View Full Version : Is it just me or should Noloben be the Island of stuffed birds?

I played the demo yesterday and there were tons of low-poly static birds just placed on rocks that you can get very close to. Does that strike anybody else as strange?

Yeah, those birds gave me a laugh. When I first noticed them, I decided to creep up on them just hoping that they would move. For some reason, the Bahro must like bird statues. Did you notice the snake slithering around in one of the caves?

Yeah, I saw the snake twice. When I completed the stone puzzle and I walked through the long cave it seemed like I was walking through the same section of cave over and over. I got cut off just after I saw the second symbol for the slate. I wonder if I could draw the second symbol and have it do something in the demo?

I've figured it out... the reason the birds are stuffed is...

They are just placeholders for animated penguins http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Those are "Low-Polly Parrots," and this is their natural behaviour. (Remember, Noloben isn't on earth, and we can't expect the creatures to act like earth creatures.)

Or try this... they're "Barnacle Birds," and they need to be scraped off every few years. Or maybe they're not birds at all, but some form of lichen that mimics the shape of birds as a form of protection. Or the rocks have eroded, exposing a whole lot of bird-shaped lumps.

I REALLY need to get back to work...

"Low-Polly"? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif Good one, Mowog!

They're just tired and shagged out after a long squawk. Or maybe they're simply pining for the fjords. But they've got beautiful plumage!

HA! Yes, a good thump on the countertop should wake them up. Or stun them, just as they were waking up.

I had a look at the Myst 5 demo and I must say I am hugely disappointed. It is a copy and paste of URU and that’s all.

The most creatures in the background are static, you cannot jump around in the freaking game, the puzzles are lame and the voices of the people are stupid. The tablet thing half works and is a waste of time, what is up with that.

The characters look like they are floating 1 cm above the ground. There are graphic problems here and there. The character faces looks like they have been stretched and their facial textures look horrible. The rain is pretty lame and I don't see any audio clues. When you move around in 3D free mode it is too fast and looks like you are running on a slippery surface. You don't hear footsteps and you can't climb things without the game taking over. The creatures look like static stuffed animals. Characters clothing sometimes flap right through there bodies. They must be joking if this is a huge technological step in gaming than all previous Myst games. The UI load screens look exactly like URU. The originality of the games is a big question marks for me, as there are similarities to URU and other Myst games. In the short development peroid of this game, I would have guessed this was going to be a copy and paste job. Anyway, I will still buy it to kill my curiousity of the story line and it better end in a big bang, unlike URU. LOL

Could be that we can't get close enough to the creatures to bother them enough to do anything. Like the reply earlier that mentioned sneaking up to them to see if they would move - shades of Riven when the walrus-like creatures moved when you got close enough. So in the full game maybe we'll get access to be closer to them and they can run away into the sea if we startle them.

At least the ones that are flying around are moving!

if you look closely and wait long enough some the birds do move.
