Hello everyone.
I am not very experienced with the conf.ino file. I have always found the options within the game interface itself quite enough. However, I once read in a very old thread that some quite interesting things were possible with the conf.ini file.
I am currently trying the Bf110 offline campaign mode. However I am finding it unsurvivable because AAA in the game is too uber. How do I turn its skill level down for the duration of the campaign?
Also, I am noticing that the only missions the bf110 is given are the quickly monotonous airfield raids. I heard once that there is a way to change an airoplane's 'class' which enables it to be given other tasks. For example the campaign would then give the 110 bomber intercept and escort missions too. How is this done?
Also, there is a way to adjust the number of random flights that DGen generates per mission?
Better still... is there a comprehensive v4.02 list of conf.ini settings? Most aren't already included in the file, you have to type them in manually, so unless you are 'in the know' you have no way of knowing that those options are possible!
Thank you if anyone can help.

First of all are you running the combined install, I think flak modification will only occur in the combined install (PF-AEP-FB)
Place the following in your Confi ini file
{Must be word for word)
[DGen]
MaxFLAK=5 (This should lower flak rate)
AirIntensity=High (This should increase random flights)
I dont know how to alter the ground attack missions, I think the BF110G is coded to be ground attack specefic if you are playing the 110 campaign that comes with AEP.
In BOE there is a campaign for BF110 interceptor against USAAF.
For further info on Confini & Dgen go to airwarfare site, there is an IL2 community manual there that explains quite alot
There is a program called Sturmovik Stab that alows you to adjust confi ini settings without going into the file.
You also have Paul Lowengrins DCG, a very powerful alternative to DGEN that alows you to set up your plane options as you see fit
Hope this helps

thanks for the reply.
Yes it is the merged install.
One question though... what does MaxFLAK=5 mean?
What would happen if I set it to MaxFLAK=1 for example?

I think the flak will drop right away. From memory it ranges in scale from 10 which is normal to 0 nothing.

Exactly which conf file is this placed into? The one in the main folder or the ones in the DGen folder? (I have 4 conf files in my DGen folder.)

Any news on how to change it so that the campaigns will allow the Bf110 to do fighter missions too? I know it has been discussed, but a long time ago.
By the way I tried MaxFLAK=5. It does reduce the amount of flak guns, but unfortunately this was not what i wanted. I don't have a problem with the number of guns, only with their uber accuracy. They are so accurate that even one gun is too dangerous to approach. I won't do it.

Try this under dgen heading in confini file
CampaignDifficulty=Easy
I cant help you on getting 110 to do fighter missions, I dont know how to alter those settings. (not with dgen anyway)

You really should download IL-2 Stab. It has a user-friendly interface that not only lets you adjust things simply, it even explains what your change will do!

Here is my DGen section with explanations:
[DGen]
;all maps (FB/AEP and PF)
CampaignAI=Normal ; Easy, Normal, Hard
MissionDistance=50 ; between 0 and 300km. (on PF maps, only shortens distance on carrier missions)
GroundIntensity=Medium ; Low, Medium, High
AirIntensity=High ; Low, Medium, High (PF maps = controls random flights, on AEP maps = general intensity)
SlowFire=95.0 ; Ship-flak rate. between 0.5 and 100.0 (1=historic, default=5.1)
PromotionRate=30 ; between 0 and 100 (default is 1, twice as slow=0.5)
UseParkedPlanes=1
HistoricalRanks=1
;NoBadWeather
;NoAirfieldHighlight
;FB/AEP maps only
CampaignMissions=Normal ; Easy, Normal, Hard
CampaignLength=Short ; VeryShort, Short, Medium, Long, VeryLong (VeryLong is default)
RandomFlights=6 ; flights unconnected with your mission
MaxBomberSkill=2 ; between 0 and 3 (affects gunners AND bomb accuracy)
MaxFLAK=20 ; between 0 and 100. Default=10 (en route only; does not affect target area)
;NoActiveFrontline ; 'Battle over Europe' only. Removes units active on frontline.
;Pacific Fighters maps only
OperationVictory=100
OperationDefeat=-100
WarVictory=1000
WarDefeat=-1000
;UseParachutes ; Japanese have chutes from start of war
A semi colon ( ; ) blocks the command or notes after it, so they are not executed by FB.
Also, I would query whether any of these settings are utilised by DCG if you have used the 'replace DGen' mode. I think in this case the DCG DGen writes its own settings directly into the mission file based on the DCG mission/campaign ini files (which in turn are based on the settings in the DCG GUI).
Note that some of the parameter descriptions I have may be inaccurate. I collected these over a long period of time from different sources, so a) the source may have been wrong and b) I may have misinterpreted the source because the usage wasn't always clearly given.

As above, all of these options are easily selectable with a mouse-click if you sownload and and install Il-2 Stab. However, as Antifreeze has done is hardly difficult either.
