MP Patch 1.01 released on 11/03/06 as an automatic download via Steam. Simply log into your account, and the next time you try to load Dark Messiah MP, it will install the new code.

MP Update 1.01 changes and bug fixes

- ?Can?t find background image materials/console/startup_loading.vtf? error: Due to incorrect registry key setting for Steam language, now fixed
- ¾ Loading Progression lockup: Fixed
- Loading bar: Now displays progress information
- Remembering skills on disconnect: When a player reconnects to a server the game should return him to his previous level. This will not work across campaigns (new campaign wipes all skills).
- Scoreboard fonts: Changed the scoreboard to ensure it displays 32 players even at low officially unsupported resolutions (e.g. 640x480)
- Main Menu: We have made sure the main menu displays even at low resolutions (e.g. 640x480)
- Battle Begins Message Flicker: Fixed
- Backstab improvements: We have made yet more improvements to the backstab system, making it smoother to trigger and preventing 'lockup' situations
- Assassin cloak / capture points: Now the action of taking a point is considered an 'aggressive' act and will de-cloak an assassin
- Stoneskin damage change: Stoneskin now lasts less long on priestesses than other characters. Stoneskin will slow a staff user's attacks down while stoneskinned.
- Leaping attack bug fixed. Knights must now sprint up to a minimum speed before triggering Leap Attack. Sprint forwards for 1/2 a second or so, jump and press fire to trigger the attack.
- Nvidia antialiasing code: Prevents users selecting an antialiasing mode their card does not support
- Alt-Tab is now re-enabled: This is officially unsupported and the users? mileage will vary depending on drivers/cards etc.
- Windowed Mode: Entering a command line parameter of ?-window? will enable the game to be played in a window.
- ?-width? will specify a standard resolution (such as ?width 800 for 800x600): Again, this is officially unsupported and mileage will vary!
- Game Servers in Steam Browser: Should now be visible in the standard out-of-game server browser

OMG I love you Kuju.
Though personally I'd rather have it so cloaked assassins *can't* capture a flag, than having the flag-capturing process de-cloak them. That could be really annoying when the area is contested (i.e. a bunch of guys on the other team are coming your way, so you cloak at the flag to backstab them once they get there)
Oh, and thank you esp for adding ALT-TABing back in. This was so freaking annoying when the game froze and I had to restart my entire computer to get out.

Looking forward to this patch.
A bunch of major game issues are fixed. I especially like XP saving - finally! Hopefully the missing sounds on non-ubi servers, and regular memory error crashes will be looked into, as well.

Backstab needs 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 beta style momentum boosting too. Being able to trigger the backstab and not have it lock up is one thing, the other problem is the constant misses on moving players (esp. players that are running directly away. Backstab can trigger several times, but it doesn't carry you forward enough to actually reach your target, all while draining your entire stamina bar).

I think this is a bad idea. People already AOE capture points and use prediction attacks against assassins as it is - it was never an issue. Most of the action takes place on and around capture points, and an assassin not being able to cloak or constantly decloaking while running past a capture point would be unbalanced. I for one would exploit this by camping around flags and making assassins run around/through them to get to me so they become entirely useless.

Excellent! This will definitely improve the quality of gameplay. No more untouchable one-woman armies that solo flags and tank teams of 5. If they want to keep stoneskin up on themselves, they will have to constantly pay for it.

There's really no need to nerf priestess attacks further, since the damage was already lowered in 1.1.2 beta. The main issue with priestesses were their godly survivability, which made it possible to eventually wear down a group of people in a prolonged fight - not because they had especially good melee attacks. The lowered stoneskin duration for priestesses is just perfect, which makes this change unnecessary (priestesses should still be able to fight effectively, but they must pay for it by spending a boatload of mana to constantly refresh stoneskin. Think of it as speccing in a different skill tree, where the limitiation isn't the skill points you have, but mana supply).

