I'll have to concede that I should have diagnosed this issue myself a lot sooner. Having whined on this forum that the game only starts occasionally for me, I've now located and resolved the problem.

In my particular case, I utilise Agnitum's Outpost firewall which loads wl_hook.dll when windows starts up. This dll was conflicting with R6vegas_game.exe every time I tried to start the game. I've simply renamed the dll for gaming purposes, since the dll is loaded at startup.

I'm a happy camper once again and the game now starts up without any glitches whatsoever. Anyone using outpost firewall will surely run into the same issue and may find this helpful.

If it's a program, you could use the software tools in Windows defender, or delete it from "regedit":
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
