Just bought SHIII and i've a problem. So far i've only played the naval academy missions, and after a few minutes of actual gameplay the sound effects start to "rattle", and crew speech gets really low. At the same time starts a constant, very annoying background rattle, which will continue in the menu screens after the mission. After that, sometimes the game will crash when choosing a mission, and ALWAYS when i leave the game. I always get the blue screen telling me there's something wrong with my computer, and at that point i can't do nothing but reboot. When i do, i get the "system recovering from a serious error" message.
I've got the 1.4 update, and the game runs smoothly otherwise. What can be the problem? I've searched the forum but can't find a answer that helps.

Nearly the same here. But how come if it passed SH-III requirement for SC? Iâ´m using SoundMax (onboard version).
Another funny thing is that the game reads from my HD so many times while I'm playing that makes it spin like hell (no other game does it - at least not this way). Should I be afraid of it end up toasted?

Hmmm, how many RAM does your system have ?
To that sound topic :
Onboard sound chips often cause problems for some reason.
I believe it has something to do with the fact that sound chips may have a clearly defined standard but the motherboards dont have these.
Every manufacturer designs the communication between motherboard and soundchip like he pleases and some games cant get along with the way the motherboard drivers handle this.
It might cost more money but i advise to buy a soundcard from Creative or Terratec.
No commercial here but, Creative cards have nearly never any problems and give a excellent sound in connection with 5.1 or 7.1 speakers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Have you explored the drivers for the onboard sound?
http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMAX/soundMAXtechSupport.html
If you have never updated the drivers, try here, they update fairly often and could help. Then try a defrag of the hdd, if files are all over it will need some finding. Oh and the swap file will be running hard if you have less ram, 1gig would be nice.
Doktor, sound like your whole system runs into issues, can you give specs, complete with power supply.
