Is a very good question.

One of the sites I visit regularly for release dates is www.tothegame.com (http://www.tothegame.com) It lists R6:Vegas PC as having a Q4 2006 release date.

Not proof by any means yet, but we'll see.

You'll have to ask Ubisoft why they have 2 versions of a press release.

Ubisoft themselfs don't report anything about PC version. But when another site posts a press release given by Ubisoft they talk about PC version.

So is Ubisoft just pushing the 360 version on us like in GRAW & keeping the PC version in the shadows or not?
Anyways, I'm sure some official can clear this little mix up when the time is right.

Stated a million times before, we have very little to go on.

You've never heard of that term before? I doubt the industry fancies it, but that's what a lot of gamers call them.

Bullshot: an image obviously doctored to appear more impressive and passed off as a screenshot of a game when still in an early development phase.

Generally speaking, these are the shots that look so very cool, then you get the game and play it on uber-hardware with maxed out settings you wonder why it doesn't look as good as those "screenshots" they sold you on months ago.

Looks like a poorly done version of SWAT 4.

Well, I guess that confirms it. NO response from RSE about patches and updates for lockdown, and now lame releases scheduled only for the console.

Guess I am done playing Rainbowsix for the next 5 years/forever...

Everything is so shiny and wet looking. Someone needs to learn to use the "glow effect" better to actaully give it meaningful "effect." Even the backpack looks wet.

So, are we down to a three man team now? Is this their way of weening everyone off of the "team" concept. Next version you'll have one partner, followed by that will be you alone.

Graphically, I guess it looks good, but sort of like all these next gen console games. They're all starting to look the same.

Maybe RSE will do something for the PC(not holding out hope though). Ubi Montreal is a fine game studio, but I don't think they "get it," when it comes to R6. They're just making a game with the R6 tag and theme on it. Could be a fine action game, but it's not the same as what we were use to.

Did RSE do the console LD? I know they did the port to PC.

deosl
03-06-2006, 01:17 PM
RSE did PS2 & PC version of Lockdown while Montreal did Xbox.
It looks like R6 will follow the same path as GRAW, 4 man squad vs the whole world.

In terms of who is doing the PC version I'm unsure. It looks like Vegas is using Unreal 3 engine, but RSE has no experience with Unreal engine what so ever to my knowledge. Mainly in-house engine in their games.

Which leaves me to belive Montreal will do both?
Who knows, maybe RSE read "unreal 3 for dummies"? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

I don't want to know about those 'next-gen' graphics! I just want a serious and mature game that doesn't take me for an attarded kid!

By the way, this 'next-gen' vocabulary is overused! The Xbox 360 is in store RIGHT NOW and they still call it 'next-gen'! Those marketing weirdos really take us for idiots!

Frankly, I really don't have a problem with the game taking place in one location. So long as the next one isn't Rainbow Six: NY, or Rainbow Six: Miami.... If there's an expansion pack for the game that is based around a different city outside the US but simply on the same engine, I see no problem with it at all.

If they're going for an involved story, that's a logical choice to make and really... it doesn't affect that much in a CQB game anyways. Most everything involving R6 should be INSIDE buildings anyways, so does it really matter what city this warehouse or that casino is in? I just sincerely hope they do away with the horrendous "running through city streets filled with terrorists" from Lockdown. Terrorists taking over one building or complex is believable. Terrorists taking over several city blocks is not. Most of the situations in Lockdown are so large scale that they're things an army would have handled, not a small team insertion. They really need to get away from that 'hundreds of enemies' syndrome... more is NOT better. Go back to the 10-20 max and just have them act more intelligently.

The last thing I ever wanted R6 single player to be was a shooting gallery.

Well, restricting the story to one location is just another departure of the 'Tom Clancy' trademark.

Take the movie franchises 'James Bond' or 'Mission impossible'. When you see one of these movies, you EXPECT to take a trip around the globe.

Most, if not all of Clancy's books have an international feel in it, as do have most books and movies focused on political and spy plots. Visiting exotic locations around the globe with a secret spy or a counter-terrorism unit is sort of taken for granted in a Tom Clancy book/game.

And the 'inside building' aspect you have mentionned should not prevent any attempt at exploring different locations. Many past R6 levels were based on real world locations and buildings, like the first mission of Athena Sword (Sforza Castle) or Iron Wrath (St. Kliment Ohridski University) for instance. And R6 levels must not be all restricted to insides. For instance, the outside real world location of Dubrovnik in AS was a 'must', to say the least...

But don't get me wrong, it's not so 'bad' when you consider this 'one location' aspect alone. The problem is that R6, with each new iteration, is more and more departing from Clancy's original work.

Indeed, who could tell that RSL is a Clancy game if you'd get rid of the 'Rainbow Six' words in the title?

It's interesting to note that some of the briefings are given by characters in the original novel - Alaistair Stanley (Rainbow 5) and Bill Tarmey, no less. Strange, as the previous games have never bothered to include these characters, who are central to the original novel. A step away from the Rainbow gameplay, a step towards the Rainbow lore? That said, the 'briefings' in Lockdown were terrible and made very poor use of the characters available. It may have been that due to the lacking nature of the gameplay, they felt they had to reinforce it with familiar (and authentic) R6 characters.

Other than that, no, it isn't a game worthy of the R6 name, nor should it be placed in anywhere near the same league as the others.

So, let me take stock and pull info from various threads...

1. There will be an RB6-5 for PC. This is a fact as stated by Geiger AND Goliath.

2. There will be a SEPERATE PC-SPECIFIC Design team for the PC version of RB6-5. This is a fact as stated by Geiger.

3. The possibility exists, as theorized by DeosL, that the PC version of RB6-5 will use the UNREAL 3 ENGINE. The is a THEORY, not a fact.