This is another unecessary balance change. The range and arc for melee attacks are already so poor that warriors have no chance of keeping up with levelled ranged units that can one or two shot them. The good thing about leap attack is that a warrior actually has a chance of killing stoneskinned enemies while trapped in bramble spam. Even outside of brambles, it is incredibly easy to sidestep and dodge leap attacks due to the poor weapon range (the attack doesn't even coincide with the end of the weapon model). This change will only make warriors become more predictable for my lightning bolt and dual arrow shots - if anything, melee units need an across the board 1.5x weapon range and swing arc boost.

I'm finally looking forward to actually playing the game with people for a significant time without it freezing on me during loading.
I hope they get the patch released soon. I mean anything is better than not being able to play for a significant time like it is currently. So just approve it already if it has some minor bugs in it I'll wait for the next patch as long as I can play.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but it's quite annoying.
while running and you hit a slope or small slant you go flying off of it like a ramp or something. really annoying sometimes.
example: wooden steps on L_MP3 to get to the main bridge from the forge. while turning one of the corners to go up the other flight of steps above you go shooting off. i've fallen off the side like 2 times in a row before because of this.
also, is the warriors shield not always coming up while fighting by design? sometimes i get stance whacked like 2 times before i can even put a shield up once.
i know this isn't the right post to put this under i guess, but i want it to be seen.

Acheval may i ask you a question will you add colisuem it says you guys have it in the game manual.Thats cool and call but one of the big reasons why i bought Dark Messiah is Becuase of online Colsiuem(aka like a gladatior arena).it says you have it in the game manual is there any chance you guys will add this and Capture the Flag.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Warriors are stunned a little when they get stance whacked, so you can't immediately pull up your shield.

I don't like assassins getting de-cloaked when taking a flag. As someone else said, easily exploitable by hanging around flag area. Maybe if the Flag is neutral you can't cloak and take it, but I think if the flag is in enemy control you should be able to run through it/take it without being de-cloaked.
Backstab improvements are always good =P
I like stone skin change as well, and all the technical changes are definitely welcome.
Question: Today I think DMoMM got its first influx of hackers. Some guy named PooTart (?) and carrotz (Might of been someone else...think it was carrotz) would be priestess, and Stone skin. It seemed like they auto-healed, they were able to tank 6-8 members of team for a long time before they died. Every time they were about to die, they would heal. At first, I figured my team was just whining, but when I actually saw it I think they were right.
So does Kuju know about this?

It sounds like you were thoroughly pwned.
I've played with Poodart and Carrot several times before; their priestesses kind of suck. I'd hardly call them haxors. It's more likely that the people in your pub were really, really awful.
With the decreased stoneskin duration on priestesses, they won't be able to tank teams of 6-8 anymore (not for long, anyway). Something still needs to be done with bramble spam though. Two patches is one patch too many, especially when you have 2 or more priestesses on a team.

Off the record (DOH!) you will see CTF and Coliseum in the near future - yes!
We held them back, as we wanted to work on both modes further and I promise you that the Kuju team is beavering away on both of these at the moment,as well as other fixes and enhancements.
We also plan to release some performance patches, including asset sets for lower spec machines, to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy a fast multiplayer experience!
I will keep you informed through the community managers as much as I can!

See, thats exactly what I was thinking when someone accused PooDart. I was thinking to myself..This guy sucks, what the hell is wrong with my team. But then when I saw him he was near impossible to kill. I guess theres no way to actually prove that he had something healing him everytime He got close to dying, but I honestly think he did. I had never played with Carrotz before though.

It stinks that the patch is strictly multiplayer when the patch everyone's been asking for is single player. However, I understand that there are two different teams, one for single player and one for multiplayer. Each team worked on a patch, and multiplayer finished first, which is understandable because single player had more problems to fix and therefore more work to do.

