Hi fellow submariners,

I really love this game.

The patrols can get a bit repetitive but every so often you run into a nice meaty convoy.

It's 4.30 am and i have just finished the most exciting session with this game so far.

A miracle occured - I stumbled across a convoy, moving slow with no escort and in calm weather - Heaven.

I only had 4 torpedoes so i used them to sink 3 ships and sank another 5 with my trusty deck gun. Together with my 3 ships i sank earlier in the mission - gave a grand total of 11 ships and just under 54,000 tonnage sunk. The best i have done yet!

Maybe this is not good compared to some of you aces but i think i at least deserve a bunch of flowers from Hitler or something.

How well have you guys done?

That's excellent, and you should cherish that moment. So far, I've managed to intercept 10 convoys from knowing where to look for them, and found 2 more that I couldn't or didn't intercept (out of torps on one, weather was too bad on another). Out of the 12 convoys I've found, only once was it calm enough to use the deck gun. When that happens, though, you can rack up a hell of a score.

Very nice =)

anything over 50,000 tons is something to be happy about.

My record is 17. would have been 18 but star shots dont do enough damage =)

After 4 patrols my best record so far has been 6. I've come across 2 convoys so far but have always been in a position of disatvangage. The first one I only have a few torpedoes left anyway, and the second I managed to loose it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif .
Oh well, better luck next time.

My best so far has been 6 ships sunk in one patrol, all lone merchants. Oddly enough that includes 1 tugboat. What is a tug boat doing 200 km north of the U.K.?

I sank 7 ships which included a troop transport after 2 passes on a convoy at grid AM with a type IXC.

With all but 2 boxes ticked Free Camera and the other one!

I scored 4 on my 1st patrol out of Kiel, my patrol area as off the NW coast of Ireland. On my way round the North of Scotland I sunk a Trawaler 98ton, then in my PA I sunk a C2 6200ton. On the way back to base I sunk another C2 6300ton and not long after I got a Costal 2300ton!

4 for 14,898 , all were night jobs and I only use 3 torps! I sunk the Trawler with my deck gun manually and the 1st C2 I fired 3 torps at it, 1 hit 1 dud and the other missed I sunk it with the Deck Gun. The 2nd C2 I got with my deck gun as I did with the Costal.

I got a promotion and 2 clasps and 2 war badges to hand out to my crew! I tried to hand out the promotion but it think your men have to have top ratings as in 400/400 mine had between 300-350/400.

The 2 clasps went ok but the 2 war badge would not go? and later when I was on my 2nd partol and clciked on the guys that got the 2 clasps they didn't show up in there profiles.

My best score in a single sitting was five ships to one fish. I encountered a convoy which, amongst other things, consisted of about five or six small tankers flanking a cargo ship. I found the cargo ship was carrying ammunition after I put a single fish into it and it dramatically exploded...and took four of the tankers with it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

I was not happy after I found I didn't get any credit for the tankers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

My best would have been 7 but on my way back to port, I was intercepted by a warship and It blew me out of the water. **** Radar! Funny thing is that right after I was sunk I was like "oh my god! I forgot about decoys! ARGH!

hmm thats one big explosion.

Ive heard of close aboard torpedo explosions sinking ships but never a ship exploding and sinking another.

they had to be in close range of each other.

once the cargo ship blew did the tankers try and go around it then get blown up?

This game has suprised me so many times with how the world is modeled and things can hurt each other. I have ot belive you. lol. hell I wouldnt belive it even if it happened to me

Best I've done is 11, but it was 89k tons. I doubt I will repeat that for a very long time. I did this by stumbling onto a convoy, sinking the two escort destroyers with torpedoes and then sinking the largest ships in the convoy first. Got 2 ocean liners and several T3's and C3's. Got a few troop transports too and then a couple lesser ships before I was all out of everything. BTW the flak gun is useless against coastal merchants, found that out on that mission http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif.

hmm the fact that you sunk the escorts so easily, makes me very concerned! I have not run into a convoy or a DD yet (Dec 1939 patrol), but it is seemingly too easy to sink escorts.....they should be almost impossible to sink (because of their manuvering around the convoy that is). What gives???

I got 11 ships off the coast of Gibralter, a smallish convoy with no escourts! I went to down on those ships, but i was only given 30,000 tons for em.

19 ships, 2 planes. Now, 4 of those ships were fishing boats and trawlers that were felled by my flak gun, but still...

