Has anyone followed that tutorial "IN THE MANUAL" and actually got a vehicle to 'follow a path' with a guy in it?! ... because, it doesn't work for me.

The group id's are set the same, the grunt gets into the vehicle... but, then they just sit there.

I have 4 tagpoints in my path, each named correctly, i have the correct name for the path in the vehicle path id, and have the correct number set.

Any clues? ... has anyone else stumbled with this at all?! ... am i just being thick?! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Download the 180 page manual... it explains how.

I just completed it myself. Got an AI to get into a vehicle and drive around my island.

Only thing is, there are two guys and two cars, but only one works =/

I was having major problems with it as well. I could get them into the buggy, but they wouldnt see the tag points. After redoing it 30 times I finally threw a new map together plopped everything into place, did everything exactly as I had done before, and it worked. Go figure. I went back to my walkthrough map and tried to duplicate it to no avail.

My other test map has buggies, trucks, 4wds, and forklifts all following the same tag points and using the same proximity trigger. I'm still dumbfounded why I cant get them to work in the walkthrough map. Tripple checked everything. reloaded everything. Redid everything 30 times over. I dont think I'll be satified until I get it to work.

Okay... i have just checked a CryTek map, and, i have set up my vehicle (every setting) and my driver and trigger exactly like theirs! ... and, it simply doesn't work.

Can CryTek maybe confirm this? ... what's the possible problems here? ... any clues?

For anyone confused, it's very simple. here's a quick walkthrough..

Just to make it easy, only use a driver and 2vehicles.
I'll assume you know how to add vehicles and AI, just be sure to use entities. You should have 1 driver, and 2 buggies placed on your map.

1. Select the driver and his buggy by dragging a box around them and change their "groupid" to "1". Double check that their groupid has changes by selecting them one at a time, first he driver then the buggy. If it didnt change do it now.

2. select a tagpoint, name it buggy0, and place it on the map. Using "snap to terrain" helps. Clone your newly created tagpoint by selecting it and hitting ctrl-c and move this one to another location. Remember to make sure that there is a line of sight from one tagpoint to the next. Clone this tagpoint and move it to a new location. You should now have 3 tagpoints buggy0, buggy1, and buggy2.

3. Select the AI buggy, change its pathname to buggy, pathstart to 0, and pathsteps to 3.

4. Open entity> trigger and place a poximity trigger over your buggy. Select the prox trigger and scroll all the way to the bottom of the object tab. Select "OnEnter" in the input/output events. Click "pick new" and select the AI buggy.
You should now see a line connecting the proximity tigger to the AI buggy and "buggy# [Abandoned]" under OnEnter in the proximity trigger input/output. This is your new event. Select the new event, right click on it, and select GoPAth.

5. Click the AI/Physics button located under the perspective viewport. Select the Proximity trigger and scroll down to the input/output event panel. Select the event under OnEnter, and hit the send button...dem bots is smart!

If by chance it doesnt work, double heck Groupids, and path settings for the AI vehicle. If it still doesnt work try making a new map with nothing else in it. I had pigs jumping in my buggies before the AI could get to it.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i've done that, that's almost a replica of the tutorial in the Manual... i've figured out why it doesn't work though... in the buggy (or whatever you are using) properties, turn off approach player. Also, quit before you switch on AI/Physics to test it, and reload. It's the only way i've managed to get the swines moving on thier own everytime guaranteed. You can turn on approach player after you've tested it working.

OH man, Out of curiousity I loaded up that bum walkthrough map I only changes groupids on 1 vehicle. Hit send on the prox trigger, and it actually worked this time the one vehicle loaded and took off, two pigs came running from across the map, jumped into the idling buggy and drove off. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I now have two pigs doing laps around my island. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Try hitting Tools>Reload scripts. Dont know if it has anything to do with it, but thats the last thing I did before it worked.

The problem I ran into when trying to make the vehicles actually patrol was this:

If you set the vehicle's behavior to something other than Car_idle, it'll sit there forever waiting for its previous job to finish before it follows the "GoXXXX" command (chase, patrol, path).

The vehicle should be set for behavior Car_idle, it should be sent the appropriate command by the trigger, and it needs to be able to find a path to the next node (meaning no subterranean or flying(?) nodes. if your path is broken, make sure the first tagpoint on it is on the ground/surface)
