I was exploring Atrus Study more in depth after I beat the game thanks to 2 websites I found http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif. And I discovered near his desk a linking book, I opened it and it didn't work, it was a wierd animation. What was that book about? Is it a broken link to RIVEN?

Here's a pic:http://www.myimgs.com/data/KyleRTCW/Book.gif

Yes, it was a linking book to Riven.

Heuris,

You know that for a fact? How? Thanks!

Thanks, but why would he still have that book after 10 years?!!! And, that linking book looks a lot smaller than the thick one in RIVEN that Atrus has.

Gehn was contemplating the importance of "5" when he composed Riven, and thus the D'ni number "5" is part of the symbol which you see on the front cover of the book. Riven is also Catherine's home world, and no doubt a reason to keep the book.

plus you can't forget the importance of keeping an example for yeesha of how an age can become unstable.

the reason for the book in the beginning of riven being larger is that it was the original descriptive book that Gehn wrote. the book in atrus' study and any others besides the original descriptive book do not require a full description of the age in order to create a link (as long as the descriptive is still around somewhere). atrus needed to use the descritpive book in order to make the changes to the age.

Actually it's just the angle that makes it seem that way. Cyan provided Presto with the exact dimensions of the dictionary they used for the Riven Book http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

If you stand where the Releeshahn Book is located, you can see that the spine of the Book is actually rather thick, it's just kind of hard to tell from head-on when you're standing right in front of it.

Now, the Releeshahn Book's thickness is another matter entirely http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif. (Yeah, I have serious Myst obsession problems http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

I still don't see why that should be a Riven linking book.

1) The D'ni "5" has been stated to be significant to the D'ni people, so the symbol is likely to show up on all kinds of documents.

2) If the Linking Book's picture is a real-time look at something, you wouldn't expect to see a record of the destruction of Riven in a Riven linking book 10 years after its destruction, would you? Or if it shows the past, why the instant of destruction? Why not some time previous or later?

3) How do you know it isn't a link to D'ni during ITS destruction?

5 was no more important to the D'ni than 10 is to human beings http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

The panel shows static (rather organic static, yes, but still static), which is a stated effect of a faulty or inoperative link. How many Ages has Atrus Written, tacked a "5" onto, and subsequently found no longer work? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Heh, I won't answer that because it's something of a spoiler for Uru. If you *really* wanna know, send a PT off to me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Oh, and the official strategy guide, Presto, and Cyan have all said it's the Riven Book as well. I'm gonna go with the authorities here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Um...I don't think the Releeshan book is that thick...It's just BIG.
