Fishing boats and sampans, shoot them or not shoot them or does it even matter?
Reason I ask is that I generally consider those civilian vessels and not really of commercial sinking value. Am I off track on that thought?
I have also seemed to notice that if sink a sampan for fishing vessel I seem to attract a lot of unwelcome company into the area later on, planes, sub chasers, destroyers, and even medium gun boats. Does sinking them throw up a flag of ( http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif Hey, sub over here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif)? Traveling in sight of land also seems to generate some company as well.
I am running TMOTW if that makes a difference.

In the real war, sampans were used to transport military supplies and were fair targets. Fishing boats? Your call there, although a lot of patrol craft were disguised as fishing trawlers. The carriers in the Doolittle Raid were spotted by one of those. They sunk it, but had to launch the B-25s early as it had gotten off a radio message.
The assumption in the game, MODDED or stock is that the all have radios and if they spot you, will call in their position. That is why you get all the unwelcome company. If you are spotted by a land unit the same applies.

I've seen some awesome secondary explosions from the sampans and fishing boats... Maybe they were carrying explosive fish?...

I've seen some of the larger fishing boats with 25mm AAA guns mounted on top of the wheel house.
I sink any enemy vessel, civilian or not.

Blow off sails, light the tips on fire like bday candles...all sorts of fun. Try ramming them, I've not managed to sink one yet...nearly push one over though.

I used to feel guilty sinking sampans, and considered not bothering, but the first time one blew up like a fireworks factory I didn`t feel guilty anymore.

So....do I shoot sapans. Your damm rights, there great to test out your guns on. I even shot life rafts!!! Whats really funny, is they blow up but never sink. They keep pattling away. It gives you credit for them too. Some sapans are armed. I got a nasty suprise when one of those sapans started shoting back. I blew him right out of the water! I don't know about every one, but my SH4 came with a DVD about the WW 2 Silent Service. Aprently they had underestricted submarine warfare. They pretty much where allowed to attack anything with a meat ball flag. They shoulded a clip of how they delt with sapans. They boarded them and searched. If they found weapons ect, they sank it.

I most apriciate all the responses, it is great information. I have been dodging Fishing Boats and Sampans as a rule so's not to tip of a sub is in the area, maybe that's taking RP to an extream. Always wonder if shipping is re-routed after an attack is broadcast.
I may though have to re-think my stratagy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