My record is 14 on my 3rd patrol. Everything started out well enough, i snuk into Loch Ewe on November 1st, it was only guarded by two armed trawlers and the coastal guns. Then at 22:22 four torpedoes plowed to the battleship Nelson's starboard side. It keeled over on its side and sank to the bottom, got a few pics of it. Anyway, i proceed out of Loch Ewe to find both the armed trawlers had run into shore... idiots... So i went to grid AM north of Ireland next and there i did some real hunting. Stumbled onto a convoy, managed to go under a few ships and got right in the middle of it. Sunk a T2 Tanker and a C2 Cargo and damaged another C2 heavily before being forced down by a destroyer. Shook him off and he left. Then i surfaced and finished off the damaged C2 with my deck gun. Just as i secured everything here comes a destroyer from the convoy, so down i go again and sneak away (this is the first convoy ive ever come across). Then i prey on coastal cargo ships and the occaisonal C2 with my deck gun and torpedoes (the weather was good) and when i had only 2 forward torpedoes, 2 stern ones, and scarce deck gun ammunition i proceed to grid BF where i was supposed to patrol in the first place. The weather turned against me as soon as i turned south. Heavy fog, rain, and 15 meters per second winds for the next few days. Never saw a merchant but got jumped at close range by a destroyer, that was close. Luckily bad visibility works both ways so i got away without a scratch. Patrolled my grid for 24 hours and that was that. Pretty anti-climatic. 13 merchants sunk for 47,291 tons, and the Nelson sunk for 36,000 tons. Grand total 83,291. Not bad for the 3rd patrol huh? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Btw, sorry about that, im just so proud of myself at the moment.

Destroyers are small ships, Finch. Yes, they can be hard to hit sometimes. If a DD isn't actively hunting you, I've seen two or three different behaviors from them when escorting a convoy. Sometimes they'll move at around 12-14 knots, crisscrossing back and forth in front of the convoy. In that case they're looking for subs in the convoy's path, hoping to drive any off if they are there. Sometimes they'll circle around, or lie in wait until the convoy catches up. That seems to be trying to catch you off guard, because my sonar guys can't tell the difference between a warship and a merchant contact until it speeds up. The third behavior is they fall in at the front of the middle row of the convoy, leading it by about 1000 meters or so, going the exact same heading and speed. Since most convoys are moving at 5-7 knots, that makes them an easy target if you find one in that state. I've sunk several like that. If you hit them, they sink fast.

My Record is 13 ships for 83,782 tons.(100% cargo and fuel ships)

With 76% realism.

My average is 6.85 ships per patrol
Average tons 31,567 tons per patrol

Pretty dammn realistic!!

ps thats all valuable cargo http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I dont shoot destroyers ect cept in rare circumstances. Only warships are 1 pt boat and a Destroyer in those stats.

17... 1 Hunt I destroyer and 16 merchant ships... the only remaining from the convoy were 3 untouched coastal merchants and one coastal merchant on fire.

Back in summer of 1941, when things were still relatively easy, I got 14 merchants for about 75,000 GRT on 92% realism, everything on except external free camera. I'm in summer of 1942 now and things are starting to get a little rough... the hunter seems to be slowly becoming the hunted. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I got 16 for a cool 90,000 + tons.

3 coastals, 3 small merchants, 7 C2s, and 3 T2 tankers.

Nailed 2 of the c2s and a crippled the third with my first salvo all on my own TDC in my 14 torp VIIB. Coulda prolly gotten another C2 and a coastal had I not had 2 dud torpedoes from firing too close.

I got 11 on my first patrol out with the VIIB and those were just random ships on the way to the objective. A few were deck gun but most were torpedoes. 44k for that patrol and not a bad way to start a career.

My first try was 12 ships at about 67000 tons (no escort though). Could have been more if it wasn't for duds hehe...had no ammo left for any weapon by the time I was finished http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif This game is absolutely brilliant in every aspect http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Has anyone noticed that the actions of escorts seems to be directly dependant upon where the convoy is? I've noticed escorts around the AL and AM grid squares tend to zigzag and circle a lot whereas escorts around the BC and BD grid squares tend to sail in a straight line.

It would appear as though the AI is intelligent enough to realize there are far fewer subs in BC and BD than at AL and AM.

This seems to make a major case for the long-range IX subs, certainly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

On what realism settings? Unless the realism setting is high kills count for shinola.

My best is 1 destroyer with no shots fire on my part. And then 4 merchants and 2 more destroyers.

My spotter yelled out warship spotted went to periscope depth locked on the ship looked at it and was wondering why it was burning. And then it just sunk and i got credit for it

Anyone else find the stationary C3s in the atlantic

My stats come nowhere near any of your totals.

At 68% realism my best to date is 4 ships on patrol 12. One coastal freighter, and two C2 merchants, plus one destroyer.

I was having some trouble w/my shooting before however (torps) and have not come across a convoy yet, but have not really been in the heavy shipping lanes that carried convoys.

That will be remedied soon as I have just gotten transferred to Brest. My crew is becoming more and more qualified though. Many have been with me for all 12 patrols. They take much longer to wear down on patrol, and with numerous watch qual'd sailors I get really good sightings.
