I don't think it's possible anymore. You have to sail all the way.
If you find a friendly harbor nearby, you can refuel and rearm and continue the fight without sailing all the way back to Pearl if that's where you're based. I've used the bases in Australia as refuelling and rearming bases and stayed on the front for more than a month now (still on patrol 3). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Is that what a "refit" is? I would assume so, but then I didn't get torpedo reloads. In any case, I just reloaded my save and docked instead.
What's the deal with the pop-up to end the mission? I can't seem to get it on a regular basis. Got it after mission 1, upon entering base, as expected. Haven't since at the end of mission 2 despite numerous reloads... Is there a way to force an exit of the mission? Wonder how you are to exit the mission if the program fails to identify the fact that you are returning to base. Hum...

What were they THINKING?
The one thing SH3 was missing was the ˜Arrive on Station' button that would warp-speed you right to your assigned co-ordinates, without having to plot your course out of the harbor, avoid other shipping, etc.
As if the 'thrill' of traveling half way across the Pacific (at 1024x that takes a while) isn't enough on the way out with a fully loaded boat. Coming back, without a torpedo on board and extensive battle damage is a total waste of time.
There's nothing wrong with having the option to do it if you want to, but what's wrong with having the option NOT to as well?
What were they THINKING?

Although I used to "warp" BACK TO BASE IN sh3, my conscience often used to ***** me at having "cheated" by avoiding mishaps after completing the mission. 1024 Tc has bewen improved to 8192 to reduce the length of time to RTB, still on 1st Patrol at the moment but I think I'll probably feel a warm glow of self satisfaction at having gone all the way out and back avoiding mishap. I can recall feeling guilty when playing Vanilla SH3 and warping back to base while under heavy attack and submerged - a "cheat" that was disable by GW and GWX.

Like I said: What's wrong with having the option to do so IF you want to?
