View Full Version : Two Worlds: The Join-Up Thread

Since a number of us have expressed (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4091020922/m/1911011755?r=4591016475#4591016475) an interest in the RPG Two Worlds, I've reserved a thread for purposes of organizing one or more adventuring parties in advance of the game's release next month.

At present, players can select only one of two races &#8212 human and elf &#8212 but between the number of classes and accoutrements, the size of the game's world, and the potential for fun so eminently possible with our laugh-a-minute bunch, Two Worlds looks like a fine way to spend the last weeks of summer.

Resources: Here is some general game information (http://www.insidetwoworlds.com/index.php), including a list of character classes (http://www.insidetwoworlds.com/index.php?page=article&id=26613).

All are invited to join. If necessary, a list can be posted of players and intended classes to better balance parties.

So it's a maximum players of 7 that can join a hosted world, but is it restricted to those same 7 players?

If I were just basing my comment off of that one incident yes that would indeed be profiling. However you have a history of team killing. To highlight this all I have to say is "repel rope". I'll consider this matter resolved http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

While I have indeed shot slick off of a repel rope, it should be mentioned that you started the whole thing. Of course this does not stop them from being hillarious to hear about.

Givin a previous convo had in IRC I will probably main in Fire Mage and dabble in Air. Fact is we have one healer as pointed out and if you can multi class I might as well chip in a little since I will be a caster. Make no mistake, just because I CAN heal doesnt mean I WILL heal :P. Putting things ablaze comes first.

This is suggestable for all classes to be honest. As proven in WoW by Draeni Warriors there is nothing better than a tank that can heal himself. Self preservation is key because you can bet that Dayfish will run out of mana... or life... then we are all fux'd. I dont care if we all go balls deep in our mains but having even a lesser heal is like keeping an ace in your pocket. Not to mention we have enough people to be running 2 worlds by now so one group of 7 is going to be without a healer.

This is just food for thought, but extra healing will never hurt.

BCA
07-18-2007, 04:43 AM
I am just going to toss out ideas and **** randomly throughout this topic. So far out of 14 people we have a possible of 8 going melee. Not says dont play what you want, by all means do but be ready to spend some money on pots or a few levels in healing. I certainly know I cant burn **** to the ground if I am taking a dirt nap.

Air mage. And it's smart to have people who have at least learned some sort of healing spells, like Boo_master said just in case the main healer goes down. That draeni racial healing spell really came in handy for the tanks, that's for sure...too bad I was horde, heh.

I'm surprised not many other people are interested in the other schools of magic and would rather go melee. I was always into casters, but I guess the knight class and sword dancer does sound interesting.

Well, Its always good to have a lot of fighters to jun interference so the mages have time to cast spells. I wouldn't be opposed to running a mage class but figured most people would be choosing to do the same.

Edit: Quick question but why do people keep saying 7 person teams? From what I have read, there is a host and 7 people join their game. Wouldn't this mean an 8 person team?

This game is broken down into classes/jobs but it is structured much differently than FFXI. Granted you cvan dual class in FFXI, but in Two Worlds you are pretty much able to train ANY skill you want. Granted being a jack of all trades makes you useless in endgame because of lack of power and being specialized in an area.

Consider this the latest dividend in abiding congratulations.

To everyone: as far as we understand the multiplayer setup for Two Worlds, an adventure is held (and can be conferred to another) by a single player. The remaining seven party slots can be filled by anyone &#8212 for example, if for three days in a workweek I host parties of different sizes and rosters, and then pass the authority of "leader" to, say, Magiz before I go off for the weekend, up to seven players can, with Magiz, continue to play in the gaming world as affected by adventuring the three sessions prior.

I don't want to split the whole of us if unnecessary; but to avoid confusion in two weeks, if players do reflect the number on the list, we should keep potential leaders in mind.

Excellent work, Grog. And, too, it's good to see the Chromehounds gang again.

