I'm beginning a thread for trailor speculation becuase I didn't see one.

So, we see the Bahro, Yeesha, and Myst Island for sure.

Other things include:

A Man

Other Ages

The Great Shaft (I think it's called that)

What do you make of all these? I haven't any good theories yet . . .

Over in the news area Al provided a link to RAWA's note on the trailor. A good idea to check it out.

I didn't really like the trailor. It sort of scared me that it looked like a game where you need a weapon or something (which is not my style, too much action). But according to RAWA Ubi made the trailor, not Cyan so basically the trailor looks practically nothing like the game. I feel relieved.

Well, everything from 0:55 through 1:23 is taken from the in-game engine, but isn't necessarily "game content" in the sense that you probably won't see things from those angles in-game. So while you could begin to make initial conclusions as to the visual quality of the game (which is spectacular, if'n you ask me... love the water washing onto the beach on Noloben), since we really don't have much of anything to really go on in terms of player-based views, it's tough to draw any sort of gameplay conclusions just yet.

That said, for being what it is, the animation quality of the opening and closing sequences done by Ubi impressed me, even if it's not relevant whatsoever to the actual game. But hey, that's marketing for ya http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. After the rather choppy and disjointed E3 trailers we had for Uru and Revelation, I've kind of gotten used to the fact that, when it comes to advertising, the marketing push is towards people who haven't played the games, while Cyan divvies out much more useful and relevant little treats and tidbits in the background http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Can't wait! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm not bothered by the quality of the trailer - I'm much more intrigued by the content. As Scythephantasm said, we see Yeesha, the Bahro, the guide Esher, and Myst Island. We're also given glimpses of Noloben and Todelmer, as well as the Great Shaft and K'veer. And the slate that we'll use in the gameplay.

But when we first see the Bahro, it is a shimmer in the grass - it doesn't materialise properly until it grabs the slate. Given that the Bahro can link, does this mean they can also travel in, what can I call it - a transdimensional form?

It implies that they could probably walk through walls, in which how did the D'ni manage to enslave them?

That's just my pennorth's worth of thoughts after finally getting to see the trailer this evening.

Cheers!

Actually, I just figured they could cloak http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Now don't be silly. Shields and cloaking device are two different machines. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've never had much patience with criticisms of games based on "this is 'old technology'". You don't dismiss a drawing for not being a photograph, so if someone wanted to publish another HyperCard-based game today, it wouldn't bother me that it didn't look like Half-Life2. That said, why would UbiSoft want to misrepresent Myst V by using material in a promo trailer which is technologically inferior to the game content?

Good to know somebody agrees with me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Well, I personally don't think the animation is all that bad, really, but while it is odd that the trailer largely implements pre-rendered images not used in the game itself, you have to remember that, in general, the marketing department of any firm has its collective head embedded in something so far outside of our concept of reality that it's almost beyond our abilities to comprehend why they do what they do, and is most often a waste of energy trying http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

You remind me of a quote:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">"So what happens is, the bozos in the marketing and accounting departments say, oh that sounds good, doesn't that mean we only have to make one of them and then sell it an infinite number of times? Don't squint at me like that, Arthur, this is how accountants think!"

I didn't really like the CG characters; their faces didn't seem all that expressive. Then again, the way they looked in the trailer is supposedly nothing like what the real game looks like. So, hopefully the CG characters will be improved when the game comes out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The trailer looks interesting in that thematically the Bahro were the villainous creatures, accosting the old man Esher for his tablet. Seeing as they're rather vague in theme in Uru, it's an intriguing development. Of course, if Ubi simply messed up...