I cant understand why all of you is so happy about this update, you still cant play MP on high settings and still it freezes in the map change so i'm still pissed and will probably return this game on monday to buy Bully, this update dont help at all with the real problems, to be hyper happy like some of you are is just ignorant. How is it that you're making all these changes, and nothing is being done about the RIDICULOUSLY overpowered mages in MP.
Anyone who actually believes mages are fine at the moment needs to be shot, brutally, in the testicles.
They're FAR too overpowered. Every game I'm in, the top scorer is always a mage, with a stupidly high score, because they run around one hitting everyone with skills that charge up while they move and don't take that long to charge in the first place.
A mage can run into an area, cast some sort of chain lightning attack and kill 5 people in an instant. Fair? I think not.
A mage can run into an area and cast a big *** frost ball attack, and kill 5 people in an instant. Fair? I think not.
A mage can cast a small attack at a melee class, take half their health, then turn and run away while charging up another attack, only to turn around and fire it at them again before the melee class is even close enough to deal damage. Fair? I think not.
A mage can stand in a single spot and fire overpowered attacks at players below, and kill them instantly or seriously damaging their health, leaving them crippled and unlikely to do anything worthwhile in that life. Fair? I think not.
I have yet to see any other class dominate the battle like mages currently do. It is most certainly not because the person playing the mage is a "Skilled player", because I played a mage for the first time and by the end of the game my score had trippled with about 3 deaths in the process.
It's far too easy to kill people, and far too overpowered in general.
Seriously, this needs to be sorted, I can't believe you're letting these players roam free and demolishing the battles so easily.
For an example of what I am talking about, here's a screenshot of a recent game. The lead player had been in the game for a total of about 5 minutes, 10 at most, and somehow he accumulated a score far higher than anyone who had been there for the whole game. Notice the fact he's a mage.

As you can see, the top two players are mages, with high scores, and the highest is just absurd for someone who was in the game for no more than 10 minutes. I kid you not.
So, do mages need to be nerfed? **** Yes.

Here's another couple of examples as to why mages should be nerfed.
Take a look at the scoreboard, take into account the top mage's scores, the highest scorer on their team, and then use the console shot to gain an idea on how he does it. Spamming the same move over and over again, for 4 instant kills every 5 minutes or so.

Usually unless there are MANY mages on one team and they have been playing the whole time to get full level I never notice mages doing that much damage. (Mostly teamkills which stop them from leveling much) It seems the more people the more they get screwed/killed.
I've never even played a mage once and I don't think they are that terribly over powered.
Though, there is those times that I have seen them doing lots of damage/getting lots of kills, but not that often.
EDIT: I noticed also that it now seems like Leap is impossible to trigger. May way to look into it.
Also, I saw some VERY strange assassin backstabs going on, mostly on his teammates. I was standing couple feet BEHIND my teammate assassin as he backstabbed an enemy and he killed me also. Also saw an assassin backstab an enemy while another enemy was infront of the person he backstabbed and a couple feet ahead and he died also.

No, but he is my favorite Artist, I've chatted with him a few times. He did the covers of my MOST favorite books too. And yeah, Lightning orb will sweep up WHOLE groups, as you can very well see. These notes are good and all, but something's missing. Well... The only imba skill is the lightning sphere imo. It's easy to do a lot of fourfold or even fivefold kill. Just take a look of how easy a mage is, when he gets the lighting sphere skill:

And for lightning sphere, which I don't use as a mage (it's too slow and can be deflected by Magic shield or Warrior shield skill).
Only noobs die because of it :O
Did anyone notice the assasins "remote" bomb is being abused? For instance: you run behind him, he drops one and detonate it immediately, U die while he only takes a scratch.

I dont understand if this MP patch is out yet, but my multyplayer is kind of fixed

But now I can get past that but I the problem where it freezes at 3/4 loaded.
I tried to verify the files, but it never worked. I need some help, unless this patch isn't out yet, then Ill be able to play MP when it does come out
before the patch I never had any performance problems, but now i do. i have a gforce 7800GC and i have the latest driver for it so i doubt it has to do with my video card. also, mat_picmip 1 doesnt do anything.

Ah, I will agree with the assassins bombs in general.
They're spammed to hell in some matches, and while it's theoretically a good strategy to use, it's pretty lame and unfair to just constantly blow the **** out of people while you stand around the corner and never actually engage in combat. Surely that must get pretty boring, but obviously not for people who care more about their score than having fun.

