View Full Version : :( WHERE TO BEGIN LISTING ALL THESE RS RETAIL ERRORS....

well I guess I'll start here:

A lot of the basic functionality found in most games for graphics and sound like triple buffering, gamma, bi/trilinear filters, are nowhere ingame. A lot of it is found in 2 of the .ini files for the game. Ravenshield.ini in the system folder and User.ini in save folder.... WHY???
I am an avid PC user after 4+ years of trial and error and help from buddies, but more than half the people out here have trouble copy/pasting or finding properties for their equipment. So why then do you put all this stuff in the .ini files out of sight and totally unreachable to most?
A clan member found where the RAM usage settings were set in 3 places to 32 megs... O_O omg you got any idea how this game runs in 32 megs of RAM? Average package PCs are coming out with 128-512 megs RD/DDR RAM now days.. my rig is custom built with 768 megs DDR so why u throttle us all at 32 megs? lmao
Now let's cover some bugs.

CD Key invalid/in use .. The rest of this forum speaks of that 1. I have been getting this 1 as well. I went thru my registry editing, entered my cd key directly in the registry key entry for it then had to reboot for the registry change to take effect. I can now get into most servers without problem. Now and then I still get invalid CD key errors though.

that .50 cal Baretta sniper rifle... IT SUX!! I spent an hour and a half 2 days ago trying to get any use of it putting 3-5 rounds thru peeking heads and 3+ rounds thru chest armor... I died 4 of 5 engagements. I switched to Dragonov and WA 2k and did mad sniping. average 5-1 kills to deaths.. you do the math here.. In the world I am also highly knowledgable about firearms. The .50 caliber Browning round will penetrate any body armor ever devised be it laminate kevlar/kevlex, sheet steel, dendritic plate or what have you. yet it can't get thru medium kevlar in RS.
whatever you did to that thing, try and fix it please. whether you messed up the damage scale to where it's actually an outsized .22 rifle or if you accidentally loaded the ammo blank.. just fix it please.

Well then we get to the frag lock errors. Basically you switch to nade and it just sticks in your hand, arm drawn back to toss. you cannot switch back to other weapons o
r devices and you are stuck like that until round end our you die.

That brings me to the reload bug. You switch to any type nade, toss it or not then go back to any other weapon and when you go to fire, even tho you have a full clip and 1 chambered, it will not fire until you reload. gimme a frickin break... that 1 is strait out of the mp demo too.

There is a team join error that forces you to rejoin your team or go spectator then go back to your selected team to be able to click in ready.

There are various sound bugs as well. there is a reverberation effect at times on some maps that makes distant footsteps sound like someone on stilts walking on a tin roof. sometimes an echo-chamber effect that makes every sound around you echo faintly.
There is an intermitant glitch with weapon firing sounds if you are close to an object, door, wall or whatever. You see muzzle flash fine, targets take damage etc, but you hear no sound from your weapon. it's playable, but it is seriously cheesy and seriously needs fixed.
There are other little sound glitches here and there, mostly having to do with walking and floor type sounds but they escape me at the moment.

There is a bug in the server listings that keeps servers from updating properly with the correct player count, current map etc. I mean you load the server listings, look for a low pinging open game, you select 1 that says maybe 4 or 5 of 16 players. you click it and in a second or 3 it says Server Full. This is not just isolated to some very busy or laggy servers either. I get this every time I log on the serverlist.

You could do a lot more work on the maps to fix pixelization effects on some texture edges and objects. I am having to run the game at the absolute bottom settings on EVERYTHING to get descent playable framerates in multiplayer until I get a better graphics card but I can still see pixelization when I go around corners and when viewing some objects at certain angles. Some have referred to this as the maps being 'dirty'. I donot know what you call it, but I do know what needs done for it - More map optimization.

