fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. The movements look way smoother and the clothing graphics simply are amazing.
I accepted the fact that the game is more arcade-like than the developers originally said and just started playing the game as realistically as possible. I have to say the game is pretty fun.
I have 1 major issue though: WHY THE HELL IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DO CORK 5's???
Seriously the bs cork 5 is probably the most popular cork spin out there so why isn't it in here? Hopefully the devs can fix this with a patch because it's pretty lame this way.
Too bad there aren't more brands in the game. I'd loved to see nomis, stepchild, dragon, electric, DC, volcom, neff, landing and elm company in (don't think i forgot any brands), but one can't have everything. Perhaps some more gear is added at the marketplace (I saw something about gear and xbox marketplace in a menu so there's hope I guess). I'd love to see some extra variations on the boards because only burton as multiple lengths on some boards (e.x. custom).
Overall It's a pretty good game.
My background:
18 year old park rider. I ride at least twice a week all year long (gotta love indoor slopes).
Now I'm back to playing the game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Yes there is a replay editor. Basically the same as Skate with a few more camera angles. Other than that its pretty much the same. You can modify the coloring, speed, camera angle, etc.

Because come on, there are more exciting things in life than videogames, perhaps instead of buying the PS3 and Wii, buy yourself a week at Whistler Blackcomb? Or Vail or something along those lines

Some people never get out of playing video games. I know for me when I get home from a stressful day at work i just want to relax my brain infront of a game. All three consoles isn't overkill at all. When you get a good paying job things, that you tink are big bucks as a teen and kid aren't that much at all...just keep your priorities in check.

Christ it seems Stoked will be a rubbish game as well, the guys behind it already made 3 snowboarding titles which all got pretty poor reviews.
HOW ****ING HARD CAN IT BE TO MAKE A ****ING SNOWBOARD GAME YOU ******S
Im gonna download an emulator and 1080 snowboarding, maybe that will soothe me

I didnt expect a Skate, I just at the very least expected something as good as the few good snowboard games released 5-10 years ago

i was expecting a skate. after all, the hard work was done for them...all they had to do was take skate, put it in snow, change the story, make their own improvements.
Everyone went mental for skate, so i dont understand y any new boarding game wouldn't have took a lesson from them.
I'm not saying rip it off, but dont try and reinvent the wheel either.

21 year old dudeguy. Snowboarding for 13-14 years.
Opinion:
I don't have the game, but by listening to the others it seems like a let down. I wanted a realistic environment in the snow, being able to progress, and pulling off a 1260 largest spin I've ever done would be like ****ing in your pants you'd be so happy. I think it should be enough and I probably will be satisfied but it will be disappointing that ubisoft could not create a better game.
Truth be told I am still super stoked for Sunday.

P-DRIZZL3 - what's your problem? As far as WHY I own all 3 is because I like gaming and I don't want to miss out on any exclusives. I don't even play that often but when I do I like to have the choice to play any game on any console. I make well over $100K a year so money is not an issue. I own a successful Ad agency and that keeps me plenty busy so I don't know your problem is or where you get off saying that.
Bizarre.
I am thinking my life is just a tad bit better than yours kid.
I'd say working 60 hours a week at my agency and teaching piano on the side (for fun) means that I realize that there's a little more to life than gaming. Not to mention I am married and have a stepdaughter.
Since when does owning 3 consoles equal no life?
What a jerk.

on a side note: I am glad your happy with your life, but you will have to realize that I live perfectly content at the age of 16 right now, I do have a job but other than that I really don't have any worries at this point. SOO ANYWAYS... Sorry sorry sorry about that, it was my mistake
