Does anyone know if your attacks can damage your teammates in Dark Messiah multiplayer? Also, in your opinion, would friendly fire be a positive or negative addition to multiplayer?

I dont think that this could be a great idea... mages can do a lot of accidentally damage to their teammates with their spells... However they can enable an option that allow the hosts of the games to enable/disable Friendly Fire but i dont like the idea at all...

"...mages can do a lot of accidentally damage to their teammates with their spells..."

I think this would be a good thing. It would provide new tactics for the melee classes to utilize against mages. For example, to avoid attacks from an enemy mage a warrior could move within close range of another enemy. This would make the mage hesitant in firing his spells at the warrior because he might injure his ally by mistake. In my opinion the new strategies friendly fire creates would help balance the melee and magic classes.

I think friendly fire would be better... less cramped batles then, mages are not so easily overpowered, archers are not so easily overpowered and you get to find out what folkes are good to play together with and who are idiots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not to mention it would ad a dose of realism. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Friendly fire is in the game. You have to watch out when shooting arrows or throwing fireballs into a crowd, especially if friendlies are around. It's much better that way, less random spamming and more precision/skill involved. Crusade mode is like Battlefield in that the first team to lose all their tickets loses the match, so you are basically sharing lives.

You can probably toggle it off for casual servers, just like in every other game. The guys on the MP team did Battlefield and Medal of Honor, remember?

I found out that friendly fire is going to be included in Dark Messiah multiplayer. Go to this website, http://gameswelt.de/artikel/index.php?id=1717, and watch the mage video. Within the first minute the speaker mentions friendly fire, and he says that mages typically end up with the most team kills.

In the video he mentions it as if there won't be an option to turn it off, which I hope there is. Friendly fire absolutely needs to be switchable for pubs.

Yeah, keep on getting teamkilled by a noob (but high level) mage would suck, indeed.

Take a look at the game Rainbow Six, for example. One of the most successful shooters to date (before the CS onslaught, of course), has never, ever had a toggle for friendly fire. Certainly there are people which will abuse that, but that's why controls are implemented (via voting system, setting TK limits, etc.). If mages felt as though they could lob fireballs into crowds of people without fear of melting the frontliners standing there and absorbing the shots, why would anyone even want to play a warrior/assassin? That would be Halo where your buddy could toss a grenade that you could follow around the corner while gunning down the people running for cover, just doesn't make for good gameplay.

When you say TK limits, maybe the mages could have a TK limits higher than the other characters... For example, limit 5 TK, for mages 10 TK (they can hurt a teammate accidentaly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

in the IGN movie i saw a mage fighting a archer, the mage killed the archer and came very close but a team mage of the mage just fired a fireball but the enemy was already dead and he killed his teammate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also agree TKs should be limited somehow.

A game I used to play called Soldier of Fortune 2 had a good system for that. Everytime you tk'ed someone you got more tk % next to your name on the scoreboard and when you hit 100% you would be autokicked and temp banned from that server.

Server admins could set in the serversettings after how many tk damage done players would hit 100%.

Im hope DM will have a similiar system.

In Day of Defeat: Source a punish/forgive sistem is used.If someone TKs you you can either punish him or forgive him.If he gets enough punishes,he's banned from the server

That's a medium system... However, to kick him must vote yes 3 times at least.. (you can hit the wrong button, or he could kill you accidentally http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

And if he is the better of your team and doesn't say sorry? I dont think that with only ONE vote we must kick a person... And i like more that system:

A person kill a teammate: Vote to all team:

1.- KICK
2.- DONT KICK

But for ALL the team http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

From what it sounds like, the game is being designed with friendly fire in (maybe even required). If FF was turned off, it would unbalance the game. The mages could just cast fireballs into a crowd of people all they want without worrying about hurting their teammates.

It might be nice you be able to turn if off for casual games, but I think having it off would cause more problems than it would solve. It would cause too much indiscriminant spamming, and make this an effective tactic.

EDIT:

I also like the punish/forgive system for TKs. People can get let off the hook if they really did it accidentally, but will make sure to be kicked if they are punished too many times. Maybe even ban them from the server for a short while (5-20 mins?).

As with pretty much every game out, FF should be an option. Personally, I like FF in a game where it's possible to spam. You end up having to attack wisely.

I like a lot of the ideas so far. I could never understand griefers.

With FF being a must, I know understand why commentators were saying the priest was the easiest class to play. . .