No-one is saying that mages are unkillable. Calling people n00bs for saying something like the lightning orb is OPed achieves nothing. I usually play as assassin, have been playing since closed beta, and I know what I'm doing (I'm generally the top scorer on my team). During beta, we were restricted to 3 rounds per campaign (at least on the Multiplay Euro servers). If you were good, you'd usually be around level 8 or 9 near the end of this, with the majority being around level 5 or 6. Lightning orb showed up a lot less in these matches, so its flaws were not so obvious. Now the campaign can last a lot longer, more people are unlocking the high-tier abilities and spamming the hell out of them.
Even as a patient assassin, hiding and waiting to use my (horribly unreliable) backstab, a mage with a lightning orb can kill me WITH HIS BACK TO ME! Combine this with faster mana recharge, it can be spammed very frequently and requires very little skill to use against any melee class. It's been suggested before that the orb shouldn't gain its full damage potential until it's travelled a bit, and certainly should not damage people standing BEHIND the mage when he launches it. This might be a good step towards balancing it.

Ok I have no idea if I got this update automatically. There's no update news and I'm noticing no difference in my performance.
My frame rate is still ****.
And how about fixing the priest's healing? I blow all sorts of mana only to have a teammate strafe away and I've lost all the mana and they aren't healed at all. At least make it so it only takes mana if it heals them. Or if you click somebody, lock the healing spell onto them until the spell is cast.

My Steam downloaded it but it doesn't say anything about it in the update history. The update wasn't large so maybe your Steam updated when you didn't notice.

I still have big performance issues. The greater number of players on the server, the greater are my fps drops. A large number of players on the server can make my fps drop to <20 even if there is no other player in sight.
During combat in areas with several other players my fps drops to below 20. In really big combats it can drop to 10. I have tried to turn down the graphics to the lowest settings (with the options in game and by changing graphic variables in a custom autoexec.cfg). This doesn't do much for my fps, if any. But the game looks really crappy while playing it.
So the graphical part doesn't seem to be the problem. Maybe there's a heavy load on you CPU due to bad programming? With the fact that the number of players on the server impacts my fps so severely, even if there is no one near me, maybe that isn't so crazy.
Hopefully Kuju will figure it out and solve some of it in an upcoming patch...

Yeah I have the exact same problem. Tech support keeps giving me the runaround and telling me to change my drivers, instead of actually addressing the problem.

two things i noticed after the patch. (though, i think fixed now after a re-install)
the 3/4 lockup on load is fixed for the most part. but, sometimes i still freeze up in random places. this has happend one or two times so far, i get up for a bit to get a drink or something then i come back and my game never loaded. also, just recently, i've noticed sometimes while connecting i'll just drop back to the main menu. but there is no buttons or options there and i see a black steam window (round corners so i think it's steam) that just says cancel. it's just solid black with nothing and the only option is to cancel. then i go back to the normal main menu.
also, the loading bar is like moved over a bit, also the tips that is near the top right corner is a bit off the screen. image below:

though, like i said i just reinstalled the game to see if this fixes anything, and the problem in the image above is gone. hopefully it fixes the other problems i mentioned also.
oh yeah, and something else i've noticed, not due to patch, but a weird game bug.
i've noticed while jumping off of something and in the air, and get hit by one of those weak fireball or lightning spark things that mages can shoot out multiple ones at a time. it sends me flying across the map.
one time i jumped off something and it shot me forward quite a distance.
another time i jumped off a small ledge to land on a mages head, while falling he looked up and saw me and shot my feet. it sent me straight in the air flying, enough to give me severe falling damage.
and for the love of god, please fix the issue with when running and hitting a slight ramp in or angle in the ground you go sliding off like if it's made of ice. this has made me fall off things more than i can count.

I don't know where to download the patch, if it downloads automatically it didn't do a thing. I have this same error all the time, while its loading to get into a game the WHOLE screen goes blue, completely blue. And it does the same thing for single player too. FIX IT!!!