Speaking of the game: at one point, all twenty roster places in the 13th Light Cav. were occupied, and yet only a few sessions required two or more groups. Why don't we try taking on ten?

Also: we'll need alternate leaders. Magiz comes to mind. Anyone else?

NVMind my previous answer. I think I will make a

Class: Barbarian

Parameters:
Vitality: 8 Dexterity: 3
Strength: 9 Willpower: 0

or a

Class: Knight

Parameters:
Vitality: 7 Dexterity: 5
Strength: 7 Willpower: 1

I just re-started playing Oblivion and I made a mage/archer type of character and I didn't like the feeling of it. I'm afraid Two World plays the same way on the magic department.

Two considerations: first, if eight prove to be too much, groups of four or five may be a remedy. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Second, there are reportedly no communal spells right now, precluding the "healer" role.

One of the content-rich fan sites, Two Worlds Vault, has commentary (http://twoworldsvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=13) on multiplayer; especially as it pertains to the latest patch. There seems to be a pair of guiding principles. First, relative difficulty when starting out (and perhaps by deduction, the value of working in parties):

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">[N]ot all Classes are easy to play; in fact, there are some which are the only viable options for some loner-multiplaying types out there, who don't want any help from other players. For instance, you won't be able to do anything at all with your Necromancer, unless someone gives you money to start, or some spells. ...Only some classes have an easier start. The best and most proven option for those, who wish to first earn cash, then go killing, is either the Mage or Thief option. The best option for those who want to plunge into bloodbaths early on is to choose a barbarian or a sword dancer. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Second, latitude in character development:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">In essence, for gameplay in multiplayer, classes are nothing but a preset. You can shape it freely later on, so don't get caught in the typical RPG dilemma ("An archer or a ranger? A mage or a thief?"), cause this is not Diablo (where spells/skills were tied to classes) or Oblivion (where skills chosen affected leveling). Here, you can &#8212 and will &#8212 become ANYTHING you want to. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

We'll know for ourselves in a week's time.

MoltenGrog

As the release nears, I thought I'd pass on some information on one of the creatures we'll be seeing next week.

The Tulok
http://vnmedia.ign.com/twoworldsvault.ign.com/fms/images/monsters/7/1184547237_thumb.jpg

The Tulok are headless monsters - they live only in the underworld. No one knows how these beasts lost their heads over the ages - but everyone knows that they're one of the most dangerous entities ever to evolve on the planet! In the dank, pitch-dark passageways of the dungeons, eyes are an unnecessary luxury anyway... so being headless is probably an advantage for these horrible creatures. The Tulok go berserk in the narrow passageways, bringing certain death to all but the fleet of foot. They also have an unbelievable amount of endurance while fighting.

and a few screenshots:

There is talk, complete with claims of direct confirmation from retailers, that the game's release has been delayed three days. How the rumor contends with the nature of manufacturing and distribution &#8212 which is the phase the game must surely be in &#8212 I don't know.

But for wounded pride, three days doesn't make much of a difference; and no official source has made any such announcement.

The American publisher has announced a revised release date of August 29th &#8212 next Wednesday.

This calls for more Chromehounds.

Edit: The circumstances of the delay aren't clear, but from claims of those working for distributors (whose prior claims of an end-of-month release are now substantiated) copies are in stock but are under request (or contract) to be held. And, apparently, the burden of idle merchandise is leading some to grumble about "breaking release."

They received it today but aren't selling them because of some language problems. It needs to be in English and French. Must wait till Thursday.

This is looking quite like the Chromehounds of roleplaying games. It will probably be panned, perhaps rightly so, as the game's interface and environment is years behind Oblivion's.

That said, since I purchased Two Worlds to play with others, if lag turns out to be a localized problem, those of us still planning to buy the game should have a lot of fun.

After a night's sleep on it, I am enjoying the game as well.

As far as graphics and animation, even some mechanics &#8212 think KOTOR, not Oblivion. Items can be readily used, thanks to a more forgiving skill and specialization system.

