PS3 getting DVR capability (http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/08/sony-ps3-gettin.html)

Let's assume that you use the PS3 for nothing other than a DVR. How much could you really store on a 80GB hard drive? This assumes that you have the larger hard drive. This also assumes that you don't have any downloaded games, demos, videos, or anything else.

It'll be interesting to see this in action. I figured either Microsoft or Sony would announce something like this. For people that don't own a DVR this could be a handy option. I can see both companies doing this down the road.

Hopefully they'll allow you to use external hard drives with this feature. Otherwise, it could really be a problem for people that record a lot. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Sony officially says.

One thing Sony doesn't seem to advertise too loudly is the ease with which an end user can replace the hard drive. The PS3's manual outlines the process, as does this thread from the Playstation forums (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3media&thread.id=32840).

That said, even a 250GB hard drive like this one from Samsung (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136123) (which I believe is PS3 compatible) would get filled up pretty darned fast. I'll restate once more what thousands of other PS3 owners have already said, though: these features are cool and all, but when are you going to come out with more games?

I could be wrong here, but as far as i understand it, If you have a Media center PC and a 360 connected to it, You can use the 360 to transfer Video Data to your PC just like a DVR. I don't know how it works, but i seem to remember M$ talking about it during the release buildup.
My cable Provider Supplies a 20GB HD tuner/DVR Between my wife and i we record a lot of shows. We never have filled it up. Even when we just record HD signals.
I think M$ is more concerned with trying to do is create a download media delivery system that they could eventually deliver everything people want media wise.
