I started this poll to see what Heroes game seemed to hook most of us hardcore Heroes playing fans in! Feel free to discuss which of them it was and why they got you hooked! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got hooked myself at Heroes I after I saw a friend play it at his house, I couldn't believe how rich it was with detail and how much stuff you could do! So much adventure!

I got hooked with the excellent Heroes II demo map Broken Alliance. It was an excellent introduction to Heroes and it could be played with any of the six factions! Broken Alliance was a really well designed map and had two or three starting positions for even more replay. Needless to say I bought Heroes 2 almost straight away and had a ball. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It just had so much character. The campaigns were a good mix too with different choices or bonus options. I really liked the Descendants campaign (H2 expansion PoL) where you could earn an elf/grand elf alliance. They were even more useful than the dwarf/ogre alliances you could get in the good/evil original campaign. The dragon alliance (evil) was cool too, but wasn't *quite* as useful because it came later. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I really liked the alliances (certain creatures always join), banes (certain creatures always flee) and hatreds (certain creatures always attack) and I think they would make a great addition to the H5 map/campaign editor. With the additions from H3 I think it would be good if all creature alliances & banes worked for all of the type of creature except for "Savage" or Hostility Level-10 creatures (who can be considered "rebels"). And hatreds would work with all except Compliant or Hostility Level-1 creatures (who can be considered "brave and loyal followers"). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I think that that is three really simple things that can be used in official campaigns and user-created campaigns to really add to enjoyment and that "cool" factor. And perhaps alliances, banes and hatreds could also be given during a map too (and not just as a reward between maps in a campaign). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I done this before in 3DO forum last time. Did the same in Heroes Round Table forum too.
Now doing the same in this new forum.

It was Heroes 1 that got me hook onto Heroes of Might and Magic series. That was back in 1995. That time was still DOS version!!

It was a classic game during that year. I still remember I hooked on that game every day, at least 2 hours. It all thanks to my friend introduced it to me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif *bow before him*

When Heroes 2 released when I was on vacation somewhere, I saw it and bought it immediately and was very impressed with the new stuff and features they added into it. Moreover it is windows version already and got Windows 95 that year too. Speaking of it right now really makes me feel how lucky I was to own those games and enjoyed some of the best time of my life.

Never miss out any new expansions at all.

Played Heroes 3&4 and all expansion packs including WOG and Equilibrius. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I first had Heroes I, but it was a mediocre game. Heroes II got me really hooked because it took the concept on another level.

started with kings bounty on old amigas...
me and my friend played it for hours, dreaming of fighting against each others...heroes was a dream come true

I got hooked with the release of Heroes 2. Played it in hot seat with my two friends from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. (with only one lunch break http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ). After that I played also Heroes I, but not as much as Heroes 2.
In 1999 when heroes 3 came, my life changed forever http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Got hooked on heroes I, and then i went on to play kings bounty(bit of retro) then got hooked on heroes II then heroes III and then heroes IV

Vote Heroes III. But just because I had no computer before 1999, and few of my friends had computers & games till then, so I never met with any Heroes game before.

HoMM I was the one that got me hooked.
Me and my brother bought it together, and I was like 8 back then.
I loved playing it and when HoMM II the addiction became final, it was impossible to let go of the series.
HoMM III was a bit wierd for me when it came out, but after IV came out I played it for quite a while, only to return to III which was much better IMO.
Now Im playing IV again, Im trying the Death campaign, which is turning up nicely so far (though Im only at the third map).

h3...i've played h2 a little on my friend's computer before but didn't like it so much...don't know why...maybe i was too young... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

It started in 1997 or ´98 with HoMM2 at a friends place. We played alot of different games together, but it was Heroes that really got me hooked. What I enjoyed most, and still do, is the strategy and the turnbased system which is not very common in computergames.

When HoMM3 came out in ´99 I played it from 5pm ´til 3am the following morning on the first day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've played everything except king's bounty, but i have to say ir was heroes 3 that gave me the one more turn syndrome more than any other game till date. One more turn one more turn yes one more turn allnight long... ahhhh... the memories http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

At first, I saw Heroes II at my friend's place... thought it looked cool and the few times I actually played it, I wanted more of it! I finally got myself a copy of the game which I played for numerous hours; however, the game was "old" and soon heroes 3 came out, it didn't took me long to buy it and I loved it, by then I had also managed to get my hands on a copy of Heroes 1 and King's Bounty in order to play the games which led to my favorite game.

When heroes 4 came out, I wasn't so enthousiast, it seemed so different(and not necessarly on the good side) of heroes 3 which was now the best game of the serie for me. I took a break and when I heard H5 had a release date, I figured it was time for me to play heroes 4 a bit and this is where I am.