Horses are a thrill. And instructive:

Q. Why is horse-riding so difficult?

A. Because your horse-riding skill is 1, you Schmendrick.

Is it just me or does it seem like they didnt really put too much effort into the coop portion of the online play? XP sucks when doing it as a group and gold for turnins doesnt split between the players. Not to mention I still dont see a way to party up in this game.

See I was thinking before that I was definitely getting this game. Unfortunately then I started hearing all sorts of very inconsistent user reviews (Think what you will of 1up.com, but the user reviews ranged from a 1.0 to a 9.5 - talk about scary). It's $60 out of my pocket that I can't always just impulsively throw away (I do that a bit too often), so I was thinking of waiting just a bit longer for more concrete reviews to come out on it.

Thanks for the tip on the demo, guess I won't bother with that one :-\

It desperately needs a patch and we need the american servers back up (both of which I hear are happening tomorrow). In multiplayer RPG (there really isnt a coop yet) you are better off leveling solo than in a group based on how they divide XP (XP you get per kill is based on the amt of dmg you did to the target). Quests dont share rewards so its the first person to turn it in get the only reward for the quest. So far my and slick have had a hell of a time on the MP because of the XP system and the friendly fire (for once I actualy didnt mean to shoot my ally but the auto targeting system Two Worlds uses is hard to manipulate and will often target the wrong stuff including other players who take full dmg from all of your spells and attacks).

Other than that once you get through the learning curve and get used to the system you can move along pretty smoothly in it. Combat for you as an Air Mage is going to be expensive because you go oom pretty fast at the start (quests give a ****ton of money though) and you will need all the mana pots you an get. As a caster Melee is the worst option you can choose. Its more efficient to run around and regen and employ hit and run tactics. Once you get a few levels going and a few spells under your belt (btw there is no way to heal other players that me and slick can see so far, maybe there is a heal other spell down the road for him on his air mage but heal will only cast on himself so far) things start to go by fast.

What level is everybody on MP now? Got my Fire Mage upto 16 earlier today but it is way to easy to play as one since I can roll out a constant 3-4k dmg every few seconds. Casters seem to have the easiest time leveling as far as I can tell right now.

It's a game that grows on you, you must give it a chance. The mechanics are unusual and somewhat cluncky but the gameplay is fun and if you like to explore then this is a great world to do it in.

I haven't done the multipayer yet, due to the lag and XP issues. But overall it is very addicting to play, after the first couple of hours.

You have to find some people that you have a good connection with. I've been playing everyday online with a couple of other people and have had no lag.

Has anyone beaten a Lava Dragon yet? Friends and I have tired so many times with no luck. We even brought it to a town with nothing but warriors with red capes and they all died.

As an observation: none of the three negative reviews I have read are accurate. Each was written as if its author saw the potential for a comic vituperation and, for the sake of consistent rhetoric, exaggerated or even fabricated descriptions of the game. Here, an online magazine like Gamespot is due some respect, having reviewed Two Worlds for what it is: flawed, but fun.

That just about sums up this title. Sure, I WISH Two Worlds was without its technical flaws, but if one can bear to overlook these (and anyone looking for a cooperative RPG that sports Phantasy Star-trumping depth should be able to), they're bound to have a great time playing.

Yes. If multiplayer can be shored up and broadened, the game might have longevity.

DreadNemesis

After playing the game for the past few days I only have a few small gripes. The first of which that the inventory interface is a bit clunky. Moving around does not feel natural and checking quests becomes difficult as it's very hard to tell just what you have selected. The next thing is the text that's at the bottom of the inventory. It blocks out all the other writing that's down there, and as far as I can tell there's no way to get rid of it.

Multiplayer is very laggy but a patch should be able to fix that up nicely and give this game some legs online.

Otherwise I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. People who are trashing the game really have no idea just what they're talking about.

The pc ver. has to be a failure. This review pretty much sums up the issues on the 360. Not really a good game at all.