I want to add that most people I have been playing with in every server I have been on since getting my retail copy of Ravenshield on the 19th are getting some or all of these problems no matter what OS, graphics cards, sound cards and whatever else they are running.
Basically the problems are mostly in your game coding and you definately need to be working on some HUGE patching to address all this cuz you have pissed off a lot of people with this Ravenshield product you just released. This game has the potential to be great yet IF you can make good and fix all this stuff that should have already been fixed. If you don't fix your product though you can kiss my $$ and a lot of other people's goodbye foraver.

Oh, if anyone dislikes the length of this posting, TOUGH. Ubi ya should have released a better product or waited on releasing until it was acceptible so this would not have been necessary.

Thank You. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

lol thatz a WinXP issue with the administrator status on your system man. Numerous work arounds are posted here and there on the microsoft knowledge base and on windows hate boards. when I had that error months ago, I just went and redid my admin password login on my system in the startup menu and all was good.

I agree with Razerback. I forked over $50 to get what a screenshot every 30 secs. Guess what...Gamestop is getting this game back tomorrow and I'll get something else. I thought about trying Splinter Cell but screw that, I bet its the same bs as this game.

Ok, here is a direct copy/paste of the text in my Ravenshield.ini file in the 'system' folder. Look for the 3 <================= notations down thru the scroll and set these to around 50% to 75% of you rtotal system RAM.

peace

Ok. You oobviously seem to know how to do this, so maybe you could help me with the problem I'm having. I want to be able to use surround-sound on Raven Shield, but the frame-rate goes incredebly slow every time i do it. Know any tweaks for possibly fixing that?

is there not a couple of interesting things in their? Vsync?
HardwareVS what the hell is that? Trilinear? Going to do some testing to see what combos give good results. Will post later

Followed your instructions and set it to 750 (50% of my system ram of 1.5GB and received this error on RS startup:

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: GenuineIntel Unknown processor @ 2801 MHz with 1534MB RAM
Video: No Video

Ran out of virtual memory. To prevent this condition, you must free up more space on your primary hard disk.

History: FMallocWindows::Malloc <- FMemCache::Init <- UEngine::Init <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

I have 62.5 GB of free space.

You sure about this stuff?

I don't agree with you at all on this issue, R Back! I love the M-82 for sheer killing and knockdown power. The recoil is more intense than the other rifles, so the rate of fire is slower, but I pop peeking heads all the time with great success. Even a body shot with the M-82 is a kill, especially if the target is stationary.

It could be that maybe you're trying to fire the weapon too quickly and not letting the reticule settle between shots. A crouched or prone firing position is the best for accuracy, too.

*smiles* I'm proud of myself now. I've virtually fixed the sound problem. For anyone else who cares to hear, here's what i found.

Theres a Sound.ini in with all the other ini files for RvS settings. Turns out, the stinkin thing was usin almost 300MB for sound caching! I toned it down abit, and tweaked afew other things (like the cycle rate, etc...), and got the sound workin well. Now to get the graphics workin smoothly...

First of all these things are all wrong
default UT settings are just 8 Mb for engine cache!.
and it works just fine!. 32 Mb is high enought for a high res game for UT2003's engine like raven shield.

Also dont put exesively memory to engine, because thats the HDD size it will use in case it runs of main memory(aka ram).
other just one of these 3 options are for ram usage, but most of them are HDD CACHE in case they run out of memory.

if not, go check UT2003's ini files
or normal UT's

i run a P4 2.0 with 1 gig ddram, and a lowly 64meg nvidia video card. i set those three lines to 512, about half my memory. no change in gameplay as far as i can see. but also, my game didn't crash either. it ran just fine. i need a new video card, for sure.

well, about the Barret, I know my way around weapons too and I know as a fact that a Barret
is meant for light armored vehicles and can even penetrate an engine block! (as said in the game too)
however, for some reason, in RS it can't even get through a wooden plank!
it cuts the usefulness of the thermal scope to half of what it should have been as u can't even shoot through the thin
walls of a wooden cabin (as found for example in Peaks, my favorite custom map) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

they really should make more powerful so it will really be able to "pears an engine block"

don't know about your "3 rounds for a kill" problem though, the barret kills with one shot for me, especially in the head
