I believe someone went down there a long while ago, just as I joined the forum. I don't recall too many ships sunk on their patrol, definitely well below 100K... I'd say don't bother, unless you have a LOT of spare time on your hands

If your coming from europe, make your way to a refuel ship, somewhere in the mid atlantic, then run at 9 knots, all the way down the coast of africa, around the tip, all the way to the bases in Java. IT is a very long trip, running at 1024x Time Compression, it took me about 3 days real time running at 9 knots. I suggest you find a good book to read while your doing it! Once at the pacific bases, stay around austrialla and new zealand for small merchants, and stay around India's ports for a few too, there is a extremely small amount of ships, but many of them are large, so if you wait for them, you can bag some pretty good tonnage. I suggest you run at 9 knots at most of the time (except in like engagements, or where it is nessisary) because your boat will get the best fuel economy around 9 knots.

I don't have GWX, but what happens if you go off the grid?

By "the grid" you mean the AM, BF, CA, etc grid? If that's the case, then in stock 1.4b anyway, nothing special, it's just more ocean, with land plotted where it should be. The grid's only there to aid BDU (your boss) in defining for you where they want you to go. Should you sink a target outside the grid (like in the Murmansk convoy lanes north of Iceland), it'll just give you Latitude/longitude co-ordinates of where your kill occured. It's not like you fall off the edge of the earth or anything! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