I remember that one of the first games that i got from my friends, when i got my first PC, was HoMM2... Didn't understand it fully, although my neighbour showed me how to play. Seemed too complicated for me. He was a crapy player i guess, because the only thing i remebered from his lessons is 32167. Just when HoMM3 appeared, bought the game and was not very much into it. When i realised what a game is collecting dust at the shelf, the CD was long time gone. My brother lended it to a friend of his and this mofo didn't return it afterall. Got another one and never stopped playing HoMM3 since then... bought a special book about the game, all the campaigns passed at 200%... Armageddon's blade, Shadow of Death too. I have SOD disk in cd-rom in my notebook almost all the time. When HoMM4 appeared, i was totally dissapointed, not a single one of my friends played HoMM4 too... So when all HoMM3 was gone through i had no choice but to get HoMM2...

Voted for HoMM2, because it was the first HoMM series that i saw and played.

I played Heroes I first, the Mac version emulated on an Amiga using Fusion. I happened across an old copy of King's Bounty a while later, and not realizing the heritage, when I played it my first thought was "hey, this is like a primitive version of HOMM...."

I started with Heroes 1. I had never even heard of King's Bounty until reading about it on Celestial Heavens.

If it weren't for boredom and pure luck, I probably never would have found my first Heroes game and might never have played any. I was bored and wanted a new game to play, so I went to the software store to see what was there. After like a 1/2 hour of not seeing anything interesting, I was all set to leave when I saw the HOMM1 box on the shelf. It took just seconds of looking at the back of the box to tell me I wanted this game.

The rest is history as I've been in love with the series ever since. Yes, including HOMM4. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

HoMM 2 here. Didn't know about the series before.

A friend had the game and I loved it from start just by watching him play. We took on some adventures together. In those early days before I had learned everything it was very cool just to discover different types of creatures and talk about how to take on others and stuff. It wasn't all about numbers for me then, more like ~wow these creatures are really strong~ when you learned by fighting for example some black dragons for your first time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A long time later I bought the game and it was just as great as before. I also tried the demo before and that was as mentioned above a great map! Still today one of my best fights... in a demo!

With a very good strategy system and storyline and a rich and unique world to discover it wasn't hard to get hooked.

Turn-based games are so much more about strategy than realtime games since speed is important in those games. It feels so much better when you win a turn-based game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When HoMM 3 showed up it was improved just in the way I wanted and I still play that game a lot! The best game in the series I think.

HoMM 4 on the other hand... a LOT of stuff in that game I don't like. Enough for me not to buy it. I haven't even played it through but maybe I will later. I brought it up again awhile ago but something stopped me from continuing again. I really dislike the fighting system and it's so hard to keep playing when every fight is a pain... It'll take some time for me to get used to... Feels like a game made in a rush after the success of number 3.

I really look forward to HoMM 5 and I have high hopes for it, I think it'll be a masterpiece!... but it'll take some serious work to beat HoMM 3 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think it was the 2nd one, why do you ask?

04-10-2005, 03:26 PM
Well for me it was Heroes 1. Played it from a demo disk and got hooked. Then it led to HOMM 2,3 and 4.
At the time that I was into HOMM 2, I showed the game to one of my friends who only played consoles (Playstation at the time). When I showed him the game, he then said "****it why don't they have those kind of games on consoles!". He then went on to purchase a new computer and a copy of Heroes 2. I then lent him Heroes I so he could play it, and he also really got into Heroes 3. Although he didn't like Heroes 4 much.

Got into the act since Homm1, I especially love the cute purple little dragon and the arrmageddon spell!

04-11-2005, 12:34 AM
Played 20h/week from start HoMM I. With HOMMIV i started cautiously, because it was so buggy (still is), but i love it.
At IV start i played III same time awhile, but now i play only IV+equilibris.

04-11-2005, 02:18 AM
HOMM II here. In the begining it was a week when me and friend of mine were playing 24/7 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It really hooked. I almost skipped HOMM III, but again I was hooked by HOMM IV, and especially by campaigns.

04-11-2005, 04:40 AM
Kings Bounty on the Mega Drive that got me, then bought a PC and purchased HOMM1, 2, 3 and lastly 4(unfortunately 4)all excluding HOMM4 with expansions, Kings Bounty was great, the others slowly improved the series, HOMM3 was the pinnicle and well lets not say too much about HOMM4 I dont want to keep being reminded I as well as many others wasted their hard earned money on it.

04-11-2005, 06:13 AM
For me it was HOMM2
I came over to a friends house and he showed me the game. After a few days I beat him to easy and he didnt wanna play me nomore... then I got the game and played a little myself.

Then I got HOMM1 etc then 3 got out and well.. I got it all now... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Heroes II
I was looking for deversion of the mind one evening, downloaded a one hour demo of Heroes II and before I knew it 60 minutes were gone! Rushed to get my creditcard and bought the game. I remember being beaten several times in the tutorial http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

A demo of HOMM-1 introduced me to the magical world of Heroes.
But after a week i've purchased HOMM-2, which just was on shelves, and i was really hooked with.
