Is it possible to sink a Yamato battleship? I fired several torpilos (up to 6) and nothing happens, not a single spark.

Yes it is!

Here's my account from the first one I sunk on the open sea (not tendered in port):

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...251072647#3251072647 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6421019045/m/3251072647?r=3251072647#3251072647)

For me, it took all six from the forward tubes to cripple it (engines stopped, but not sunk). It then took another three or four from the rear tubes to finish her.

Yamato and her sister ship Musashi were the largest naval ships in history to that point.
Yamato took 10 torpedo hits and 7 bomb hits before a magazine exploded and took it down. Musashi required 17 bomb hits and 19 torpedo hits to sink. No, those are not typo's. Thats what it takes to sink 70,000 tons of well constructed battleship. So yes you can sink it, but don't be surprised if you use up half of stock of torpedo's doing it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I managed to sink a Yamato with only 5 torpedoes

But then again, it's 70,000 tons. You might expend your whole load on a convoy and not sink 50,000 tons at times, so is it worth it to put half into a Yamato? Yes and more!

Summer 1942; it took me 16 torpedoes and about 10 hits to bring her down. I fired by bow torpedoes from 1100 yards with an angle on the bow of about 60 degrees. She took 4 hits and a dude across the whole length of the ship without blinking. Then I fired off the stern torpedoes at a little under 1500 at an angle on the bow of about 110 degrees. The stern spread scored two hits and at least one dude, but that still did not stop her.

I evaded the escorts and did another end run (the group was moving at 12 knots). Once back in position I fired all six bow torpedoes in a wide spread at under 800 yards and an angle on the bow of about 90. Four hit before I got the target destroyed message.

Before going deep I unloaded the stern tubes at a light cruiser about 1800 yards off. I scored a hit and a dude but did not sink it.

Hello

Thanks for your replys
At the time I posted the question I was both new in the game and in the Forum. I`m not playing the game often, only once a week, so I still need experience to play it. In the mean time I managed to destroy two Yamatos, the first in a TF (it took 9 torp to sink) the seccond in Kobe port (10 torp). I did not manadeg to take screenshots. Is there on the forum any information about how to take screenshots? Some other questions I couldn`t still find myself answers are:
1. Do I always have to be surfaced to report convoys and, more impotant (because of the danger to be targeted and destroyed), to report enemy TF`s?
2. Are some destroyed ships better "quoted" then others in order to recieve medals and promotions?
3. Is luck the only thing you need in this game to watch or even to be involved in some historical battles or you need sommthing more than luck I miss? Even in the case the HQ informed me about some naval operations days before they started I didn`t cach none of them (Midway, Solomon, Gauadalcanal etc)

Sorry for my English, it`s not may native language. I want you all guys to thank, you`re doing a great job!!! I realy mean it. The game and the forum helped me not only to fulfill a dream from my childhood (after reading Jules Verne books I allways dreamed about beeyng some day in a sub) but also enlarged my knowledge about WW II

Nothing happens good or bad reporting convoys. It's possible they can pick up your transmission or so I've heard, so may come to you, so why bother.

Ships give points which effects the amount of medals and promotions. There use to be a list around here with the amount of each.

You can partake of most historical battles. Stock does a poor job rendering most correctly, but I think most exist, they just may not show up at the right place or date, nor will they have the right amount of ships, ect. You may want to add the RSRD mod that reworks all the traffic layers so all the battles take place historically correct with the correct ships. I've been in every major battle and many smaller ones. Sometimes you find them, sometimes you don't, but once you learn the game, they're usually easy to find. RSRD is the best way to go for proper battles. You can even watch surface fleets battle it out why you join in.

I just got involved in the battle of Midway and found the Yamato group. This is RSRD...That be the Yamato dead...

The big Y is often in Truk or going and coming from Japan. That's where I found it last time.
24 Dec. 43, 1545 hours 150 48' east 855' south.

Just look at the SS above it's right there at that time.

I found it in the Karimata Straits early in the war, early '42.

RFB 2.0 has either a war patrol or quick mission that has the yamato in port, ripe for the pickens.

i think it took me 9 or 10 torps to sink her.
