What settings are you using? I will recommend you to go to www.tweakguides.com (http://www.tweakguides.com) and check the FarCry tuning guide... that might help you even more than spending money on more memory...

I usually use medium but my fps is perfectly fine. I want to run it on very high, it runs okay, but the fps drops alot in heavy battles and stuff. Will a gig of ram help keep the frame rate stable on very high?

I don't think it will help you a lot... maybe the level will load quicker and you'll have less choke points due to load things into memory while in game... to run everything in very high I will say to need faster GPU and CPU but don't take my word for granted...
